1 "Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.	1 »Euer Herz erschrecke nicht! Vertrauet auf Gott und vertrauet auf mich!
2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?	2 In meines Vaters Hause sind viele Wohnungen; wenn es nicht so wäre, hätte ich es euch gesagt; denn ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten;
3 And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.	3 und wenn ich hingegangen bin und euch eine Stätte bereitet habe, komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, damit da, wo ich bin, auch ihr seid.
4 And you know the way where I am going."	4 Und wohin ich gehe – den Weg dahin kennt ihr.«
5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"	5 Da sagte Thomas zu ihm: »Herr, wir wissen nicht, wohin du gehst: wie sollten wir da den Weg kennen?«
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.	6 Jesus antwortete ihm: »Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben; niemand kommt zum Vater außer durch mich.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also; henceforth you know him and have seen him."	7 Wenn ihr mich erkannt hättet, würdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen; von jetzt an kennt ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen.«
8 Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied."	8 Philippus sagte zu ihm: »Herr, zeige uns den Vater: das genügt uns.«
9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father?	9 Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: »So lange Zeit schon bin ich mit euch zusammen, und (trotzdem) hast du mich noch nicht erkannt, Philippus? Wer mich gesehen hat, der hat den Vater gesehen; wie kannst du sagen: ›Zeige uns den Vater!‹
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.	10 Glaubst du nicht, daß ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist? Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, spreche ich nicht von mir selbst aus, nein, der Vater, der dauernd in mir ist, der tut seine Werke.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.	11 Glaubet mir, daß ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist; wo nicht, so glaubt doch um der Werke selbst willen!«
12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.	12 Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, wird die Werke, die ich tue, auch vollbringen, ja er wird noch größere als diese vollbringen;
13 Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;	13 denn ich gehe zum Vater, und alles, um was ihr (dann) in meinem Namen bitten werdet, das werde ich tun, damit der Vater im Sohn (oder: durch den Sohn) verherrlicht werde.
14 if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.	14 Wenn ihr mich um etwas in meinem Namen bitten werdet, so werde ich es tun. –
15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.	15 Wenn ihr mich liebt, so werdet ihr meine Gebote halten;
16 And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever,	16 und ich werde den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Helfer (oder: Anwalt, Beistand) geben, damit er bis in Ewigkeit bei euch sei:
17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.	17 den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, weil sie ihn nicht sieht (d.h. kein Auge für ihn hat) und ihn nicht erkennt; ihr aber erkennt ihn, weil er bei euch bleibt und in euch sein wird. –
18 "I will not leave you desolate; I will come to you.	18 Ich will euch nicht verwaist zurücklassen (= als Waisenkinder dastehen lassen): ich komme zu euch!
19 Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me; because I live, you will live also.	19 Nur noch eine kurze Zeit, dann sieht mich die Welt nicht mehr; ihr aber seht mich, daß ich lebe, und ihr sollt auch leben!
20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.	20 An jenem Tage werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich in meinem Vater bin und ihr in mir seid und ich in euch.«
21 He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."	21 »Wer meine Gebote hat und sie hält (= befolgt), der ist es, der mich liebt; wer aber mich liebt, wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden, und auch ich werde ihn lieben und mich ihm offenbaren.«
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?"	22 Da fragte ihn Judas – nicht der Iskariot –: »Herr, wie kommt es (oder: welches ist der Grund), daß du dich (nur) uns offenbaren willst und nicht (auch) der Welt?«
23 Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.	23 Jesus antwortete ihm mit den Worten: »Wenn jemand mich liebt, wird er mein Wort halten (oder: befolgen), und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm nehmen.
24 He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.	24 Wer mich nicht liebt, hält (oder: befolgt) auch meine Worte nicht; und doch kommt das Wort, das ihr hört, nicht von mir, sondern vom Vater, der mich gesandt hat.«
25 "These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you.	25 »Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, während ich bei euch weilte.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.	26 Der Helfer (oder: Anwalt, Beistand) aber, der heilige Geist, den der Vater in meinem Namen senden wird, der wird euch über alles (Weitere) belehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe. –
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.	27 Frieden hinterlasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch; nicht so, wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz erschrecke nicht und verzage nicht!
28 You heard me say to you, 'I go away, and I will come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.	28 Ihr habt gehört, daß ich euch gesagt habe: ›Ich gehe hin und komme wieder zu euch.‹ Hättet ihr mich lieb, so hättet ihr euch gefreut, daß ich zum Vater gehe, denn der Vater ist größer als ich.
29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place, you may believe.	29 Und schon jetzt habe ich es euch gesagt, bevor es geschieht, damit ihr zum Glauben kommt, wenn es geschieht.
30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me;	30 Ich werde nicht mehr viel mit euch reden, denn es kommt der Fürst der Welt; doch über mich hat er keine Macht (oder: kein Anrecht auf mich).
31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go hence.	31 Damit aber die Welt erkennt, daß ich den Vater liebe und so tue, wie der Vater mir geboten hat: erhebt euch! Laßt uns von hier aufbrechen!«
