1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. A Song. Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered; let those who hate him flee before him!1 [For the choirmaster Of David Psalm Song] Let God arise, let his enemies scatter, let his opponentsflee before him.
2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; as wax melts before fire, let the wicked perish before God!2 You disperse them like smoke; as wax melts in the presence of a fire, so the wicked melt at thepresence of God.
3 But let the righteous be joyful; let them exult before God; let them be jubilant with joy!3 The upright rejoice in the presence of God, delighted and crying out for joy.
4 Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds; his name is the LORD, exult before him!4 Sing to God, play music to his name, build a road for the Rider of the Clouds, rejoice in Yahweh,dance before him.
5 Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.5 Father of orphans, defender of widows, such is God in his holy dwel ing.
6 God gives the desolate a home to dwell in; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.6 God gives the lonely a home to live in, leads prisoners out into prosperity, but rebels must live in thebare wastelands.
7 O God, when thou didst go forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness, [Selah]7 God, when you set out at the head of your people, when you strode over the desert,
8 the earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain, at the presence of God; yon Sinai quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.8 the earth rocked,Pause the heavens pelted down rain at the presence of God, at the presence of God,the God of Israel.
9 Rain in abundance, O God, thou didst shed abroad; thou didst restore thy heritage as it languished;9 God, you rained down a shower of blessings, when your heritage was weary you gave it strength.
10 thy flock found a dwelling in it; in thy goodness, O God, thou didst provide for the needy.10 Your family found a home, which you in your generosity provided for the humble.
11 The Lord gives the command; great is the host of those who bore the tidings:11 The Lord gave a command, the good news of a countless army.
12 "The kings of the armies, they flee, they flee!" The women at home divide the spoil,12 The chieftains of the army are in flight, in flight, and the fair one at home is sharing out the spoils.
13 though they stay among the sheepfolds-- the wings of a dove covered with silver, its pinions with green gold.13 While you are at ease in the sheepfolds, the wings of the Dove are being covered with silver, and herfeathers with a sheen of green gold;
14 When the Almighty scattered kings there, snow fell on Zalmon.14 when Shaddai scatters the chieftains, through her it snows on the Dark Mountain.
15 O mighty mountain, mountain of Bashan; O many-peaked mountain, mountain of Bashan!15 A mountain of God, the mountain of Bashan! a haughty mountain, the mountain of Bashan!
16 Why look you with envy, O many-peaked mountain, at the mount which God desired for his abode, yea, where the LORD will dwell for ever?16 Why be envious, haughty mountains, of the mountain God has chosen for his dwel ing? There Godwil dwell for ever.
17 With mighty chariotry, twice ten thousand, thousands upon thousands, the Lord came from Sinai into the holy place.17 The chariots of God are thousand upon thousand; God has come from Sinai to the sanctuary.
18 Thou didst ascend the high mount, leading captives in thy train, and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the LORD God may dwell there.18 You have climbed the heights, taken captives, you have taken men as tribute, even rebels thatYahweh God might have a dwelling-place.
19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. [Selah]19 Blessed be the Lord day after day, he carries us along, God our Saviour.Pause
20 Our God is a God of salvation; and to GOD, the Lord, belongs escape from death.20 This God of ours is a God who saves; from Lord Yahweh comes escape from death;
21 But God will shatter the heads of his enemies, the hairy crown of him who walks in his guilty ways.21 but God smashes the head of his enemies, the long-haired skul of the prowling criminal.
22 The Lord said, "I will bring them back from Bashan, I will bring them back from the depths of the sea,22 The Lord has said, 'I wil bring them back from Bashan, I wil bring them back from the depths of thesea,
23 that you may bathe your feet in blood, that the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from the foe."23 so that you may bathe your feet in blood, and the tongues of your dogs feast on your enemies.'
24 Thy solemn processions are seen, O God, the processions of my God, my King, into the sanctuary--24 Your processions, God, are for all to see, the processions of my God, of my king, to the sanctuary;
25 the singers in front, the minstrels last, between them maidens playing timbrels:25 singers ahead, musicians behind, in the middle come girls, beating their drums.
26 "Bless God in the great congregation, the LORD, O you who are of Israel's fountain!"26 In choirs they bless God, Yahweh, since the foundation of Israel.
27 There is Benjamin, the least of them, in the lead, the princes of Judah in their throng, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.27 Benjamin was there, the youngest in front, the princes of Judah in bright-coloured robes, the princesof Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
28 Summon thy might, O God; show thy strength, O God, thou who hast wrought for us.28 Take command, my God, as befits your power, the power, God, which you have wielded for us,
29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem kings bear gifts to thee.29 from your temple high above Jerusalem. Kings wil come to you bearing tribute.
30 Rebuke the beasts that dwell among the reeds, the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples. Trample under foot those who lust after tribute; scatter the peoples who delight in war.30 Rebuke the Beast of the Reeds, that herd of bul s, that people of calves, who bow down with ingotsof silver. Scatter the people who delight in war.
31 Let bronze be brought from Egypt; let Ethiopia hasten to stretch out her hands to God.31 From Egypt nobles wil come, Ethiopia wil stretch out its hands to God.
32 Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth; sing praises to the Lord, [Selah]32 Kingdoms of the earth, sing to God, play for
33 to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; lo, he sends forth his voice, his mighty voice.33 the Rider of the Heavens, the primeval heavens.Pause There he speaks, with a voice of power!
34 Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and his power is in the skies.34 Acknowledge the power of God. Over Israel his splendour, in the clouds his power.
35 Terrible is God in his sanctuary, the God of Israel, he gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!35 Awesome is God in his sanctuary. He, the God of Israel, gives strength and power to his people.Blessed be God.
