Proverbs 22

1 A good name is better than many riches. And good esteem is above silver and gold.	1 Mais vale o bom nome do que muitas riquezas; a boa reputação é mais estimável do que a prata e o oiro. O rico e o pobre encontram-se; o Senhor criou-os a ambos.
2 The rich and poor have met one another. The Lord is the maker of them both.
3 The clever saw evil and hid himself. The innocent continued on and was afflicted with damage.	3 O homem prudente viu o mal e furtou-se a ele; o imprudente passou adiante, e recebeu o dano.
4 The end of moderation is the fear of the Lord, riches and glory and life.	4 O prêmio da humildade é o temor do Senhor, as riquezas, a glória e a vida.
5 Weapons and swords are on the way of the perverse. But he who guards his own soul withdraws far from them.	5 Espinhos e laços estão sobre o caminho do perverso; aquele porém que guarda a sua alma, retira-se para longe deles.
6 The proverb is: A youth is close to his way; even when he is old, he will not withdraw from it.	6 Ensina à criança o caminho que deve seguir, que não se afastará dele, mesmo quando envelhecer.
7 The rich rule over the poor. And the borrower is servant to the lender.	7 O rico manda os pobres, e o que toma emprestado torna-se escravo do que lhe empresta.
8 Whoever sows iniquity will reap evils, and by the rod of his own wrath he will be consumed.	8 Aquele que semeia a iniquidade, colherá males, e será ferido pela (própria) vara da sua ira.
9 Whoever is inclined to mercy shall be blessed, for from his bread he has given to the poor. Whoever gives gifts will acquire victory and honor. But he carries away the soul of the receiver.	9 Aquele que é propenso à misericórdia, será abençoado, porque deu dos seus pães ao pobre.
10 Cast out the one who ridicules, and conflict will go out with him, and accusations and insults will cease.	10 Lança fora o mofador, e com ele se irá a discórdia, cessarão os litígios e os ultrajes.
11 Whoever loves cleanness of heart, because of the grace of his lips, will have the king as his friend.	11 Aquele que ama a pureza do coração, terá o rei por amigo, por causa da graça do seu falar.
12 The eyes of the Lord watch over knowledge. And the words of the iniquitous are supplanted.	12 Os olhos do Senhor guardam a ciência, mas as palavras do pérfido são por ele confundidas.
13 The lazy one says: “There is a lion outside. I might be slain in the midst of the streets.”	13 O preguiçoso diz: Está um leão la fora; (se saio) serei morto no meio das ruas.
14 The mouth of a foreign woman is a deep pit; the Lord was angry with him who will fall into it.	14 A boca da mulher corrupta é uma cova profunda; aquele contra quem o Senhor está irado, cairá nela.
15 Foolishness has been bound to the heart of a child, and a rod of discipline shall cause it to flee.	15 A loucura está pegada ao coração da criança, mas a vara da disciplina a afugentará.
16 Whoever slanders the poor, so as to augment his own riches, will give it away to one who is richer, and will be in need.	16 Oprimir o pobre é enriquecê-lo; dar ao rico é empobrecê-lo.
17 Incline your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Then apply your heart to my doctrine.	17 Inclina o teu ouvido e ouve as palavras dos sábios, introdução, aplica o teu coração à minha doutrina,
18 It shall be beautiful to you, if you preserve it in your inner self, and it shall overflow from your lips,	18 a qual te agradará, quando a guardará dentro do teu coração, e ela trasbordará dos teus lábios.
19 so that your confidence may be in the Lord. Therefore, I also have revealed it to you this day.	19 Para que ponhas no Senhor a tua confiança, quero ensinar-te hoje os seus caminhos.
20 Behold, I have written it for you in three ways, and with meditations and knowledge,	20 Muitas vezes te escrevi conselhos e instruções,
21 so that I might reveal to you, firmly and with words of truth, in order to respond about these things to those who sent you.	21 para te ensinar a verdade das coisas certas, para que, com palavras exactas, saibas responder àqueles que te enviam. Não faças violência ao pobre, porque é pobre, não oprimas às portas (da cidade) o que não tem nada,
22 Do not act with violence toward the pauper because he is poor. And do not weary the needy at the gate.
23 For the Lord will judge his case, and he will pierce those who have pierced his soul.	23 porque o Senhor defenderá a sua causa, e tirará a vida aos que os despojaram.
24 Do not be willing to be a friend to an angry man, and do not walk with a furious man,	24 Não tenhas amizade com o homem colérico, nem andes com o iracundo,
25 lest perhaps you learn his ways, and take up a stumbling block to your soul.	25 para não suceder que aprendas as suas veredas e dês à tua alma ocasião de ruína.
26 Do not be willing to be with those who certify with their hands, and who offer themselves as a guarantee against debts.	26 Não te associes com aqueles que (imprudentemente) se obrigam, apertando as mãos, que se oferecem por fiadores para responder pelas dívidas de outrem, porque, se não tens com que pagar, quem impedirá que te arrebatem a cama de debaixo de ti ?
27 For if you do not have the means to restore, what reason should there be for him to take the covering from your bed?
28 Do not cross beyond the ancient limits that your fathers have set.	28 Não passes além dos antigos marcos que puseram teus pais.
29 Have you seen a man swift in his work? He shall stand in the sight of kings, and not before those who are disreputable.	29 Viste um homem (pontual e) expedito nos seus afazeres? Este terá lugar junto dos reis. não ficará entre gente obscura.
