Sirach 36

1 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, the God of all, and look upon us,	1 Miserere di noi, o Iddio di tutti, e guarda a noi, e mostraci la luce delle tue misericordie.
2 and cause the fear of thee to fall upon all the nations.	2 E manda lo tuo timore sopra le genti che non ti cercano, acciò ch' elle conoscano che non è Iddio se non tu, sì ch' elle narrino le tue maraviglie.
3 Lift up thy hand against foreign nations and let them see thy might.	3 Lieva la mano tua sopra le strane genti, sì che loro vegghino la potenza tua;
4 As in us thou hast been sanctified before them, so in them be thou magnified before us;	4 e sì come nel conspetto loro tu se' santificato in noi, così nel conspetto nostro sii tu magnificato in loro;
5 and let them know thee, as we have known that there is not God but thee, O Lord.	5 acciò ch' elli ti conoscano, sì come ti conosciamo noi, però che non è Iddio se non tu, o Signore.
6 Show signs anew, and work further wonders; make thy hand and thy right arm glorious.	6 Rinnova li segni, e muta li miracoli.
7 Rouse thy anger and pour out thy wrath; destroy the adversary and wipe out the enemy.	7 Glorifica la mano tua, e lo tuo destro braccio.
8 Hasten the day, and remember the appointed time, and let people recount thy mighty deeds.	8 Isdormenta il furore, e spandi l'ira.
9 Let him who survives be consumed in the fiery wrath, and may those who harm thy people meet destruction.	9 E togli via l'avversario, e affliggi il nimico.
10 Crush the heads of the rulers of the enemy, who say, "There is no one but ourselves."	10 Affretta il tempo, e ricòrdati della fine, sì che parlino le tue maraviglie.
11 Gather all the tribes of Jacob, and give them their inheritance, as at the beginning.	11 Nell' ira della fiamma sia divorato colui che si salva; e coloro che fanno malvagio il popolo tuo, ritrovino perdizione (eterna).
12 Have mercy, O Lord, upon the people called by thy name, upon Israel, whom thou hast likened to a first-born son.	12 Attrita il capo de' prìncipi delli nimici, che dicono: non è altro se non noi.
13 Have pity on the city of thy sanctuary, Jerusalem, the place of thy rest.	13 Raduna tutte le tribù di Iacob, e conoscano che non è Iddio se non tu, acciò che loro narrino le tue grandissime cose; e fara'li eredi, sì come al principio (promettesti).
14 Fill Zion with the celebration of thy wondrous deeds, and thy temple with thy glory.	14 Miserere del popolo tuo, sopra il quale è invocato il nome tuo; e miserere d' Israel, lo quale facesti eguale al tuo primogenito.
15 Bear witness to those whom thou didst create in the beginning, and fulfil the prophecies spoken in thy name.	15 Miserere di Ierusalem, cittade della tua santificazione, e cittade del tuo riposo.
16 Reward those who wait for thee, and let thy prophets be found trustworthy.	16 Riempi Sion delle innumerabili virtudi tue, e il popolo tuo della gloria tua.
17 Hearken, O Lord, to the prayer of thy servants, according to the blessing of Aaron for thy people, and all who are on the earth will know that thou art the Lord, the God of the ages.	17 Dà testimonianza [a coloro] che dal principio sono creature tue, e suscita li prieghi, li quali li primi profeti feciono nel nome tuo.
18 The stomach will take any food, yet one food is better than another.	18 Rimerita (Signore) coloro che sostengono te, acciò che li tuoi profeti si trovino fedeli; esaudi le orazioni de' servi tuoi.
19 As the palate tastes the kinds of game, so an intelligent mind detects false words.	19 Dà al popolo tuo secondo la benedizione di Aaron, e dirizza noi nella via della giustizia, acciò che coloro che àbitano nella terra sappiano che tu se' Iddio ragguardatore de' secoli.
20 A perverse mind will cause grief, but a man of experience will pay him back.	20 Il ventre mangerà ogni esca, ed è cibo migliore d'ogni cibo.
21 A woman will accept any man, but one daughter is better than another.	21 La mascella tocca il cibo delle bestie salvatiche, e il cuore sensato le parole bugiarde.
22 A woman's beauty gladdens the countenance, and surpasses every human desire.	22 Il cuore malvagio darae tristizia, e l' uomo savio resisterae a quella.
23 If kindness and humility mark her speech, her husband is not like other men.	23 La femina riceverae ogni maschio; e alcuna figliuola è meglio che il figliuolo.
24 He who acquires a wife gets his best possession, a helper fit for him and a pillar of support.	24 La bellezza della femina allegra la faccia del marito suo, e sopra ogni concupiscenza dello uomo inducerae desiderio.
25 Where there is no fence, the property will be plundered; and where there is no wife, a man will wander about and sigh.	25 S'elli è lingua di moderamento, sì è quella (della buona femina, e) di mitigagione e di misericordia; non è il marito di colei secondo i figliuoli delli uomini.
26 For who will trust a nimble robber that skips from city to city? So who will trust a man that has no home, and lodges wherever night finds him?	26 Chi ha buona moglie, incomincia la sua possessione; quella è il secondo adiutorio, e colonna sì come riposo.
	27 Dove non è la siepe, sì fie rubata la possessione; e dove non è la femi?a, gemisce lo infermo.
	28 Chi crede a colui che non ha nido, e volgesi dovunque oscurarae, sì come uno ladrone saltante di cittade in cittade?
