Sirach 36

1 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, the God of all, and look upon us,	1 Abbi pietà di noi, o Signore, Dio di tutte le cose, e manda il tuo terrore su tutte le nazioni.
2 and cause the fear of thee to fall upon all the nations.	2 Leva la tua mano contro le nazioni straniere, perché vedano la tua potenza.
3 Lift up thy hand against foreign nations and let them see thy might.	3 Come davanti a loro hai mostrato in noi la tua santità, così davanti a noi mostra in loro la tua potenza.
4 As in us thou hast been sanctified before them, so in them be thou magnified before us;	4 Riconoscano te come noi ti abbiamo riconosciuto, perché non c'è Dio al di fuori di te, o Signore.
5 and let them know thee, as we have known that there is not God but thee, O Lord.	5 Rinnova i segni e ripeti i miracoli, glorifica la tua mano ed il tuo braccio destro.
6 Show signs anew, and work further wonders; make thy hand and thy right arm glorious.	6 Desta il tuo furore e riversa la tua ira, distruggi l'avversario e stermina il nemico.
7 Rouse thy anger and pour out thy wrath; destroy the adversary and wipe out the enemy.	7 Accèlera i tempi e ricòrdati del giuramento, perché si raccontino i tuoi prodigi.
8 Hasten the day, and remember the appointed time, and let people recount thy mighty deeds.	8 Nel fuoco dell'ira si consumi chi era stato risparmiato, quanti maltrattano il tuo popolo trovino la perdizione.
9 Let him who survives be consumed in the fiery wrath, and may those who harm thy people meet destruction.	9 Stritola le teste dei prìncipi stranieri che dicono: "Non c'è nessuno al di fuori di noi".
10 Crush the heads of the rulers of the enemy, who say, "There is no one but ourselves."	10 Raccogli tutte le tribù di Giacobbe e prendine possesso come una volta.
11 Gather all the tribes of Jacob, and give them their inheritance, as at the beginning.	11 Abbi pietà, Signore, del popolo chiamato col tuo nome, d'Israele, che hai adottato come primo nato.
12 Have mercy, O Lord, upon the people called by thy name, upon Israel, whom thou hast likened to a first-born son.	12 Abbi compassione della città del tuo santuario, di Gerusalemme, luogo del tuo riposo.
13 Have pity on the city of thy sanctuary, Jerusalem, the place of thy rest.	13 Riempi Sion con la lode delle tue grandi imprese e il tuo tempio con la tua gloria.
14 Fill Zion with the celebration of thy wondrous deeds, and thy temple with thy glory.	14 Riconosci ora quelli che hai creato in origine e suscita le profezie che furono fatte nel tuo nome.
15 Bear witness to those whom thou didst create in the beginning, and fulfil the prophecies spoken in thy name.	15 Da' la ricompensa a quanti ti attendono, per dare ragione ai tuoi profeti.
16 Reward those who wait for thee, and let thy prophets be found trustworthy.	16 Esaudisci, Signore, la supplica dei tuoi servi per la benevolenza che hai con il tuo popolo.
17 Hearken, O Lord, to the prayer of thy servants, according to the blessing of Aaron for thy people, and all who are on the earth will know that thou art the Lord, the God of the ages.	17 Riconoscano tutti sopra la terra che tu, Signore, sei il Dio dei secoli.
18 The stomach will take any food, yet one food is better than another.	18 Lo stomaco mangia ogni cibo, ma qualche cibo piace più dell'altro.
19 As the palate tastes the kinds of game, so an intelligent mind detects false words.	19 Come la gola sente il sapore della selvaggina, così il cuore che riflette, le parole bugiarde.
20 A perverse mind will cause grief, but a man of experience will pay him back.	20 Il cuore perverso darà dolore, ma l'uomo sperimentato lo ricambierà.
21 A woman will accept any man, but one daughter is better than another.	21 La donna può accettare qualsiasi marito, ma una moglie non è uguale all'altra.
22 A woman's beauty gladdens the countenance, and surpasses every human desire.	22 La bellezza d'una donna rallegra il volto, supera ogni altro desiderio dell'uomo.
23 If kindness and humility mark her speech, her husband is not like other men.	23 Se nella sua lingua c'è bontà e gentilezza, suo marito non è come gli altri uomini.
24 He who acquires a wife gets his best possession, a helper fit for him and a pillar of support.	24 Chi prende moglie comincia la sua fortuna, ha un aiuto che gli è simile e una colonna d'appoggio.
25 Where there is no fence, the property will be plundered; and where there is no wife, a man will wander about and sigh.	25 Dove manca la siepe, la proprietà è saccheggiata, così dove non c'è moglie, l'uomo erra e geme.
26 For who will trust a nimble robber that skips from city to city? So who will trust a man that has no home, and lodges wherever night finds him?	26 Chi avrà fiducia in un soldato girovago, che passa da una città all'altra?
	27 Così è per l'uomo che non ha un nido e che alloggia là dove sopraggiunge la sera.
