1 After these things and these acts of faithfulness Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah and encamped against the fortified cities, thinking to win them for himself.	1 Nach diesen Begebenheiten und diesen Beweisen der Treue rückte Sanherib, der König von Assur, heran. Er fiel in Juda ein, belagerte die festen Ortschaften und gedachte, sie für sich zu erobern.
2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come and intended to fight against Jerusalem,	2 Hiskia merkte, daß Sanherib heranzog und sich zum Angriffskrieg gegen Jerusalem vorbereitete.
3 he planned with his officers and his mighty men to stop the water of the springs that were outside the city; and they helped him.	3 Er beriet sich also mit seinen Fürsten und Offizieren, ob man das Wasser der Quellen außerhalb der Stadt verstopfen solle, und diese stimmten ihm zu.
4 A great many people were gathered, and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the land, saying, "Why should the kings of Assyria come and find much water?"	4 So versammelte sich viel Volk und verstopfte alle Quellen und den unterirdisch fließenden Bach. Man sagte nämlich: "Warum sollen die assyrischen Könige bei ihrem Vormarsch reiche Wassermengen vorfinden?"
5 He set to work resolutely and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised towers upon it, and outside it he built another wall; and he strengthened the Millo in the city of David. He also made weapons and shields in abundance.	5 Er strengte sich an und baute die ganze Mauer aus, die Risse erhalten hatte. Er errichtete auf ihr Türme und außerhalb die andere Mauer, befestigte den Millo, die Stadt Davids, und ließ eine Menge von Wurfwaffen und Schilden anfertigen.
6 And he set combat commanders over the people, and gathered them together to him in the square at the gate of the city and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,	6 Dann setzte er Feldherren über das Volk und versammelte sie zu sich auf dem Platz am Stadttor, redete ihnen aufmunternd zu und sprach:
7 "Be strong and of good courage. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him; for there is one greater with us than with him.	7 "Seid tapfer und stark! Fürchtet euch nicht und erschreckt nicht vor dem König von Assur und vor der ganzen Heeresmenge, die bei ihm ist! Denn bei uns ist mehr als bei ihm.
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles." And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.	8 Bei ihm ist ein Arm aus Fleisch, bei uns aber ist der Herr, unser Gott, um uns zu helfen und unsere Kriege zu führen." Das Volk ließ sich durch die Worte Hiskias, des Königs von Juda, Mut zusprechen.
9 After this Sennacherib king of Assyria, who was besieging Lachish with all his forces, sent his servants to Jerusalem to Hezekiah king of Judah and to all the people of Judah that were in Jerusalem, saying,	9 Als etwas später Sanherib, der König von Assur, mit seiner ganzen Heeresmacht vor Lachis lag, sandte er seine Untergebenen nach Jerusalem an Hiskia, den König von Juda, und an alle Judäer in Jerusalem. Er ließ bekanntmachen:
10 "Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, 'On what are you relying, that you stand siege in Jerusalem?	10 "So spricht Sanherib, der König von Assur: Worauf vertraut ihr denn, daß ihr im belagerten Jerusalem sitzen bleibt?
11 Is not Hezekiah misleading you, that he may give you over to die by famine and by thirst, when he tells you, "The LORD our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria"?	11 Ist es nicht Hiskia, der euch verführt, um euch durch Hunger und Durst dem Tod zu überantworten, wenn er sagt: Der Herr, unser Gott, wird uns aus der Hand des Königs von Assur erretten?
12 Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, "Before one altar you shall worship, and upon it you shall burn your sacrifices"?	12 Hat nicht gerade Hiskia seine Opferhöhen und Altäre beseitigt und Juda und Jerusalem befohlen: Nur vor einem einzigen Altar sollt ihr anbeten und nur auf ihm opfern?
13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands at all able to deliver their lands out of my hand?	13 Wißt ihr denn nicht, was ich und meine Väter allen Völkern der Erdenländer getan haben? Konnten denn die Volksgötter in den einzelnen Ländern ihr Land aus meiner Hand erretten?
14 Who among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed was able to deliver his people from my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my hand?	14 Wer unter allen Göttern dieser Völker, an denen meine Väter den Bann vollzogen, vermochte denn sein Volk aus meiner Hand zu erretten? Da soll nun euer Gott euch aus meiner Hand befreien können?
15 Now therefore do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you in this fashion, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand!'"	15 Wohlan, Hiskia soll euch nicht täuschen und euch nicht auf diese Art und Weise verführen! Vertraut ihm nicht! Denn kein Gott irgendeines Volkes oder Reiches konnte sein Volk aus meiner Hand und aus der meiner Väter erretten; erst recht wird euer Gott euch nicht erretten aus meiner Hand!"
16 And his servants said still more against the Lord GOD and against his servant Hezekiah.	16 Noch weitere Worte sprachen seine Untergebenen gegen den Herrn, den wahren Gott, und seinen Diener Hiskia.
17 And he wrote letters to cast contempt on the LORD the God of Israel and to speak against him, saying, "Like the gods of the nations of the lands who have not delivered their people from my hands, so the God of Hezekiah will not deliver his people from my hand."	17 Sanherib schrieb auch einen Brief, um den Herrn, den Gott Israels, zu verhöhnen und gegen ihn folgendermaßen zu lästern: "Wie die Götter der Völker in den einzelnen Ländern ihr Volk nicht aus meiner Hand befreiten, so wird auch der Gott Hiskias sein Volk aus meiner Hand nicht erretten."
18 And they shouted it with a loud voice in the language of Judah to the people of Jerusalem who were upon the wall, to frighten and terrify them, in order that they might take the city.	18 Sie riefen mit lauter Stimme auf judäisch dem Volk Jerusalems, das auf der Mauer stand, entgegen, um sie in Furcht und Schrecken zu versetzen und so die Stadt erobern zu können.
19 And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as they spoke of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men's hands.	19 Dabei redeten sie über den Gott Jerusalems in einer Art, als ob sie von den Göttern der Erdenvölker, den Gebilden von Menschenhand, sprächen.
20 Then Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried to heaven.	20 Doch König Hiskia und der Prophet Isaias, der Sohn des Amoz, beteten in diesem Anliegen und schrieen zum Himmel empor.
21 And the LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.	21 Der Herr aber sandte einen Engel, und dieser vernichtete alle Kriegshelden, Heerführer und Feldherrn im Lager des Assyrerkönigs. Er mußte voller Schande in seine Heimat zurückkehren. Als er einmal in das Haus seines Gottes ging, schlugen ihn dort seine eigenen Söhne mit dem Schwert nieder.
22 So the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all his enemies; and he gave them rest on every side.	22 So befreite der Herr den Hiskia und die Bewohner Jerusalems aus der Gewalt Sanheribs, des assyrischen Königs, und aus der Gewalt aller anderen. Er verschaffte ihnen ringsum Ruhe.
23 And many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from that time onward.	23 Viele brachten Gaben für den Herrn nach Jerusalem und kostbare Geschenke für Hiskia, den König von Juda. Er war von da ab hochgeehrt in den Augen aller Völker.
24 In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death, and he prayed to the LORD; and he answered him and gave him a sign.	24 In jenen Tagen wurde Hiskia auf den Tod krank. Er betete zum Herrn, und dieser erhörte ihn und gab ihm ein Wunderzeichen.
25 But Hezekiah did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart was proud. Therefore wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem.	25 Doch Hiskia war für die empfangenen Wohltaten nicht dankbar; denn sein Herz wurde hochmütig. Deshalb drohte ein Zorngericht über ihn, über Juda und Jerusalem hereinzubrechen.
26 But Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.	26 Nun aber demütigte sich Hiskia in seinem Hochmut, er und die Bewohner Jerusalems. So ereilte sie das Zorngericht des Herrn noch nicht in den Tagen des Hiskia.
27 And Hezekiah had very great riches and honor; and he made for himself treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of costly vessels;	27 Hiskia bekam Reichtümer und Ehren in hohem Maße. Er erwarb sich Schätze an Silber, Gold, Edelsteinen, Duftgewürzen, Schilden und allerlei Schmuckgegenständen.
28 storehouses also for the yield of grain, wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and sheepfolds.	28 Ferner machte er Vorratsräume für den Ertrag an Getreide, Most und Öl, dazu Ställe für jede Art von Vieh.
29 He likewise provided cities for himself, and flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very great possessions.	29 Er hatte sich nämlich Herden erworben, Bestände an Klein- und Großvieh in Menge; denn Gott hatte ihm sehr reichen Besitz verliehen.
30 This same Hezekiah closed the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.	30 Hiskia war es auch, der den oberen Abfluß des Gischonwassers verstopfte und es nach Westen in die Stadt Davids hinableitete. Hiskia hatte Erfolg bei all seinem Tun.
31 And so in the matter of the envoys of the princes of Babylon, who had been sent to him to inquire about the sign that had been done in the land, God left him to himself, in order to try him and to know all that was in his heart.	31 Genauso war es anläßlich der Unterhändler, welche die babylonischen Herren um Auskunft über das Zeichen, das im Lande geschehen war, an ihn gesandt hatten: Gott ließ ihn ruhig gewähren, um ihn auf die Probe zu stellen und seine ganze Herzensgesinnung kennenzulernen.
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.	32 Die übrige Geschichte Hiskias und seine frommen Taten sind niedergeschrieben in der Offenbarung des Propheten Isaias, des Sohnes des Amoz, und im Buch der Könige von Juda und Israel.
33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.	33 Hiskia entschlief zu seinen Vätern, und man begrub ihn an bevorzugter Stelle in der Grabstätte der Söhne Davids. Bei seinem Tod erwiesen ihm ganz Juda und die Einwohner Jerusalems die letzte Ehre. Sein Sohn Manasse folgte ihm in der Königsherrschaft.
