John 14

1 "Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.	1 "Euer Herz erschrecke nicht! Glaubt an Gott und glaubt an mich!
2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?	2 Im Hause meines Vaters sind viele Wohnungen. Wäre es nicht so, hätte ich es euch gesagt; denn ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten.
3 And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.	3 Und bin ich hingegangen und habe ich eine Stätte bereitet für euch dann komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, damit, wo ich bin, auch ihr seid.
4 And you know the way where I am going."	4 Und wohin ich gehe, wißt ihr den Weg."
5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"	5 Da sagte Thomas zu ihm: "Herr, wir wissen nicht, wohin du gehst; wie können wir den Weg wissen?"
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.	6 Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Ich bin der Weg, die Wahrheit und das Leben; niemand kommt zum Vater außer durch mich.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also; henceforth you know him and have seen him."	7 Hättet ihr mich erkannt, würdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen; von jetzt an kennt ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen."
8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied."	8 Philippus sagte zu ihm: "Herr, zeige uns den Vater, und es genügt uns."
9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father?	9 Jesus sprach zu ihm: "So lange Zeit bin ich bei euch, und du hast mich nicht erkannt, Philippus? Wer mich sah, hat den Vater gesehen. Wie kannst du sagen: Zeig uns den Vater!?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.	10 Glaubst du nicht, daß ich im Vater bin und daß der Vater in mir ist? Die Worte, die ich zu euch sage, rede ich nicht aus mir; der Vater, der in mir wohnt, er selbst ist am Werke.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.	11 Glaubt mir, daß ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist! Wenn nicht, dann glaubt eben um der Werke willen!
12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.	12 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, wird auch selber die Werke tun, die ich tue, und noch größere als diese wird er tun; denn ich gehe zum Vater,
13 Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;	13 und um was immer ihr bitten werdet [den Vater] in meinem Namen, das werde ich tun, damit verherrlicht werde der Vater im Sohn.
14 if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.	14 Wenn ihr um etwas mich bittet in meinem Namen, werde ich es tun.
15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.	15 Wenn ihr mich liebt, werdet ihr meine Gebote halten,
16 And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever,	16 und ich werde den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Beistand geben, damit er immerfort bei euch bleibe,
17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.	17 den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, weil sie ihn nicht sieht und nicht kennt. Ihr aber kennt ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein.
18 "I will not leave you desolate; I will come to you.	18 Ich werde euch nicht als Waisen zurücklassen; ich komme zu euch.
19 Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me; because I live, you will live also.	19 Noch eine kleine Weile, und die Welt sieht mich nicht mehr; ihr aber seht mich, denn ich lebe, und auch ihr werdet leben.
20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.	20 An jenem Tage werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich in meinem Vater bin und ihr in mir und ich in euch.
21 He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."	21 Wer meine Gebote hat und sie hält, der ist es, der mich liebt. Wer aber mich liebt, wird geliebt werden von meinem Vater, und ich werde ihn lieben und mich ihm offenbaren."
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?"	22 Da sagte Judas, nicht der Iskariote, zu ihm: "Herr, wie kommt es, daß du dich uns offenbaren wirst und nicht der Welt?"
23 Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.	23 Jesus antwortete ihm: "Wenn einer mich liebt, wird er mein Wort bewahren, und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm nehmen.
24 He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.	24 Wer mich nicht liebt, bewahrt nicht meine Worte. Das Wort aber, das ihr hört, ist nicht mein, sondern des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat.
25 "These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you.	25 Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, da ich noch bei euch bin.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.	26 Der Beistand aber, der Heilige Geist, den der Vater senden wird in meinem Namen, er wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.	27 Frieden lasse ich euch zurück, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch; nicht wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz erschrecke und verzage nicht!
28 You heard me say to you, 'I go away, and I will come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.	28 Ihr habt gehört, daß ich euch sagte: Ich gehe hin und komme zu euch. Wenn ihr mich liebtet, würdet ihr euch freuen, daß ich zum Vater gehe, denn der Vater ist größer als ich.
29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place, you may believe.	29 Jetzt schon habe ich es euch gesagt, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr glaubt, wenn es geschieht.
30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me;	30 Nicht mehr viel werde ich mit euch reden; denn es kommt der Fürst dieser Welt, und vermag er auch nichts gegen mich,
31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go hence.	31 so soll die Welt doch erkennen, daß ich den Vater liebe und tue, wie mir der Vater aufgetragen hat. Steht auf, laßt uns fortgehen von hier!
