1 Much labor was created for every man, and a heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, from the day they come forth from their mother's womb till the day they return to the mother of all.	1 Wielka udręka stała się udziałem każdego człowieka i ciężkie jarzmo [spoczęło] na synach Adama, od dnia wyjścia z łona matki, aż do dnia powrotu do matki wszystkich.
2 Their perplexities and fear of heart-- their anxious thought is the day of death,	2 Przedmiotem ich rozmyślań i obawą serca jest myśl o tym, co ich czeka, jest dzień śmierci.
3 from the man who sits on a splendid throne to the one who is humbled in dust and ashes,	3 Poczynając od tego, który siedzi na wspaniałym tronie, aż do tego, który siedzi na ziemi i w popiele,
4 from the man who wears purple and a crown to the one who is clothed in burlap;	4 od tego, który nosi fioletową purpurę i wieniec, do tego, który się okrywa zgrzebnym płótnem: [wciąż] gniew, zazdrość, przerażenie i niepokój, bojaźń śmierci, nienawiść i kłótnia.
5 there is anger and envy and trouble and unrest, and fear of death, and fury and strife. And when one rests upon his bed, his sleep at night confuses his mind.	5 Nawet w czasie odpoczynku na łóżku sen nocny zmienia mu wyobrażenia:
6 He gets little or no rest, and afterward in his sleep, as though he were on watch, he is troubled by the visions of his mind like one who has escaped from the battle-front;	6 zaznaje mało spoczynku, jakby nic, a już w snach [ma takie wrażenie], jakby w dzień stał na czatach, jest przerażony widzeniem swego serca, jakby uciekał przed bitwą -
7 at the moment of his rescue he wakes up, and wonders that his fear came to nothing.	7 budzi się w chwili swego ocalenia i dziwi się, że strach ten był niczym.
8 With all flesh, both man and beast, and upon sinners seven times more,	8 Dla każdego stworzenia, od człowieka do zwierzęcia, a dla grzeszników siedem razy więcej:
9 are death and bloodshed and strife and sword, calamities, famine and affliction and plague.	9 śmierć, krew, kłótnia i miecz, klęski, głód, ucisk i cięgi.
10 All these were created for the wicked, and on their account the flood came.	10 Przeciw bezbożnym to wszystko zostało stworzone i przez nich przyszło całkowite zniszczenie.
11 All things that are from the earth turn back to the earth, and what is from the waters returns to the sea.	11 Wszystko, co jest z ziemi, do ziemi się wróci, a co z wody, powróci do morza.
12 All bribery and injustice will be blotted out, but good faith will stand for ever.	12 Każde przekupstwo i niesprawiedliwość zostaną starte, a uczciwość na wieki trwać będzie.
13 The wealth of the unjust will dry up like a torrent, and crash like a loud clap of thunder in a rain.	13 Bogactwa niesprawiedliwych wyschną jak potok i przeminą jak wielki grzmot, co się rozlega w czasie ulewy.
14 A generous man will be made glad; likewise transgressors will utterly fail.	14 Jak [sprawiedliwy] raduje się, gdy otwiera ręce, tak grzesznicy ulegną zatraceniu.
15 The children of the ungodly will not put forth many branches; they are unhealthy roots upon sheer rock.	15 Potomkowie bezbożnych nie wypuszczą latarośli, bo ich nieczyste korzenie są na urwistej skale,
16 The reeds by any water or river bank will be plucked up before any grass.	16 jak trzcina rosnąca nad każdą wodą i brzegiem rzeki przed każdą inną trawą będą zerwani.
17 Kindness is like a garden of blessings, and almsgiving endures for ever.	17 Dobroczynność jest jak raj we wszystko obfitujący, a jałmużna - trwa na wieki.
18 Life is sweet for the self-reliant and the worker, but he who finds treasure is better off than both.	18 Człowiek samowystarczalny i pracujący - wiodą życie przyjemne, ale wyżej od obydwóch [stoi] ten, co skarb znajduje.
19 Children and the building of a city establish a man's name, but a blameless wife is accounted better than both.	19 Dzieci i zbudowanie miasta uwieczniają imię, ale wyżej od tych obu rzeczy [stoi] kobieta nienaganna.
20 Wine and music gladden the heart, but the love of wisdom is better than both.	20 Wino i muzyka rozweselają serce, ale wyżej od tych obu rzeczy [stoi] umiłowanie mądrości.
21 The flute and the harp make pleasant melody, but a pleasant voice is better than both.	21 Flet i cytra umilają śpiewy, a bardziej niż jedno i drugie - mowa przyjemna.
22 The eye desires grace and beauty, but the green shoots of grain more than both.	22 Wdzięk i piękność pociągają oko, a bardziej niż jedno i drugie - świeża zieleń zasiewów.
23 A friend or a companion never meets one amiss, but a wife with her husband is better than both.	23 Przyjaciel i towarzysz spotykają się w chwili stosownej, a częściej niż obaj - żona z mężem.
24 Brothers and help are for a time of trouble, but almsgiving rescues better than both.	24 Bracia i opiekunowie [są pomocą] w czasie utrapienia, a bardziej niż jedni i drudzy wybawia jałmużna.
25 Gold and silver make the foot stand sure, but good counsel is esteemed more than both.	25 Złoto i srebro umacniają stopę, a bardziej niż jedno i drugie cenna jest rada.
26 Riches and strength lift up the heart, but the fear of the Lord is better than both. There is no loss in the fear of the Lord, and with it there is no need to seek for help.	26 Bogactwo i siła podnoszą na duchu, a bardziej niż jedno i drugie - bojaźń Pana. Przy bojaźni Pańskiej nie ma niedostatku, a [żyjąc] w niej nie potrzeba szukać pomocy.
27 The fear of the Lord is like a garden of blessing, and covers a man better than any glory.	27 Bojaźń Pana jest jak raj błogosławieństwa, a jej osłona przewyższa wszelką sławę.
28 My son, do not lead the life of a beggar; it is better to die than to beg.	28 Synu, nie prowadź życia żebraczego, lepiej umrzeć, niż żebrać.
29 When a man looks to the table of another, his existence cannot be considered as life. He pollutes himself with another man's food, but a man who is intelligent and well instructed guards against that.	29 Gdy człowiek musi patrzeć na stół drugiego, jego istnienia nie uważa się za życie, zbrudzi duszę swoją potrawami obcych: człowiek więc rozumny i dobrze wychowany tego się ustrzeże.
30 In the mouth of the shameless begging is sweet, but in his stomach a fire is kindled.	30 Żebractwo jest słodkie na ustach człowieka bezwstydnego, ale we wnętrzu jego płonie [ono jak] ogień.
