1 On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there;	1 Il terzo giorno, in Cana della Galilea si celebrò un festino di nozze, e la madre di Gesù si trovava là.
2 Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples.	2 Alle nozze fu invitato anche Gesù con i suoi discepoli.
3 When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."	3 Ed essendo venuto a mancare il vino, la madre di Gesù gli dice: «Non hanno più vino».
4 And Jesus said to her, "O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come."	4 Gesù le rispose: «Che vuoi, o donna? La mia ora non è ancora venuta».
5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."	5 La madre di lui dice ai servi: «Fate qualunque cosa vi dirà».
6 Now six stone jars were standing there, for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.	6 C’erano là sei giare di pietra, preparate per l’abluzione dei Giudei, ciascuna della capacità di due o tre misure.
7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim.	7 Gesù dice ai servi: «Riempite d’acqua le giare». E le riempiono fino all’orlo.
8 He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the steward of the feast." So they took it.	8 «Attingete adesso — dice oro — e portatene al capo della mensa». E gliene portarono.
9 When the steward of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward of the feast called the bridegroom	9 Il capo della mensa, dopo aver gustato l’acqua diventata vino, — egli non ne conosceva la provenienza, ma i servi che avevano attinto l’acqua lo sapevano — chiama lo sposo
10 and said to him, "Every man serves the good wine first; and when men have drunk freely, then the poor wine; but you have kept the good wine until now."	10 e gli dice: «Tutti servono prima il vino buono e il meno buono quando si è già brilli; tu hai tenuto da parte fino ad ora il vino buono!»
11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him.	11 Così Gesù, in Cana della Galilea, cominciò a fare miracoli; e manifestò la sua gloria, e i suoi discepoli credettero in lui.
12 After this he went down to Caperna-um, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples; and there they stayed for a few days.	12 Dopo di ciò, scese a Cafarnao con sua madre, i suoi fratelli e i suoi discepoli, e vi fermarono pochi giorni soltanto.
13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	13 La Pasqua dei Giudei era prossima e Gesù salì a Gerusalemme.
14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers at their business.	14 E trovò nel tempio i mercanti di buoi, di pecore e di colombe, e i cambiavalute seduti al loro banco.
15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all, with the sheep and oxen, out of the temple; and he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables.	15 Fatto un flagello di corde Gesù li cacciò tutti dal tempio, con le pecore e i buoi; disperse la moneta dei cambiavalute e ne rovesciò i banchi,
16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; you shall not make my Father's house a house of trade."	16 e ai venditori di colombe disse: «Portate via di qui questa roba; smettetela di fare della casa del Padre mio una casa di traffico».
17 His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for thy house will consume me."	17 I suoi discepoli si ricordarono che sta scritto: Lo zelo della tua casa mi divorerà.
18 The Jews then said to him, "What sign have you to show us for doing this?"	18 Allora i Giudei intervennero e gli dissero: «Che miracolo ci fai vedere per agire così?»
19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."	19 Gesù rispose: «Distruggete questo tempio e in tre giorni lo farò risorgere».
20 The Jews then said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?"	20 I Giudei dissero: «Questo tempio fu costruito in quarantasei anni e tu lo farai risorgere in tre giorni?»
21 But he spoke of the temple of his body.	21 Egli, però, parlava del tempio del suo corpo.
22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.	22 Quando, dunque, Gesù risuscitò dai morti, i suoi discepoli si ricordarono che aveva detto questo e credettero alla Scrittura e a ciò che aveva detto Gesù.
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs which he did;	23 Mentre egli era a Gerusalemme per la festa di Pasqua, molti credettero nel suo nome, vedendo i miracoli che egli faceva.
24 but Jesus did not trust himself to them,	24 Ma Gesù non si fidava di loro, perché egli conosceva tutti
25 because he knew all men and needed no one to bear witness of man; for he himself knew what was in man.	25 e non aveva bisogno che altri gli desse testimonianza sull’uomo; egli, difatti, sapeva che cosa c’era nell’uomo.
