Hosea 8

1 Let there be a trumpet in your throat, like an eagle over the house of the Lord, on behalf of those who have transgressed my covenant and violated my law.	1 Al tuo palato la tromba! Come un’aquila sulla casa di Jahvè. Poiché hanno trasgredito la mia alleanza, sono stati infedeli alla mia legge.
2 They will call on me: “O my God, we, Israel, know you.”	2 Levano il grido verso di me: «Ti conosciamo, Dio di Israele!»
3 Israel has thrown away goodness; the enemy will overtake him.	3 Israele ha rigettato il bene: il nemico lo perseguiterà.
4 They have reigned, but not by me. Leaders have emerged, and I did not recognize them. Their silver and their gold, they have made into idols for themselves, so that they might cross over.	4 Essi si sono creati dei re ma non da parte mia; si sono scelti dei capi senza che io ne sapessi nulla. Con il loro argento e il loro oro si sono fatti idoli, per essere sterminati.
5 Your calf, Samaria, has been rejected. My fury has been enraged against them. How long will they be incapable of being cleansed?	5 lo respingo il tuo vitello, Samaria: il mio sdegno si è acceso contro di loro. Fino a quando riusciranno a mantenersi esenti dalla pena?
6 For it is itself also from Israel: a workman made it, and it is not God. For the calf of Samaria will be used for the webs of spiders.	6 Poiché esso è da Israele: l’ha fatto un operaio: è un non-dio quello; anzi, sarà ridotto in frantumi il vitello di Samaria.
7 For they will sow wind and reap a whirlwind. It does not have a firm stalk; the bud will yield no grain. But if it does yield, strangers will eat it.	7 Poiché essi hanno seminato vento e mieteranno tempesta; uno stelo senza germoglio non fa farina: se per caso ne fa, gli estranei la fanno sparire.
8 Israel has been devoured. Now, among the nations, it has become like an unclean vessel.	8 È fatto sparire Israele. Ora sono fra i popoli come un vaso cui non si annette alcun valore.
9 For they have gone up to Assur, a wild ass alone by himself. Ephraim has given presents to his lovers.	9 Poiché proprio essi sono saliti in Assiria — Efraim se ne sta solo soletto — hanno prezzolato degli amanti.
10 But even when they will have brought the nations together for the sake of money, now I will assemble them. And they will rest for a little while from the burden of the king and the leaders.	10 Anche se li hanno prezzolati tra le genti, ora li metterò insieme io: e cesseranno per un po’ di ronzare re e capi.
11 For Ephraim multiplied altars to sin, and sanctuaries have become an offense for him.	11 Efraim si è ammucchiato altari, per il peccato gli sono serviti gli altari.
12 I will write to him my intricate laws, which have been treated like strangers.	12 Gli scrivo, sì, le molte mie leggi, ma furono ritenute come cosa estranea.
13 They will offer victims, they will immolate flesh and will eat, and the Lord will not accept them. For now he will remember their iniquity, and he will repay their sins: they will be turned back to Egypt.	13 Perciò se sacrificano vittime e mangiano carne, ora mi ricorderò della loro colpa e punirò il loro peccato. Essi torneranno in Egitto e tra gli Assiri mangeranno il pane immondo.
14 And Israel has forgotten his Maker and has built shrines. And Judah has increased its fortified cities. And I will send fire upon his cities, and it will devour its structures.	14 Israele ha dimenticato il suo creatore e ha edificato palazzi, e Giuda ha fatto molte città fortificate. Ma io manderò il fuoco nelle città dell’uno ed esso consumerà i palazzi dell’altro.
