CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINLA SACRA BIBBIA
Alleluia. Confess to the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy is with every generation.1 Lodate il Signore, invocate il suo nome; proclamate fra i popoli le sue imprese.
Who will declare the powers of the Lord? Who make a hearing for all his praises?2 Cantate in suo onore, a lui inneggiate, meditate su tutti i suoi prodigi.
Blessed are those who keep judgment and who do justice at all times.3 Gloriatevi del suo santo nome; si rallegri il cuore di quanti cercano il Signore.
Remember us, O Lord, with good will for your people. Visit us with your salvation,4 Ricercate il Signore e la sua potenza; ricercate il suo volto costantemente.
so that we may see the goodness of your elect, so that we may rejoice in the joy of your nation, so that you may be praised along with your inheritance.5 Ricordate le meraviglie che egli ha compiute, i prodigiosi giudizi della sua bocca:
We have sinned, as have our fathers. We have acted unjustly; we have wrought iniquity.6 voi, discendenza di Abramo, suo servo, figli di Giacobbe, suo eletto.
Our fathers did not understand your miracles in Egypt. They did not remember the multitude of your mercies. And they provoked you, while going up to the sea, even the Red Sea.7 Egli è il Signore, vostro Dio; su tutta la terra sono i suoi giudizi.
And he saved them for the sake of his name, so that he might make known his power.8 Egli si ricorda per sempre del suo patto parola data per mille generazioni
And he rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up. And he led them into the abyss, as if into a desert.9 che fece con Abramo, del suo giuramento dato a Isacco,
And he saved them from the hand of those who hated them. And he redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.10 che a Giacobbe confermò come suo statuto e a Israele come eterna alleanza,
And the water covered those who troubled them. Not one of them remained.11 quando disse: "A te darò la terra di Canaan, come vostra porzione di eredità".
And they believed his words, and they sang his praises.12 Quando essi erano in piccolo numero, pochi e forestieri in quella terra,
As soon as they had finished, they forgot his works, and they would not endure his counsel.13 vaganti da nazione a nazione, da un regno a un altro popolo,
And they coveted their desire in the desert, and they tempted God in a waterless place.14 non permise che alcuno li opprimesse e punì i re a causa loro:
And he granted to them their request, and he sent abundance into their souls.15 "Non toccate i miei consacrati; ai miei profeti non fate del male!".
And they provoked Moses in the camp, and Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.16 Fece venire la fame sulla terra, tagliò ogni sostegno di pane.
The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, and it covered the congregation of Abiram.17 Davanti a loro mandò un uomo; come schiavo fu venduto Giuseppe.
And a fire broke out in their congregation. A flame burned up the sinners.18 Strinsero in ceppi i suoi piedi, passò nel ferro la sua gola;
And they fashioned a calf at Horeb, and they adored a graven image.19 finché la sua parola non si fu adempiuta, e il detto del Signore non l'ebbe giustificato.
And they exchanged their glory for the likeness of a calf that eats hay.20 Il re mandò a scioglierlo, il dominatore dei popoli mandò a liberarlo.
They forgot God, who saved them, who did great things in Egypt:21 Lo elevò a signore della sua casa, sovrintendente a tutti i suoi averi,
miracles in the land of Ham, terrible things at the Red Sea.22 perché istruisse i suoi prìncipi secondo il suo beneplacito, e insegnasse la saggezza ai suoi anziani.
And he said that he would destroy them, yet Moses, his elect, stood firm before him in the breach, in order to avert his wrath, lest he destroy them.23 Allora entrò Israele in Egitto, emigrò Giacobbe nella terra di Cam.
And they held the desirable land to be nothing. They did not trust in his word.24 Ma Dio rese assai fecondo il suo popolo, lo fece crescere più dei suoi nemici.
And they murmured in their tabernacles. They did not heed the voice of the Lord.25 Mutò il loro cuore perché odiassero il suo popolo, perché contro i suoi servi agissero con inganno.
And he lifted up his hand over them, in order to prostrate them in the desert,26 Mandò Mosè suo servo, Aronne che egli s'era scelto.
and in order to cast their offspring among the nations, and to scatter them among the regions.27 Pose in loro le sue parole portentose, e i suoi prodigi nella terra di Cam.
And they were initiated into Baal of Peor, and they ate the sacrifices of the dead.28 Inviò le tenebre e si fece buio, ma non rispettarono le sue parole.
And they provoked him with their inventions, and ruination was multiplied in them.29 Mutò in sangue le loro acque e fece morire i loro pesci.
Then Phinehas stood up and placated him: and so the violent disturbance ceased.30 Brulicò di rane il loro paese, fin nelle stanze dei loro sovrani.
And it was reputed to him unto justice, from generation to generation, even forever.31 Diede un comando e vennero le mosche, zanzare in tutto il territorio.
And they provoked him at the Waters of Contradiction, and Moses was afflicted because of them,32 Quale pioggia per loro mandò la grandine, fuoco e vampe nel loro paese.
for they exasperated his spirit. And so he divided them with his lips.33 Poi colpì le loro vigne e i fichi, stroncò gli alberi del loro territorio.
They did not destroy the nations, about which the Lord had spoken to them.34 Diede un comando e vennero le locuste, e bruchi senza numero:
And they were mixed among the Gentiles. And they learned their works,35 divorarono ogni erba del paese, distrussero i frutti del loro suolo.
and they served their graven images, and it became a scandal to them.36 Colpì ogni primogenito nella loro terra, tutte le primizie del loro vigore.
And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.37 Fece uscire il suo popolo con argento e oro; non c'era alcun infermo fra le loro tribù.
And they shed innocent blood: the blood of their sons and of their daughters, which they sacrificed to the graven images of Canaan. And the land was infected with bloodshed,38 Si rallegrò l'Egitto per la loro partenza, il loro terrore era caduto su di essi.
and was contaminated with their works. And they fornicated according to their own inventions.39 Distese una nube a loro protezione, e un fuoco per illuminarli nella notte.
And the Lord became furiously angry with his people, and he abhorred his inheritance.40 Alla loro richiesta fece venire le quaglie e con pane dal cielo li saziò.
And he delivered them into the hands of the nations. And those who hated them became rulers over them.41 Aprì una rupe e ne scaturì acqua; scorreva come un fiume nel deserto.
And their enemies afflicted them, and they were humbled under their hands.42 Poiché si ricordò della sua santa parola, data ad Abramo, suo servo.
Many times, he delivered them. Yet they provoked him with their counsel, and they were brought low by their iniquities.43 Quindi fece uscire il suo popolo allegramente, i suoi eletti, con canti festosi.
And he saw that they were in tribulation, and he heard their prayer.44 Diede a loro le terre delle genti e presero in eredità le ricchezze dei popoli,
And he was mindful of his covenant, and he repented according to the multitude of his mercies.45 affinché osservassero i suoi precetti e custodissero le sue leggi. Alleluia.
And he provided for them with mercies, in the sight of all those who had seized them.
Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may confess your holy name and glory in your praise.
Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, from ages past, even to all ages. And let all the people say: Amen. Amen.
