Jeremiah 31

1 "At that time, says the LORD, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people."	1 En ce temps-là, dit le Seigneur, Je serai le Dieu de toutes les familles d'Israël, et ils seront Mon peuple.
2 Thus says the LORD: "The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest,	2 Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Mon peuple, qui avait échappé au glaive, a trouvé grâce dans le désert; Israël ira à son repos.
3 the LORD appeared to him from afar. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.	3 De loin le Seigneur m'est apparu. Je t'ai aimé d'un amour éternel; c'est pourquoi Je t'ai attiré par compassion.
4 Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with timbrels, and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.	4 Je te bâtirai encore, et tu seras bâtie, vierge d'Israël; tu seras encore parée de tes tambourins, et tu sortiras au milieu de danses joyeuses.
5 Again you shall plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit.	5 Tu planteras encore des vignes sur les montagnes de Samarie; les planteurs planteront, et jusqu'à ce que le temps soit venu, ils ne vendangeront pas.
6 For there shall be a day when watchmen will call in the hill country of Ephraim: 'Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.'"	6 Car il viendra un jour où les gardes crieront sur la montagne d'Ephraïm : Levez-vous, et montons à Sion vers le Seigneur notre Dieu.
7 For thus says the LORD: "Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, 'The LORD has saved his people, the remnant of Israel.'	7 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur : Tressaillez de joie, Jacob, et poussez des cris d'allégresse à la tête des nations; faites du bruit, chantez et dites : Sauvez, Seigneur, Votre peuple, les restes d'Israël.
8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who is in travail, together; a great company, they shall return here.	8 Voici, Je les amènerai de la terre d'aquilon, et Je les rassemblerai des extrémités du monde; parmi eux seront l'aveugle et le boiteux, la femme enceinte et celle en travail, mêlés ensemble, et ils reviendront ici en grande foule.
9 With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will make them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.	9 Ils viendront en pleurant, et Je les ramènerai avec miséricorde; Je les conduirai à travers les torrents d'eau par un chemin droit, où ils ne trébucheront pas, car Je suis devenu le père d'Israël, et Ephraïm est Mon premier-né.
10 "Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands afar off; say, 'He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.'	10 Nations, écoutez la parole du Seigneur, et annoncez-la aux îles lointaines, et dites : Celui qui a dispersé Israël le rassemblera, et Il le gardera comme un pasteur garde son troupeau.
11 For the LORD has ransomed Jacob, and has redeemed him from hands too strong for him.	11 Car le Seigneur a racheté Jacob, et Il l'a délivré de la main d'un plus fort que lui.
12 They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the LORD, over the grain, the wine, and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; their life shall be like a watered garden, and they shall languish no more.	12 Ils viendront, et ils loueront sur la montagne de Sion; et ils accourront vers les biens du Seigneur, vers le blé, le vin, l'huile, et le fruit des brebis et des boeufs; leur âme sera comme un jardin arrosé, et ils ne souffriront plus de la faim.
13 Then shall the maidens rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy, I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.	13 Alors la vierge se réjouira dans les choeurs de danse, et les jeunes gens et les vieillards se réjouiront ensemble; et Je changerai leur deuil en joie; Je les consolerai, et après leur douleur Je les comblerai de joie.
14 I will feast the soul of the priests with abundance, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says the LORD."	14 J'enivrerai et engraisserai l'âme des prêtres, et Mon peuple sera rempli de mes biens, dit le Seigneur.
15 Thus says the LORD: "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are not."	15 Ainsi parle le Seigneur : On a entendu des cris sur la hauteur, ce sont les lamentations, le deuil et les larmes de Rachel, qui pleure ses enfants, et qui refuse de se consoler à leur sujet, parce qu'ils ne sont plus.
16 Thus says the LORD: "Keep your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the LORD, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy.	16 Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Que ta bouche cesse de se plaindre et tes yeux de pleurer, car tes oeuvres auront leur récompense, dit le Seigneur, et ils reviendront du pays de l'ennemi;
17 There is hope for your future, says the LORD, and your children shall come back to their own country.	17 et il y a de l'espérance pour tes derniers jours, dit le Seigneur, et tes enfants reviendront sur leur territoire.
18 I have heard Ephraim bemoaning, 'Thou hast chastened me, and I was chastened, like an untrained calf; bring me back that I may be restored, for thou art the LORD my God.	18 J'ai entendu Ephraïm lorsqu'il allait en exil : Vous m'avez châtié, et j'ai été instruit comme un jeune taureau indompté; convertissez-moi, et je me convertirai, parce que Vous êtes le Seigneur mon Dieu.
19 For after I had turned away I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, and I was confounded, because I bore the disgrace of my youth.'	19 Car après que Vous m'avez converti, j'ai fait pénitence; et après que Vous m'avez éclairé, j'ai frappé sur ma cuisse. J'ai été confus et j'ai rougi, parce que j'ai porté l'opprobre de ma jeunesse.
20 Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says the LORD.	20 Ephraïm n'est-il pas pour Moi un fils honoré, un enfant élevé avec tendresse? Aussi, quoique J'aie parlé contre lui, Je Me souviens encore de lui. C'est pourquoi Mes entrailles se sont émues à son sujet; J'aurai certainement pitié de lui, dit le Seigneur.
21 "Set up waymarks for yourself, make yourself guideposts; consider well the highway, the road by which you went. Return, O virgin Israel, return to these your cities.	21 Fais-toi un poste d'observation, abandonne-toi à l'amertume; dirige ton coeur vers la voie droite sur laquelle tu as marché; reviens, vierge d'Israël, reviens dans ces villes qui sont à toi.
22 How long will you waver, O faithless daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing on the earth: a woman protects a man."	22 Jusques à quand seras-tu dissolue par les délices, fille vagabonde? Car le Seigneur a créé une chose nouvelle sur ta terre : Une femme environnera un homme.
23 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Once more they shall use these words in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I restore their fortunes: 'The LORD bless you, O habitation of righteousness, O holy hill!'	23 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : On dira encore cette parole dans le pays de Juda et dans ses villes, lorsque J'aurai ramené leurs captifs : Que le Seigneur te bénisse, beauté de la justice, montagne sainte;
24 And Judah and all its cities shall dwell there together, and the farmers and those who wander with their flocks.	24 et là habiteront Juda et toutes ses villes, les laboureurs et ceux qui conduisent les troupeaux.
25 For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish."	25 Car J'ai enivré l'âme fatiguée, et J'ai rassasié toute âme affamée.
26 Thereupon I awoke and looked, and my sleep was pleasant to me.	26 Sur cela, je me suis éveillé comme d'un sommeil; j'ai regardé, et mon sommeil m'a été doux.
27 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast.	27 Voici que les jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, où J'ensemencerai la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda d'une semence d'hommes et d'une semence d'animaux.
28 And it shall come to pass that as I have watched over them to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring evil, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the LORD.	28 Et comme J'ai veillé sur eux pour arracher, et pour détruire, et pour dissiper, et pour perdre, et pour affliger, ainsi Je veillerai sur eux pour bâtir et pour planter, dit le Seigneur.
29 In those days they shall no longer say: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'	29 En ces jours-là on ne dira plus : Les pères ont mangé des raisins verts, et les dents des enfants en ont été agacées.
30 But every one shall die for his own sin; each man who eats sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.	30 Mais chacun mourra pour son iniquité; si quelqu'un mange des raisins verts, il aura lui-même les dents agacées.
31 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah,	31 Les jours viennent, dit le Seeigneur, où Je ferai une nouvelle alliance avec la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda,
32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the LORD.	32 non selon l'alliance que J'ai contractée avec leurs pères, le jour où Je les pris par la main pour les faire sortir du pays d'Egypte, alliance qu'ils ont violée; aussi leur ai-Je fait sentir Mon pouvoir, dit le Seigneur.
33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.	33 Mais voici l'alliance que Je ferai avec la maison d'Israël après ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur : Je mettrai Ma loi dans leurs entrailles, et Je l'écrirai dans leur coeur, et Je serai leur Dieu, et ils seront Mon peuple;
34 And no longer shall each man teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."	34 et personne n'enseignera plus son prochain et son frère, en disant : Connais le Seigneur; car tous Me connaîtront, depuis le plus petit d'entre eux jusqu'au plus grand, dit le Seigneur; car Je leur pardonnerai leur iniquité, et Je ne Me souviendrai plus de leurs péchés.
35 Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar--the LORD of hosts is his name:	35 Ainsi parle le Seigneur, qui donne le soleil pour la lumière du jour, et le cours de la lune et des étoiles pour la lumière de la nuit; qui agite la mer et fait retenir ses flots; Son nom est le Seigneur des armées:
36 "If this fixed order departs from before me, says the LORD, then shall the descendants of Israel cease from being a nation before me for ever."	36 Si ces lois viennent à cesser devant Moi, dit le Seigneur, alors la race d'Israël cessera aussi d'être un peuple devant Moi pour toujours.
37 Thus says the LORD: "If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the descendants of Israel for all that they have done, says the LORD."	37 Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Si l'on peut mesurer les cieux en haut, et sonder les fondemeents de la terre en bas, alors Je rejetterai toute la race d'Israël, à cause de tout ce qu'ils ont fait, dit le Seigneur.
38 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when the city shall be rebuilt for the LORD from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.	38 Voici que les jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, où cette ville sera rebâtie pour le Seigneur, depuis la tour d'Hananéel jusqu'à la porte de l'angle.
39 And the measuring line shall go out farther, straight to the hill Gareb, and shall then turn to Goah.	39 Et le cordeau sera porté encore plus loin vis-à-vis, sur la colline de Gareb, et il tournera autour de Goatha,
40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and the ashes, and all the fields as far as the brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be sacred to the LORD. It shall not be uprooted or overthrown any more for ever."	40 et de toute la vallée des cadavres, et des cendres, et de toute la région de mort, jusqu'au torrent de Cédron, et jusqu'à l'angle de la porte des chevaux à l'orient : ce lieu sera consacré au Seigneur; il ne sera plus jamais reversé, ni détruit.
