Nehemiah 1

1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it happened in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Susa the capital,	1 Palabras de Nehemías, hijo de Jacalías. En el mes de quisleu del año veinte, estando yo en la fortaleza de Susa,
2 that Hanani, one of my brethren, came with certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that survived, who had escaped exile, and concerning Jerusalem.	2 vino Jananí, uno de mis hermanos, con algunos hombres de Judá. Yo les pregunté por los judíos escapados, salvados del destierro, y por Jerusalén.
3 And they said to me, "The survivors there in the province who escaped exile are in great trouble and shame; the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire."	3 Y me dijeron: «Los supervivientes del destierro que quedan allí, en la provincia, están pasándolo muy mal y sufriendo humillaciones. La muralla de Jerusalén está destrozada y sus puertas fueron destruidas por el fuego».
4 When I heard these words I sat down and wept, and mourned for days; and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.	4 Al oír estas palabras me senté y me puse a llorar. Hice duelo algunos días, ayunando y orando ante el Dios del cielo.
5 And I said, "O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments;	5 Y dije: «¡Oh Señor, Dios del cielo, Dios grande y terrible, que guardas la alianza y la fidelidad con los que te aman y observan tus mandamientos!
6 let thy ear be attentive, and thy eyes open, to hear the prayer of thy servant which I now pray before thee day and night for the people of Israel thy servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against thee. Yea, I and my father's house have sinned.	6 Estén tus oídos atentos y abiertos tus ojos para escuchar la plegaria de tu siervo, que yo proclamo ahora ante ti, día y noche, por los hijos de Israel, tus siervos, confesando los pecados que los hijos de Israel han cometido contra ti. Porque la casa de mi padre y yo hemos pecado.
7 We have acted very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances which thou didst command thy servant Moses.	7 Hemos obrado muy perversamente contra ti y no hemos guardado los mandamientos, las leyes y los preceptos que tú habías dado a Moisés, tu siervo.
8 Remember the word which thou didst command thy servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples;	8 Por favor, recuerda la palabra que diste a Moisés, tu siervo: “Si sois infieles, os dispersaré entre las naciones;
9 but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your dispersed be under the farthest skies, I will gather them thence and bring them to the place which I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.'	9 pero si os convertís a mí y guardáis mis mandamientos y los cumplís, aunque vuestros desterrados estuvieran en el extremo de los cielos, los recogeré de allí y los conduciré de nuevo al lugar que he escogido para morada de mi nombre”.
10 They are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power and by thy strong hand.	10 Estos son tus siervos y este tu pueblo, a quienes has redimido con tu gran poder y tu fuerte brazo.
11 O Lord, let thy ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants who delight to fear thy name; and give success to thy servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man." Now I was cupbearer to the king.	11 ¡Oh Señor!, te pido que estén atentos tus oídos a la oración de tu siervo y a la súplica de tus servidores, que quieren ser fieles a ti. Concede éxito a tu siervo y haz que tenga buena acogida ante ese hombre». En aquel momento yo era copero del rey.
