Then, on the first Sabbath, at very first light, they went to the tomb, carrying the aromatic spices that they had prepared.1 - Ma il primo giorno della settimana, la mattina di buon'ora, esse vennero al sepolcro, portando gli aromi che avevan preparato.
And they found the stone rolled back from the tomb.2 E trovarono rotolata la pietra del sepolcro.
And upon entering, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.3 Entrate, non trovarono il corpo del signore Gesù.
And it happened that, while their minds were still confused about this, behold, two men stood beside them, in shining apparel.4 E mentre stavano costernate di ciò, ecco apparire innanzi a loro due uomini vestiti con abiti sfolgoranti,
Then, since they were afraid and were turning their faces toward the ground, these two said to them: “Why do you seek the living with the dead?5 i quali, mentre esse impaurite chinavano il viso a terra, dissero loro: «Perchè cercate tra i morti il vivente?
He is not here, for he has risen. Recall how he spoke to you, when he was still in Galilee,6 Egli non è qui, è risorto; rammentatevi di quanto vi ha detto, mentre era ancora in Galilea,
saying: ‘For the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.’ ”7 quando vi diceva: - È necessario che il Figliuol dell'uomo sia dato nelle mani di uomini peccatori e sia crocifisso e il terzo giorno risorga -».
And they called to mind his words.8 Esse allora si rammentarono delle parole di lui.
And returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the eleven, and to all the others.9 Tornate dal sepolcro, raccontarono tutte queste cose agli Undici e agli altri.
Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women who were with them, who told these things to the Apostles.10 Ora quelle che annunziarono queste cose agli apostoli erano: Maria Maddalena, Giovanna, Maria, madre di Giacomo, e le altre donne che erano con loro.
But these words seemed to them a delusion. And so they did not believe them.11 Ma quelle parole parvero ad essi come un vaneggiamento, e non prestarono loro fede.
But Peter, rising up, ran to the tomb. And stooping down, he saw the linen cloths positioned alone, and he went away wondering to himself about what had happened.12 Pietro però, levatosi, corse al sepolcro; ed essendosi chinato a guardare, non vide altro che le bende; e se n'andò meravigliandosi tra sè per il fatto.
And behold, two of them went out, on the same day, to a town named Emmaus, which was the distance of sixty stadia from Jerusalem.13 Quel giorno stesso, due di loro, se ne andarono a un villaggio, chiamato Emmaus, distante da Gerusalemme sessanta stadi.
And they spoke to one another about all of these things that had occurred.14 Ragionavan tra loro intorno a quel che era successo.
And it happened that, while they were speculating and questioning within themselves, Jesus himself, drawing near, traveled with them.15 E mentre ragionavano e discutevano insieme, Gesù stesso si accostò e si mise a camminare con loro.
But their eyes were restrained, so that they would not recognize him.16 Ma i loro occhi erano impediti così da non riconoscerlo.
And he said to them, “What are these words, which you are discussing with one another, as you walk and are sad?”17 Domandò loro: «Di che cosa discorrevate, cammin facendo? E perchè siete così malinconici?».
And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, responded by saying to him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”18 Uno dei due, chiamato Cleofa, rispose: «Tu solo stando in Gerusalemme, non sai quanto è accaduto colà in questi giorni?».
And he said to them, “What things?” And they said, “About Jesus of Nazareth, who was a noble prophet, powerful in works and in words, before God and all the people.19 Egli domandò loro: «Cosa mai?». Gli risposero: «Il fatto di Gesù di Nazaret, che era un profeta potente in opere e in parole dinanzi a Dio e a tutto il popolo;
And how our high priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death. And they crucified him.20 e come i principi dei Sacerdoti e i nostri magistrati l'han fatto condannare a morte e l'hanno crocifisso.
But we were hoping that he would be the Redeemer of Israel. And now, on top of all this, today is the third day since these things have happened.21 Ora noi speravamo che egli fosse per salvare Israele; invece, con tutto ciò, eccoci al terzo giorno da che queste cose sono avvenute.
Then, too, certain women from among us terrified us. For before daytime, they were at the tomb,22 Veramente alcune donne, delle nostre, ci hanno fatto stupire; essendo andate innanzi giorno al sepolcro
and, having not found his body, they returned, saying that they had even seen a vision of Angels, who said that he is alive.23 e non avendo trovato il corpo di lui, son venute a dirci d'essere state testimoni d'una visione di angeli, che lo dicono vivo.
And some of us went out to the tomb. And they found it just as the women had said. But truly, they did not find him.”24 Alcuni dei nostri sono andati al sepolcro e hanno trovato la cosa come le donne avevan detto: ma lui non l'han visto».
And he said to them: “How foolish and reluctant in heart you are, to believe everything that has been spoken by the Prophets!25 Ed egli disse loro: «O stolti e tardi di cuore a credere a tutte le cose che i profeti hanno detto!
Was not the Christ required to suffer these things, and so enter into his glory?”26 Non doveva forse il Cristo patire tali cose e così entrare nella sua gloria?».
And beginning from Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them, in all the Scriptures, the things that were about him.27 E cominciando da Mosè e da tutti i Profeti spiegava loro in tutte le Scritture, le cose che si riferivano a lui.
And they drew near to the town were they were going. And he conducted himself so as to go on further.28 Giunti presso al villaggio ove andavano, egli fece finta d'andar più lontano.
But they were insistent with him, saying, “Remain with us, because it is toward evening and now daylight is declining.” And so he entered with them.29 Ma essi gli fecero forza, dicendo: «Resta con noi, che si fa sera e il giorno già declina». Egli entrò con quelli.
And it happened that, while he was at table with them, he took bread, and he blessed and broke it, and he extended it to them.30 Quando fu a tavola con loro, prese il pane, lo benedisse, lo spezzò e lo porse ai discepoli.
And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their eyes.31 Allora si aprirono gli occhi loro e lo riconobbero; ma egli sparì ai loro sguardi.
And they said to one another, “Was not our heart burning within us, while he was speaking on the way, and when he opened the Scriptures to us?”32 E si dissero l'uno all'altro: «Non ci ardeva forse il cuore in petto, mentre per istrada ci parlava e ci spiegava le Scritture?».
And rising up at that same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,33 E senza por tempo in mezzo si levarono, tornarono a Gerusalemme e trovarono adunati gli Undici e gli altri che erano con loro,
saying: “In truth, the Lord has risen, and he has appeared to Simon.”34 i quali dissero: «Il Signore è veramente risorto, ed è apparso a Simone».
And they explained the things that were done on the way, and how they had recognized him at the breaking of the bread.35 Ed essi pure raccontarono quello ch'era avvenuto per la via e come l'avevano riconosciuto nello spezzare il pane.
Then, while they were talking about these things, Jesus stood in their midst, And he said to them: “Peace be with you. It is I. Do not be afraid.”36 Mentre discorrevan di queste cose, Gesù apparve in mezzo a loro e disse: «La pace sia con voi! Sono io, non temete!».
Yet truly, they were very disturbed and terrified, supposing that they saw a spirit.37 Ma essi turbati e smarriti, credevano di vedere uno spirito.
And he said to them: “Why are you disturbed, and why do these thoughts rise up in your hearts?38 Ed egli disse loro: «Perchè vi turbate e quali dubbi sorgono nel vostro cuore?
See my hands and feet, that it is I myself. Look and touch. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”39 Guardate le mie mani e i miei piedi; sono proprio io; palpatemi e guardate; perchè lo spirito non ha carne e ossa come vedete che io ho in questo momento».
And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.40 E detto questo, mostrò loro le mani e i piedi.
Then, while they were still in disbelief and in wonder out of joy, he said, “Do you have anything here to eat?”41 Ma siccome stentavano a credere ed erano pieni di meraviglia, chiese loro: «Non avete nulla da mangiare?».
And they offered him a piece of roasted fish and a honeycomb.42 Gli offrirono un pezzo di pesce arrostito e un favo di miele.
And when he had eaten these in their sight, taking up what was left, he gave it to them.43 E dopo aver mangiato davanti ad essi, prese gli avanzi e li diede a loro.
And he said to them: “These are the words that I spoke to you when I was still with you, because all things must be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms about me.”44 Poi disse loro: «Questi sono i discorsi, che io vi facevo quando ero ancora con voi; cioè esser necessario che tutte le cose scritte di me nella Legge di Mosè, nei Profeti e nei Salmi fossero adempite».
Then he opened their mind, so that they might understand the Scriptures.45 Allora aprì loro la mente a intendere la Scrittura,
And he said to them: “For so it is written, and so it was necessary, for the Christ to suffer and to rise up from the dead on the third day,46 e disse: «Così sta scritto: Il Cristo deve patire e il terzo giorno risorgere da morte
and, in his name, for repentance and the remission of sins to be preached, among all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.47 e nel suo nome si predicherà la penitenza per la remissione dei peccati a tutte le genti cominciando da Gerusalemme .
And you are witnesses of these things.48 Ora voi siete testimoni di queste cose.
And I am sending the Promise of my Father upon you. But you must stay in the city, until such time as you are clothed with power from on high.”49 Ed ecco io rimetto in voi la promessa del Padre mio, ma voi restate in questa città finchè siate rivestiti di potenza dall'alto».
Then he led them out as far as Bethania. And lifting up his hands, he blessed them.50 Poi li condusse fuori fin presso Betania, e alzate le mani, li benedisse.
And it happened that, while he was blessing them, he withdrew from them, and he was carried up into heaven.51 Mentre li benediceva, si staccò da loro e si sollevò su nel cielo.
And worshiping, they returned to Jerusalem with great joy.52 Ed essi, adoratolo, tornarono a Gerusalemme con grande allegrezza; e stavano continuamente nel tempio a lodare e benedire Dio. Amen.
And they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
