1 Then, on the first Sabbath, at very first light, they went to the tomb, carrying the aromatic spices that they had prepared.	1 Il primo giorno della settimana, all’alba,
2 And they found the stone rolled back from the tomb.	2 esse vennero al sepolcro, portando gli aromi che avevano preparato; Trovarono la pietra del sepolcro ribaltata;
3 And upon entering, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.	3 entrate poi dentro, non trovarono il corpo del Signore Gesù.
4 And it happened that, while their minds were still confused about this, behold, two men stood beside them, in shining apparel.	4 Mentre non sapevano che pensare di ciò, ecco che due uomini, in abiti sfolgoranti, si presentarono a loro.
5 Then, since they were afraid and were turning their faces toward the ground, these two said to them: “Why do you seek the living with the dead?	5 Standosene esse intimorite e con la faccia chinata a terra, dissero loro: «Perché cercate tra i morti colui che vive?
6 He is not here, for he has risen. Recall how he spoke to you, when he was still in Galilee,	6 Non è qui, ma è risorto. Ricordatevi di ciò che vi disse quando era ancora in Galilea:
7 saying: ‘For the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.’ ”	7 che il Figlio dell’uomo doveva esser dato nelle mani dei peccatori e crocifisso e risorgere il terzo giorno».
8 And they called to mind his words.	8 Allora esse ricordarono frane parole,
9 And returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the eleven, and to all the others.	9 e, tornate dal sepolcro, annunziarono ogni cosa agli undici e a tutti gli altri.
10 Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women who were with them, who told these things to the Apostles.	10 Erano Maria la Maddalena, Giovanna e Maria di Giacomo. Anche le altre che erano con loro dicevano queste cose agli apostoli.
11 But these words seemed to them a delusion. And so they did not believe them.	11 Ma tali parole parvero a quelli quasi un vaneggiamento, e non credevano ad esse.
12 But Peter, rising up, ran to the tomb. And stooping down, he saw the linen cloths positioned alone, and he went away wondering to himself about what had happened.	12 Pietro, però, si mosse e corse al sepolcro. Si affacciò e vide soltanto i pannilini; e ritornò a casa pieno di meraviglia per l’accaduto.
13 And behold, two of them went out, on the same day, to a town named Emmaus, which was the distance of sixty stadia from Jerusalem.	13 Quel giorno stesso, due di loro erano incamminati verso un villaggio di nome Emmaus, distante da Gerusalemme sessanta stadi,
14 And they spoke to one another about all of these things that had occurred.	14 e discorrevan tra loro di tutti questi avvenimenti.
15 And it happened that, while they were speculating and questioning within themselves, Jesus himself, drawing near, traveled with them.	15 Mentre discorrevano e discutevano insieme, Gesù in persona si avvicinò e si accompagnò a loro;
16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they would not recognize him.	16 ma i loro occhi non potevano riconoscerlo.
17 And he said to them, “What are these words, which you are discussing with one another, as you walk and are sad?”	17 E disse loro: «Quali sono i discorsi che vi scambiate cammin facendo?» E si fermarono, tristi.
18 And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, responded by saying to him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”	18 Uno di essi, di nome Cleofa, gli rispose: «Tu solo sei così forestiero in Gerusalemme che non conosci ciò che è accaduto in questi giorni?»
19 And he said to them, “What things?” And they said, “About Jesus of Nazareth, who was a noble prophet, powerful in works and in words, before God and all the people.	19 Ed egli a loro: «Che cosa?» Quelli gli dissero: «Ciò che è accaduto a Gesù di Nazaret, che fu profeta potente in opere e parole innanzi a Dio e a tutto il popolo:
20 And how our high priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death. And they crucified him.	20 come i gran sacerdoti e i notabili nostri lo hanno fatto condannare a morte e lo hanno crocifisso.
21 But we were hoping that he would be the Redeemer of Israel. And now, on top of all this, today is the third day since these things have happened.	21 Noi speravamo che egli fosse colui che deve liberare Israele; ma, con tutto ciò, questo è il terzo giorno che tali cose sono accadute.
22 Then, too, certain women from among us terrified us. For before daytime, they were at the tomb,	22 Ma anche alcune donne dei nostri ci hanno sconvolto: essendo state all’alba al sepolcro
23 and, having not found his body, they returned, saying that they had even seen a vision of Angels, who said that he is alive.	23 e non avendo trovato il corpo di lui, son tornate dicendo d’aver veduto una visione di angeli, i quali dicono che egli è vivo.
24 And some of us went out to the tomb. And they found it just as the women had said. But truly, they did not find him.”	24 Alcuni dei nostri sono andati al sepolcro, e hanno trovato le cose appunto come avevan detto le donne, ma lui non lo hanno veduto».
25 And he said to them: “How foolish and reluctant in heart you are, to believe everything that has been spoken by the Prophets!	25 Allora Gesù disse loro: «O insensati e tardi di cuore a credere tutto ciò che hanno detto i profeti!
26 Was not the Christ required to suffer these things, and so enter into his glory?”	26 Non doveva forse il Messia patire tali cose e così entrare nella sua gloria?»
27 And beginning from Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them, in all the Scriptures, the things that were about him.	27 E, cominciando da Mosè e continuando per tutti i profeti, interpretò ad essi, in tutte le Scritture, quanto lo riguardava.
28 And they drew near to the town were they were going. And he conducted himself so as to go on further.	28 Quando furon vicini al villaggio verso il quale erano incamminati, egli fece mostra di andare più lontano.
29 But they were insistent with him, saying, “Remain with us, because it is toward evening and now daylight is declining.” And so he entered with them.	29 Ma quelli lo costrinsero dicendo: «Resta con noi, poiché si fa sera e il giorno è già alla fine». Ed entrò per restare con loro.
30 And it happened that, while he was at table with them, he took bread, and he blessed and broke it, and he extended it to them.	30 Mentre egli era adagiato a mensa con loro, prese il pane, recitò la benedizione, e lo spezzò e lo offriva ad essi.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their eyes.	31 Allora si aprirono i loro occhi e lo riconobbero, ma egli scomparve dalla loro vista.
32 And they said to one another, “Was not our heart burning within us, while he was speaking on the way, and when he opened the Scriptures to us?”	32 E si dissero l’un l’altro: «Non era forse ardente il nostro cuore in noi quando ci parlava sulla strada e ci spiegava le Scritture?»
33 And rising up at that same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,	33 In quell’ora stessa si levarono e tornarono a Gerusalemme, e trovarono riuniti gli undici e quelli ch’eran con loro, i quali dicevano;
34 saying: “In truth, the Lord has risen, and he has appeared to Simon.”	34 «Realmente è risorto il Signore ed è apparso a Simone!»
35 And they explained the things that were done on the way, and how they had recognized him at the breaking of the bread.	35 Anch’essi raccontavano ciò che era accaduto per via e come lo avevano riconosciuto nell’atto di spezzare il pane.
36 Then, while they were talking about these things, Jesus stood in their midst, And he said to them: “Peace be with you. It is I. Do not be afraid.”	36 Mentre parlavano di queste cose, Gesù in persona comparve in mezzo a loro e disse: «Pace a voi!»
37 Yet truly, they were very disturbed and terrified, supposing that they saw a spirit.	37 Stupiti e atterriti essi credevano di vedere uno spirito.
38 And he said to them: “Why are you disturbed, and why do these thoughts rise up in your hearts?	38 Ed egli disse loro: «Perché vi turbate? Perché sorgono dubbi nel vostro cuore?
39 See my hands and feet, that it is I myself. Look and touch. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”	39 Guardate le mie mani e i miei piedi: sono proprio io! Toccatemi e constatate: uno spirito non ha carne ed ossa, come vedete che ho io».
40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.	40 E ciò detto mostrò loro le mani ed i piedi.
41 Then, while they were still in disbelief and in wonder out of joy, he said, “Do you have anything here to eat?”	41 E siccome, per la gioia, essi non credevano ancora ed erano stupefatti, disse loro: «Avete qui qualche cosa da mangiare?»
42 And they offered him a piece of roasted fish and a honeycomb.	42 Gli diedero una parte di pesce arrostito:
43 And when he had eaten these in their sight, taking up what was left, he gave it to them.	43 ed egli lo prese e ne mangiò sotto gli occhi di tutti.
44 And he said to them: “These are the words that I spoke to you when I was still with you, because all things must be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms about me.”	44 Poi disse: «Proprio questo volevan dire i discorsi che vi facevo quando ero ancora con voi: si deve adempiere tutto ciò che, nella Legge di Mosè, nei Profeti e nei Salmi, sta scritto di me».
45 Then he opened their mind, so that they might understand the Scriptures.	45 Allora aprì la loro mente alla intelligenza delle Scritture;
46 And he said to them: “For so it is written, and so it was necessary, for the Christ to suffer and to rise up from the dead on the third day,	46 e disse: «Così sta scritto: che il Messia deve patire e risorgere dai morti il terzo giorno,
47 and, in his name, for repentance and the remission of sins to be preached, among all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.	47 e che nel suo nome sarà predicata la penitenza e il perdono dei peccati a tutte le genti, a cominciare da Gerusalemme.
48 And you are witnesses of these things.	48 Voi siete testimoni di queste cose.
49 And I am sending the Promise of my Father upon you. But you must stay in the city, until such time as you are clothed with power from on high.”	49 Ed ecco, io mando su di voi quello che il Padre mio ha promesso; e voi rimanete in città, finché non siate investiti di forza dall’alto».
50 Then he led them out as far as Bethania. And lifting up his hands, he blessed them.	50 Poi li condusse fin verso Bethania, e, levate le mani, li benedisse.
51 And it happened that, while he was blessing them, he withdrew from them, and he was carried up into heaven.	51 E, mentre li benediceva, si separò da loro e veniva portato su nel cielo.
52 And worshiping, they returned to Jerusalem with great joy.	52 Ed essi, adoratolo, tornarono a Gerusalemme pieni di gioia,
53 And they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.	53 e stavano di continuo nel tempio, lodando e benedicendo Dio.
