John 16

1 "I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away.	1 Questo vi ho detto, perché non rimaniate scandalizzati.
2 They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.	2 Vi cacceranno fuori dalle sinagoghe; viene anzi l'ora in cui chi vi ucciderà penserà di rendere un culto a Dio.
3 And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me.	3 Questo faranno perché non hanno conosciuto né il Padre né me.
4 But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them. "I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.	4 Ma questo vi ho detto affinché, quando verrà la loro ora, ricordiate che io ve l'avevo detto". "Non vi ho detto questo fin dall'inizio, perché ero con voi.
5 But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'	5 Ora invece vado a Colui che mi ha mandato e nessuno di voi mi domanda: "Dove vai?".
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.	6 Anzi, poiché vi ho detto questo, la tristezza ha riempito il vostro cuore.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.	7 Ma io vi dico la verità: è meglio per voi che io parta; perché, se non parto, il Paraclito non verrà a voi. Se invece me ne vado, lo manderò a voi.
8 And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:	8 E quando egli verrà, confuterà il mondo in fatto di peccato, di giustizia e di giudizio.
9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;	9 In fatto di peccato: perché non credono in me;
10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more;	10 in fatto di giustizia: perché me ne vado al Padre e voi non mi vedrete più;
11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.	11 in fatto di giudizio: perché il principe di questo mondo è già giudicato.
12 "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.	12 Ancora molte cose ho da dirvi, ma non le potete portare per ora.
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.	13 Quando verrà lo Spirito di verità, egli vi guiderà in tutta la verità. Non parlerà infatti da se stesso, ma quanto sentirà dirà e vi annuncerà le cose venture.
14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.	14 Egli mi glorificherà, perché prenderà da me e ve lo annuncerà.
15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.	15 Tutto quanto ha il Padre è mio. Per questo vi ho detto che prenderà da me e lo annuncerà a voi".
16 "A little while, and you will see me no more; again a little while, and you will see me."	16 "Un poco e non mi vedrete più; e poi un poco ancora, e mi vedrete".
17 Some of his disciples said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?"	17 Allora alcuni dei suoi discepoli dissero fra loro: "Che è mai questo che ci dice: "Un poco e non mi vedrete e poi un poco ancora e mi vedrete"? e: "Io me ne vado al Padre"?".
18 They said, "What does he mean by 'a little while? We do not know what he means."	18 Dicevano dunque: "Che è mai questo "un poco" di cui parla? Non comprendiamo che cosa voglia dire".
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him; so he said to them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?	19 Gesù conobbe che volevano interrogarlo e disse loro: "V'interrogate fra di voi riguardo a ciò che vi ho detto: "Un poco e non mi vedrete e poi ancora un poco e mi vedrete"?
20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.	20 In verità, in verità vi dico: voi piangerete e gemerete, mentre il mondo si rallegrerà. Voi vi rattristerete, ma la vostra tristezza si cambierà in gioia.
21 When a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she is delivered of the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world.	21 La donna, quando partorisce, ha tristezza, perché è venuta la sua ora. Ma quando ha partorito il bambino non si ricorda più della sofferenza per la gioia che è nato un uomo al mondo.
22 So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.	22 Anche voi ora avete tristezza, ma vi vedrò di nuovo, il vostro cuore si rallegrerà e la vostra gioia nessuno ve la potrà rapire.
23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name.	23 In quel giorno non mi farete più alcuna domanda. In verità, in verità vi dico: qualsiasi cosa chiediate al Padre nel nome mio, nel mio nome ve la darà.
24 Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.	24 Finora non avete chiesto nulla nel mio nome. Chiedete e riceverete, in modo che la vostra gioia sia completa".
25 "I have said this to you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of the Father.	25 "Questo vi ho detto in similitudini. Viene l'ora in cui non vi parlerò più in similitudini, ma vi annuncerò apertamente quanto riguarda il Padre mio.
26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;	26 In quel giorno chiederete nel mio nome e non vi dico che io pregherò il Padre per voi:
27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from the Father.	27 il Padre stesso infatti vi ama, poiché voi mi avete amato e avete creduto che sono uscito da Dio.
28 I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father."	28 Sono uscito dal Padre e sono venuto nel mondo. Ora lascio il mondo e vado al Padre".
29 His disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure!	29 Dicono i suoi discepoli: "Ecco che ora parli apertamente e non usi nessuna figura.
30 Now we know that you know all things, and need none to question you; by this we believe that you came from God."	30 Ora sappiamo che conosci tutto e non hai bisogno che ti si interroghi. Per questo crediamo che sei uscito da Dio".
31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?	31 Rispose loro Gesù: "Voi adesso credete?
32 The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.	32 Ecco che viene l'ora, ed è venuta, che sarete dispersi ciascuno per conto suo e mi lascerete solo. Ma io non sono solo, perché il Padre è con me.
33 I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."	33 Questo vi ho detto perché abbiate pace in me. In questo mondo avete da soffrire; ma abbiate coraggio: io ho vinto il mondo".
