1 And so we are making known to you, brothers, the grace of God that has been given in the churches of Macedonia.	1 Vogliamo ora farvi conoscere, o fratelli, la grazia che Dio ha concesso ai fedeli delle Chiese della Macedonia.
2 For within a great experience of tribulation, they have had an abundance of joy, and their profound poverty has only increased the richness of their simplicity.	2 In mezzo a tribolazioni che grandemente li provarono, la loro gioia traboccante e la loro pur grande povertà si profuse nelle ricche elargizioni della loro generosità.
3 And I bear witness to them, that they were willing to accept what was in accord with their ability, and even what was beyond their ability.	3 Poiché, lo posso attestare, essi secondo le loro possibilità, anzi al di là delle loro possibilità e in modo del tutto spontaneo,
4 For they were begging us, with great exhortation, for the grace and the communication of the ministry that is with the saints.	4 ci hanno chiesto insistentemente la grazia di prendere parte al servizio in favore dei santi.
5 And this is beyond what we had hoped, since they gave themselves, first of all to the Lord, and then also to us, through the will of God,	5 E non soltanto fecero come ci eravamo aspettato, ma offrirono anche se stessi prima al Signore e poi a noi, per volere di Dio.
6 so much so that we petitioned Titus, that in the same manner as he had begun, he would also complete in you this same grace.	6 Sicchè abbiamo pregato Tito, che già precedentemente aveva cominciato, affinché conduca a buon termine anche presso di voi quest’opera di grazia.
7 But, just as in all things you abound in faith and in word and in knowledge and in all solicitude, and even more so in your charity toward us, so also may you abound in this grace.	7 Orbene, come siete eminenti in tutto: nella fede, nella parola, nella conoscenza, in ogni forma di sollecitudine e nella carità che abbiamo in voi acceso, dovete altresì essere eminenti in questa opera di grazia.
8 I am speaking, not commanding. But through the solicitude of others, I approve of the good character of your charity.	8 Non dico questo per dare un comando, ma per mettere ancora alla prova, servendomi della sollecitudine degli altri, la genuinità della vostra carità.
9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that through his poverty, you might become rich.	9 Conoscete, infatti, l’opera di grazia del Signore nostro, Gesù Cristo: per voi egli, ricco, qual era, si fece povero per arricchire voi mediante la sua povertà.
10 And about this, I give my counsel. For this is useful to those of you who, only a year earlier, had just begun to act, or even to be willing to act.	10 Vi do dunque solo un consiglio in questa materia, come a voi s’addice, essendo stati voi, fin dall’anno scorso, non solo a cominciare la colletta ma anche a progettarla.
11 So, truly now, accomplish this in deed, so that, in the same manner as your willing mind is prompted, you may also act, out of that which you have.	11 Ora però dovete anche portarla a termine, affinché quanto foste pronti nel volere, altrettanto lo siate nell’esecuzione secondo le vostre possibilità.
12 For when the will is prompted, it receives according to what that person has, not according to what that person does not have.	12 Perché quando c’è la buona volontà, essa è bene accetta e in proporzione a ciò che si ha, non a ciò che non si ha.
13 And it is not that others should be relieved, while you are troubled, but that there should be an equality.	13 Non si pretende certo che vi riduciate in strettezze per alleviare gli altri, ma che, per principio di eguaglianza,
14 In this present time, let your abundance supply their need, so that their abundance may also supply your need, in order that there may be an equality, just as it was written:	14 ciò che nel momento attuale avete in soprappiù serva a soccorrere l’indigenza degli altri, affinché a sua volta il soprappiù degli altri torni a vantaggio della vostra indigenza, e così si abbia l'eguaglianza.
15 “He with more did not have too much; and he with less did not have too little.”	15 Così sta scritto: Chi molto ne raccolse, non ne ebbe di più, e chi poco, non ne ebbe di meno.
16 But thanks be to God, who has granted to the heart of Titus, this same solicitude for you.	16 Siano rese grazie a Dio che infonde la medesima sollecitudine a vostro favore nel cuore di Tito.
17 For certainly, he accepted the exhortation. But since he was more solicitous, he went to you of his own free will.	17 Egli ha senza dubbio accolto il nostro invito, ma pieno di premura com’è, viene da voi di sua propria scelta.
18 And we have even sent with him a brother whose praise accompanies the Gospel throughout all the churches.	18 Mandiamo inoltre insieme con lui anche quel fratello le cui lodi, meritate nella predicazione dell’evangelo, risuonano per tutte le Chiese,
19 And not only that, but he was also chosen by the churches to be a companion for our sojourn in this grace, which is ministered by us with our determined will, to the glory of the Lord.	19 e che, per giunta, fu eletto dalle Chiese a mano alzata nostro compagno di viaggio per quest'opera di carità alla quale ci applichiamo come ministri per la gloria di Dio e per nostra inclinazione.
20 So let us avoid this, lest anyone disparage us over the abundance that is ministered by us.	20 Vogliamo evitare il rischio che qualcuno in questa lauta colletta, a cui prestiamo opera nostra di ministri, possa muoverci rimproveri.
21 For we provide for what is good, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of men.	21 Sì, ci diamo pensiero di fare opere buone non solamente dinanzi al Signore, ma anche dinanzi agli uomini.
22 And we have also sent with them our brother, whom we have proven to be frequently solicitous in many matters. But now there is a greater solicitousness, which is greatly entrusted to you;	22 Mandiamo ancora con essi quel fratello nostro, di cui abbiamo sperimentato spesso la sollecitudine in molte occasioni e che ora è molto più zelante per la grande fiducia che ha in voi.
23 and whether it concerns Titus, who is a companion to me and a helper to you, or whether it concerns our brothers, the Apostles of the churches, it is to the glory of Christ.	23 Se si tratta dunque di Tito, è egli un mio compagno e mio collaboratore nell’apostolato tra voi; se si tratta degli altri nostri fratelli, sono inviati delle Chiese, una gloria di Cristo.
24 Therefore, in the sight of the churches, show them the proof of your charity and of our glorying about you.	24 Date allora ad essi, al cospetto delle Chiese, la prova della vostra carità e giustificate la nostra fierezza riguardo a voi.
