Jeremiah 31

1 "At that time, says the LORD, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people."	1 En ce temps-là - parole de Yahvé - je serai le Dieu de tous les clans d’Israël, et eux seront mon peuple.
2 Thus says the LORD: "The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest,	2 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Le peuple rescapé de l’épée affronte les chaleurs du désert; Israël marche vers le lieu de son repos.
3 the LORD appeared to him from afar. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.	3 De loin, Yahvé lui est apparu: Je t’ai aimé d’un amour éternel, c’est pourquoi je t’ai gardé ma faveur.
4 Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with timbrels, and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.	4 Je te rebâtirai, vierge d’Israël, et tu seras rebâtie. Tu retrouveras tes tambourins et de nouveau tu sortiras au rythme des danses joyeuses.
5 Again you shall plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit.	5 De nouveau, sur les monts de Samarie, tu planteras des vignes, et ceux qui les auront plantées en cueilleront les grappes.
6 For there shall be a day when watchmen will call in the hill country of Ephraim: 'Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.'"	6 Voici venir le jour où les veilleurs crieront dans les monts d’Éphraïm: “Debout, montons à Sion, vers Yahvé notre Dieu!”
7 For thus says the LORD: "Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, 'The LORD has saved his people, the remnant of Israel.'	7 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Poussez des cris de joie en l’honneur de Jacob! Acclamez la première des nations, proclamez et chantez: Yahvé a sauvé son peuple, le reste d’Israël.
8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who is in travail, together; a great company, they shall return here.	8 Voici que je les amène des pays du nord, je les rassemble des extrémités de la terre: ils sont tous là, l’aveugle et le boiteux, la femme enceinte et celle qui vient de mettre au monde. Quelle assemblée immense au retour!
9 With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will make them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.	9 Ils étaient partis dans les larmes, je les ramènerai apaisés, je les conduirai vers les eaux courantes par un bon chemin où ils ne trébucheront plus, car je serai un père pour Israël, Éphraïm sera mon premier-né.
10 "Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands afar off; say, 'He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.'	10 Nations, écoutez la parole de Yahvé, proclamez-la dans les îles lointaines et dites: celui qui a dispersé Israël le rassemble, il le gardera comme un berger garde son troupeau.
11 For the LORD has ransomed Jacob, and has redeemed him from hands too strong for him.	11 Car Yahvé a racheté Jacob, il l’a délivré de la main d’un plus fort que lui.
12 They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the LORD, over the grain, the wine, and the oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd; their life shall be like a watered garden, and they shall languish no more.	12 Ils arriveront, criant de joie, au haut-lieu de Sion; ils accourront vers les biens de Yahvé: le blé, le vin nouveau et l’huile, les brebis et les bœufs. Leur âme sera comme un jardin bien arrosé, ils ne se traîneront plus.
13 Then shall the maidens rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy, I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.	13 Alors les vierges danseront de joie, jeunes et vieux seront en fête; je changerai leur deuil en joie, je leur donnerai du bonheur après leurs épreuves.
14 I will feast the soul of the priests with abundance, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says the LORD."	14 Les prêtres recevront la graisse en abondance, et mon peuple sera comblé de mes bienfaits - car Yahvé a parlé.
15 Thus says the LORD: "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are not."	15 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: On a entendu une rumeur à Rama, des lamentations, des sanglots: c’était Rachel qui pleurait ses enfants; elle refusait de se consoler car ils n’étaient plus.
16 Thus says the LORD: "Keep your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the LORD, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy.	16 Mais voici ce que dit Yahvé: Retiens les sanglots de ta voix et les larmes de tes yeux, car ta peine aura sa récompense. Ils reviendront du pays de l’ennemi.
17 There is hope for your future, says the LORD, and your children shall come back to their own country.	17 Espère pour ton avenir, car tes fils rentreront dans leurs frontières.
18 I have heard Ephraim bemoaning, 'Thou hast chastened me, and I was chastened, like an untrained calf; bring me back that I may be restored, for thou art the LORD my God.	18 J’entends, j’entends la voix d’Éphraïm qui se plaint: “Tu m’as corrigé et j’ai été corrigé, comme un jeune taureau pas encore dressé. Fais-moi revenir et je reviendrai, car tu es Yahvé mon Dieu.
19 For after I had turned away I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, and I was confounded, because I bore the disgrace of my youth.'	19 Après m’être écarté je me suis repenti, j’ai compris et je me suis frappé la poitrine; j’étais tout honteux, je rougissais: oui, ma jeunesse honteuse pesait sur moi.
20 Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says the LORD.	20 - Éphraïm est-il donc pour moi un fils si chéri, un enfant tellement aimé que si je parle contre lui, je lui suis plus attaché. Aussi je me sens tout retourné et j’ai vraiment pitié de lui - parole de Yahvé.
21 "Set up waymarks for yourself, make yourself guideposts; consider well the highway, the road by which you went. Return, O virgin Israel, return to these your cities.	21 Dresse des signaux et fais-toi des repères, observe bien la route, le chemin par lequel tu t’en es allée, et puis reviens, vierge d’Israël! Reviens vers ces villes qui t’appartiennent.
22 How long will you waver, O faithless daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing on the earth: a woman protects a man."	22 Combien de temps encore seras-tu errante, fille rebelle? Voici que Yahvé crée du neuf dans ce pays: c’est la femme qui recherche l’homme!
23 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Once more they shall use these words in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I restore their fortunes: 'The LORD bless you, O habitation of righteousness, O holy hill!'	23 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël: “De nouveau on prononcera ces paroles dans le pays de Juda et dans ses villes, lorsque je ramènerai leurs captifs: Que Yahvé te bénisse, Demeure-de-Justice, Sainte-Montagne.
24 And Judah and all its cities shall dwell there together, and the farmers and those who wander with their flocks.	24 Tout Juda et ses villes se rétabliront; ils cultiveront la terre et garderont les troupeaux.
25 For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish."	25 Oui, je donnerai à boire à celui qui est fatigué et je comblerai celui qui est épuisé.”
26 Thereupon I awoke and looked, and my sleep was pleasant to me.	26 Alors je me suis réveillé et j’ai vu que mon sommeil avait été bon.
27 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of beast.	27 Des jours viennent - parole de Yahvé - où j’ensemencerai la maison d’Israël et la maison de Juda: avec des hommes, et aussi du bétail.
28 And it shall come to pass that as I have watched over them to pluck up and break down, to overthrow, destroy, and bring evil, so I will watch over them to build and to plant, says the LORD.	28 Je me suis occupé d’eux: je déracinais et renversais, je démolissais, j’exterminais et amenais le malheur. Mais maintenant - parole de Yahvé - je m’occuperai d’eux pour bâtir et pour planter.
29 In those days they shall no longer say: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'	29 En ces jours-là on ne dira plus: Les pères ont mangé des raisins verts et les dents des fils ont été agacées,
30 But every one shall die for his own sin; each man who eats sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.	30 mais chacun mourra pour sa propre faute; l’homme qui mangera du raisin vert, c’est lui dont les dents seront agacées.
31 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah,	31 Voici que des jours viennent - parole de Yahvé - où je ferai avec la maison d’Israël (et la maison de Juda) une alliance nouvelle.
32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the LORD.	32 Non pas comme l’alliance que j’ai faite avec leurs pères, le jour où je les ai empoignés pour les faire sortir du pays d’Égypte, une alliance qu’ils ont brisée alors que j’étais leur maître - parole de Yahvé.
33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.	33 Voici l’alliance que je ferai avec la maison d’Israël après ces jours-là - parole de Yahvé. Je mettrai ma loi au-dedans d’eux et je l’écrirai sur leur cœur; je serai leur Dieu, et eux seront mon peuple.
34 And no longer shall each man teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."	34 On n’aura plus à instruire son prochain, on ne dira plus à son frère: “Connais Yahvé!” Tous me connaîtront, du plus petit jusqu’au plus grand - parole de Yahvé, car j’aurai pardonné leurs fautes et je ne me souviendrai plus de leurs péchés.
35 Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar--the LORD of hosts is his name:	35 Voici ce que dit Yahvé, qui mit le soleil pour éclairer le jour, la lune et les étoiles pour éclairer la nuit, qui fend la mer et fait gronder ses flots, lui dont le nom est Yahvé Sabaot:
36 "If this fixed order departs from before me, says the LORD, then shall the descendants of Israel cease from being a nation before me for ever."	36 Si ces lois pouvaient disparaître devant moi - parole de Yahvé, la race d’Israël aussi cesserait d’être la nation qui est pour toujours à mon service.
37 Thus says the LORD: "If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the descendants of Israel for all that they have done, says the LORD."	37 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: S’il était possible de mesurer les cieux là-haut, et de fouiller vers le bas jusqu’aux fondations de la terre, je pourrais aussi rejeter la race entière d’Israël pour tout ce qu’ils ont fait - parole de Yahvé.
38 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when the city shall be rebuilt for the LORD from the tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate.	38 Voici venir des jours - parole de Yahvé - où Yahvé aura sa ville rebâtie depuis la tour de Hananéel jusqu’à la Porte-de-l’Angle.
39 And the measuring line shall go out farther, straight to the hill Gareb, and shall then turn to Goah.	39 On tendra tout droit le cordeau à mesurer jusqu’à la colline de Gareb, et l’on tournera ensuite vers Goa.
40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and the ashes, and all the fields as far as the brook Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be sacred to the LORD. It shall not be uprooted or overthrown any more for ever."	40 Toute la Vallée-des-cadavres-et-des-cendres, tous les terrains jusqu’au torrent du Cédron et jusqu’à l’angle de la Porte-des-Chevaux à l’est, seront consacrés à Yahvé; il n’y aura plus jamais destruction ou ruine.
