1 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.	1 Solían acercarse a Jesús todos los publicanos y los pecadores a escucharlo.
2 And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."	2 Y los fariseos y los escribas murmuraban diciendo: «Ese acoge a los pecadores y come con ellos».
3 So he told them this parable:	3 Jesús les dijo esta parábola:
4 "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it?	4 «¿Quién de vosotros que tiene cien ovejas y pierde una de ellas, no deja las noventa y nueve en el desierto y va tras la descarriada, hasta que la encuentra?
5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.	5 Y, cuando la encuentra, se la carga sobre los hombros, muy contento;
6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'	6 y, al llegar a casa, reúne a los amigos y a los vecinos, y les dice: “¡Alegraos conmigo!, he encontrado la oveja que se me había perdido”.
7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.	7 Os digo que así también habrá más alegría en el cielo por un solo pecador que se convierta que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitan convertirse.
8 "Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?	8 O ¿qué mujer que tiene diez monedas, si se le pierde una, no enciende una lámpara y barre la casa y busca con cuidado, hasta que la encuentra?
9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.'	9 Y, cuando la encuentra, reúne a las amigas y a las vecinas y les dice: “¡Alegraos conmigo!, he encontrado la moneda que se me había perdido”.
10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents."	10 Os digo que la misma alegría tendrán los ángeles de Dios por un solo pecador que se convierta».
11 And he said, "There was a man who had two sons;	11 También les dijo: «Un hombre tenía dos hijos;
12 and the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of property that falls to me.' And he divided his living between them.	12 el menor de ellos dijo a su padre: “Padre, dame la parte que me toca de la fortuna”. El padre les repartió los bienes.
13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living.	13 No muchos días después, el hijo menor, juntando todo lo suyo, se marchó a un país lejano, y allí derrochó su fortuna viviendo perdidamente.
14 And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want.	14 Cuando lo había gastado todo, vino por aquella tierra un hambre terrible, y empezó él a pasar necesidad.
15 So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine.	15 Fue entonces y se contrató con uno de los ciudadanos de aquel país que lo mandó a sus campos a apacentar cerdos.
16 And he would gladly have fed on the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything.	16 Deseaba saciarse de las algarrobas que comían los cerdos, pero nadie le daba nada.
17 But when he came to himself he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger!	17 Recapacitando entonces, se dijo: “Cuántos jornaleros de mi padre tienen abundancia de pan, mientras yo aquí me muero de hambre.
18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you;	18 Me levantaré, me pondré en camino adonde está mi padre, y le diré: Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti;
19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants."'	19 ya no merezco llamarme hijo tuyo: trátame como a uno de tus jornaleros”.
20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.	20 Se levantó y vino adonde estaba su padre; cuando todavía estaba lejos, su padre lo vio y se le conmovieron las entrañas; y, echando a correr, se le echó al cuello y lo cubrió de besos.
21 And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'	21 Su hijo le dijo: “Padre, he pecado contra el cielo y contra ti; ya no merezco llamarme hijo tuyo”.
22 But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet;	22 Pero el padre dijo a sus criados: “Sacad enseguida la mejor túnica y vestídsela; ponedle un anillo en la mano y sandalias en los pies;
23 and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry;	23 traed el ternero cebado y sacrificadlo; comamos y celebremos un banquete,
24 for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to make merry.	24 porque este hijo mío estaba muerto y ha revivido; estaba perdido y lo hemos encontrado”. Y empezaron a celebrar el banquete.
25 "Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.	25 Su hijo mayor estaba en el campo. Cuando al volver se acercaba a la casa, oyó la música y la danza,
26 And he called one of the servants and asked what this meant.	26 y llamando a uno de los criados, le preguntó qué era aquello.
27 And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.'	27 Este le contestó: “Ha vuelto tu hermano; y tu padre ha sacrificado el ternero cebado, porque lo ha recobrado con salud”.
28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,	28 Él se indignó y no quería entrar, pero su padre salió e intentaba persuadirlo.
29 but he answered his father, 'Lo, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends.	29 Entonces él respondió a su padre: “Mira: en tantos años como te sirvo, sin desobedecer nunca una orden tuya, a mí nunca me has dado un cabrito para tener un banquete con mis amigos;
30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!'	30 en cambio, cuando ha venido ese hijo tuyo que se ha comido tus bienes con malas mujeres, le matas el ternero cebado”.
31 And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.	31 Él le dijo: “Hijo, tú estás siempre conmigo, y todo lo mío es tuyo;
32 It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"	32 pero era preciso celebrar un banquete y alegrarse, porque este hermano tuyo estaba muerto y ha revivido; estaba perdido y lo hemos encontrado”».
