Proverbs 5

1 My son, be attentive to my wisdom, incline your ear to my understanding;	1 Figliuolo mio, attendi alla mia sapienza; e alla mia prudenza inclina il cor tuo,
2 that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard knowledge.	2 acciò che tu custodi le buone cogitazioni, e le tue labbra conservi in parlari prudenti. Non attender alle fallacie delle femine.
3 For the lips of a loose woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;	3 Le labbra della meretrice proferiscono dolci parole; è polita del corpo suo.
4 but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.	4 Ma nell' ultimo le cose sue sono amare, come assenzio, e crudeli come coltello tagliente da duo lati.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol;	5 Le operazioni sue tendono alla morte, e i suoi andamenti pènetrano fino allo inferno.
6 she does not take heed to the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it.	6 Non vanno per la via della vita; gli andamenti suoi sono vaghi e investigabili.
7 And now, O sons, listen to me, and do not depart from the words of my mouth.	7 Ancora, figliuolo mio, audi me; e non ti partire dalle mie parole.
8 Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house;	8 Fa che la via tua sia lontana da lei, e non ti approssimare alle porte della casa sua.
9 lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless;	9 Non dar ad altri l'onor tuo (tu fosti creato alla imagine di Dio per fruir quello, e però) non dare il tempo della vita tua al tuo avversario (cioè al diavolo, però che della tua dignitade sarai privato);
10 lest strangers take their fill of your strength, and your labors go to the house of an alien;	10 acciò che gli estranei non siano riempiti delle tue forze, e le tue fatiche siano in casa d' altrui.
11 and at the end of your life you groan, when your flesh and body are consumed,	11 (Per che chi serve al diavolo perde tutto quello lui ha fatto): e piangerai nell' ultimo, quando tu conoscerai aver consunto la carne tua e il tuo corpo; e dirai :
12 and you say, "How I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof!	12 Per che ho io detestato il buono vivere, e alle reprensioni m'erano fatte non consentii,
13 I did not listen to the voice of my teachers or incline my ear to my instructors.	13 e non udii la voce di quelli mi ammaestravano, e a' maestri non inclinai le orecchie mie?
14 I was at the point of utter ruin in the assembled congregation."	14 Io ho fatto quasi ogni male, in conspetto della chiesa e sinagoga (cioè sono stato uno ribaldo fra le genti).
15 Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well.	15 Bevi dell' acqua della cisterna tua e del pozzo tuo,
16 Should your springs be scattered abroad, streams of water in the streets?	16 (avendo donna congiunta in legittimo matrimonio, con la quale potrai licitamente adempire i retti desiderii tuoi; e a questo modo) da te usciranno fuori alcuni fonti (nella procreazione de' figliuoli), e quelli al tempo suo in pubblico li dividerai (dando a loro marito o moglie).
17 Let them be for yourself alone, and not for strangers with you.	17 E questo farai tu (perfino che sono sotto la tua potestade) acciò (non caschino in for nicazione e) gli alieni [non] siano partecipi di casa tua (nella procreazione di figliuoli non legittimi).
18 Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth,	18 Sia la tua prole benedetta, e vivi lieto con la donna la quale tu conducesti per moglie dalla adolescenza tua.
19 a lovely hind, a graceful doe. Let her affection fill you at all times with delight, be infatuated always with her love.	19 E questa donna ti sia carissima, e il figliuolo nato gratissimo; e con lei sazierai gli appetiti tuoi e desiderii onestamente, e nell' amor di quella ti deletterai ogni tempo (e non con altra donna).
20 Why should you be infatuated, my son, with a loose woman and embrace the bosom of an adventuress?	20 Per che, figliuolo mio, sarai sedotto da altra donna, e sarai gubernato nel seno d' altrui?
21 For a man's ways are before the eyes of the LORD, and he watches all his paths.	21 Guarda il Signor la via dell' uomo, e tutti i suoi andamenti (pensieri e cogitazioni) considera.
22 The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is caught in the toils of his sin.	22 L'empio sarà preso dalle iniquitadi sue, e con le funi degli suoi peccati sarà ligato.
23 He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is lost.	23 Esso morrà, per che non è stato prudente; e sarà defraudato nella moltitudine della sua stoltizia.
