John 16

1 "I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away.	1 V'ho detto questo affinchè non vi scandalizziate.
2 They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.	2 Vi cacceranno dalle sinagoghe, anzi è per venire l'ora in cui chi vi uccide crederà di onorare Dio.
3 And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me.	3 E cosi vi tratteranno perchè non han conosciuto nè il Padre ne me.
4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them. "I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.	4 Ma questo ve l'ho detto, affinchè quando avverrà vi rammentiate che ve n'ho parlato.
5 But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'	5 E non vi dissi queste cose da principio, perchè io ero con voi; ma ora vo a colui che mi ha mandato e nessuno di voi mi domanda:
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.	6 Dove vai? Invece perchè vi ho dette queste cose, la tristezza vi ha riempito il cuore.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.	7 Ma io vi dico il vero: è meglio per voi che me ne vada; perchè se io non me ne vado, non verrà a voi il Consolatore: e se me ne vado, lo manderò a voi.
8 And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:	8 E, venendo, egli convincerà il mondo riguardo al peccato, alla giustizia e al giudizio.
9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;	9 Al peccato, per non aver creduto in me;
10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more;	10 alla giustizia, perchè io vo al Padre e non mi vedrete più;
11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.	11 al giudizio, perchè il principe di questo mondo è già giudicato.
12 "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.	12 Molte cose avrei ancora da dirvi; ma per ora non ne siete capaci.
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.	13 Quando però sia venuto quello Spirito di verità, egli vi ammaestrerà in ogni vero; chè non vi parlerà da se stesso, ma dirà tutto quello che avrà udito e v'annunzierà l'avvenire.
14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.	14 Egli mi glorificherà, perchè riceverà del mio e ve lo annunzierà.
15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.	15 Tutto quello che ha il Padre è mio; per questo ho detto che riceverà del mio e ve lo annunzierà.
16 "A little while, and you will see me no more; again a little while, and you will see me."	16 Ancora un poco, e non mi vedrete; e un altro poco e mi vedrete; perchè vado al Padre.
17 Some of his disciples said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?"	17 Allora alcuni dei suoi discepoli dissero tra loro: Che vuol mai dire con questo suo: Ancora un poco e non mi vedrete, e un altro poco e mi vedrete, e me ne vado al Padre?
18 They said, "What does he mean by 'a little while? We do not know what he means."	18 E ripetevano: Che significa questo suo « un poco »? Non comprendiamo quello che voglia dire.
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him; so he said to them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?	19 Or Gesù, conosciuto che volevano interrogarlo, disse loro: Vi domandate l'un l'altro che cosa voglia dire quel mio: Ancora un poco e non mi vedrete, un altro poco e mi vedrete.
20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.	20 In verità, in verità vi dico: piangerete e gemerete ed il mondo godrà: voi certo sarete in afflizione, ma la vostra tristezza sarà mutata in letizia.
21 When a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she is delivered of the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world.	21 La donna quando partorisce è fin doglia, perchè è giunta la sua ora; quando però ha dato alla luce il bambino non ricorda più l'angoscia a motivo dell'allegrezza, perchè è venuto al mondo un uomo.
22 So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.	22 Così voi siete ora in tristezza; ma io vi vedrò di nuovo, e ne gioirà il vostro cuore e nesgsuno vi toglierà la vostra gioia.
23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name.	23 E in quel giorno voi non mi interrogherete di nulla. In verità, in verità vi dico: qualunque cosa domanderete al Padre in nome mio, ve la concederà.
24 Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.	24 Fino ad lora non avete chiesto nulla in nome mio: chiedete e otterrete, affinchè la vostra gioia sia piena.
25 "I have said this to you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of the Father.	25 Queste cose io v'ho dette per via di paragoni. Ma sta per venire l'ora in cui non vi parlerò più per via di paragoni; ma apertamente vi darò conoscenza del Padre.
26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;	26 In quel giorno chiederete in nome mio, e non vi dico che io pregherò il Padre per voi;
27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from the Father.	27 perchè il Padre stesso vi ama, avendo voi amato me e creduto ch'io sia uscito dal Padre.
28 I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father."	28 Partito dal Padre, son venuto nel mondo; or lascio il mondo e torno al Padre!
29 His disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure!	29 Gli dissero i suoi discepoli: Ora sì che parli chiaro e non usi nessun paragone.
30 Now we know that you know all things, and need none to question you; by this we believe that you came from God."	30 Ora conosciamo che sai tutto e non hai bisogno che alcuno t'interroghi, e per questo crediamo che sei venuto da Dio.
31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?	31 Rispose Gesù: Ora credete?
32 The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.	32 Ecco, vien l'ora, anzi già è venuta, in cui vi disperderete ciascuno per la sua strada, e mi lascerete solo; ma non resto solo, perchè meco è il Padre.
33 I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."	33 Tali cose v'ho dette affinchè abbiate pace in me. Nel mondo avrete afflizioni; ma fatevi coraggio: io ho vinto il mondo.
