CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINSAGRADA BIBLIA
Alleluia. Confess to the Lord, and invoke his name. Announce his works among the nations.1 Bendize, ó minha alma, o Senhor! Senhor, meu Deus, vós sois imensamente grande! De majestade e esplendor vos revestis,
Sing to him, and sing psalms to him. Describe all his wonders.2 envolvido de luz como de um manto. Vós estendestes o céu qual pavilhão,
Be praised in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice.3 acima das águas fixastes vossa morada. De nuvens fazeis vosso carro, andais nas asas do vento;
Seek the Lord, and be confirmed. Seek his face always.4 fazeis dos ventos os vossos mensageiros, e dos flamejantes relâmpagos vossos ministros.
Remember his miracles, which he has done, his portents and the judgments of his mouth:5 Fundastes a terra em bases sólidas que são eternamente inabaláveis.
you offspring of Abraham his servant, you sons of Jacob his elect.6 Vós a tínheis coberto com o manto do oceano, as águas ultrapassavam as montanhas.
He is the Lord our God. His judgments are throughout the entire earth.7 Mas à vossa ameaça elas se afastaram, ao estrondo de vosso trovão estremeceram.
He has remembered his covenant for all ages: the word that he entrusted to a thousand generations,8 Elevaram-se as montanhas, sulcaram-se os vales nos lugares que vós lhes destinastes.
which he assigned to Abraham, and his oath to Isaac.9 Estabelecestes os limites, que elas não hão de ultrapassar, para que não mais tornem a cobrir a terra.
And he stationed the same for Jacob with a precept, and for Israel with an eternal testament,10 Mandastes as fontes correr em riachos, que serpeiam por entre os montes.
saying: To you, I will give the land of Canaan, the allotment of your inheritance.11 Ali vão beber os animais dos campos, neles matam a sede os asnos selvagens.
Though they may have been but a small number, very few and foreigners there,12 Os pássaros do céu vêm aninhar em suas margens, e cantam entre as folhagens.
and though they passed from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people,13 Do alto de vossas moradas derramais a chuva nas montanhas, do fruto de vossas obras se farta a terra.
he allowed no man to harm them, and he reproved kings on their behalf.14 Fazeis brotar a relva para o gado, e plantas úteis ao homem, para que da terra possa extrair o pão
Do not be willing to touch my Christ, and do not be willing to malign my prophets.15 e o vinho que alegra o coração do homem, o óleo que lhe faz brilhar o rosto e o pão que lhe sustenta as forças.
And he called a famine upon the land, and he crushed every foundation of the bread.16 As árvores do Senhor são cheias de seiva, assim como os cedros do Líbano que ele plantou.
He sent a man before them: Joseph, who had been sold as a slave.17 Lá constroem as aves os seus ninhos, nos ciprestes a cegonha tem sua casa.
They humbled his feet in shackles; the iron pierced his soul,18 Os altos montes dão abrigo às cabras, e os rochedos aos arganazes.
until his word arrived. The eloquence of the Lord inflamed him.19 Fizestes a lua para indicar os tempos; o sol conhece a hora de se pôr.
The king sent and released him; he was the ruler of the people, and he dismissed him.20 Mal estendeis as trevas e já se faz noite, entram a rondar os animais das selvas.
He established him as master of his house and ruler of all his possessions,21 Rugem os leõezinhos por sua presa, e pedem a Deus o seu sustento.
so that he might instruct his princes as himself, and teach his elders prudence.22 Mas se retiram ao raiar do sol, e vão se deitar em seus covis.
And Israel entered into Egypt, and Jacob became a sojourner in the land of Ham.23 É então que o homem sai para o trabalho, e moureja até o entardecer.
And he helped his people greatly, and he strengthened them over their enemies.24 Ó Senhor, quão variadas são as vossas obras! Feitas, todas, com sabedoria, a terra está cheia das coisas que criastes.
He turned their heart to hate his people, and to deal deceitfully with his servants.25 Eis o mar, imenso e vasto, onde, sem conta, se agitam animais grandes e pequenos.
He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, the one whom he chose.26 Nele navegam as naus e o Leviatã que criastes para brincar nas ondas.
He placed with them signs of his word, and portents in the land of Ham.27 Todos esses seres esperam de vós que lhes deis de comer em seu tempo.
He sent darkness and made it conceal, and he did not afflict them with his speech.28 Vós lhes dais e eles o recolhem; abris a mão, e se fartam de bens.
He turned their waters into blood, and he slaughtered their fish.29 Se desviais o rosto, eles se perturbam; se lhes retirais o sopro, expiram e voltam ao pó donde saíram.
Their land brought forth frogs, even in the inner chambers of their kings.30 Se enviais, porém, o vosso sopro, eles revivem e renovais a face da terra.
He spoke, and there came forth common flies and gnats, in every region.31 Ao Senhor, glória eterna; alegre-se o Senhor em suas obras!
He gave them a shower of hail and a burning fire, in the same land.32 Ele, cujo olhar basta para fazer tremer a terra, e cujo contato inflama as montanhas.
And he struck their vineyards and their fig trees, and he crushed the trees of their region.33 Enquanto viver, cantarei à glória do Senhor, salmodiarei ao meu Deus enquanto existir.
He spoke, and the locust came forth, and the caterpillar, of which there was no number.34 Possam minhas palavras lhe ser agradáveis! Minha única alegria se encontra no Senhor.
And it devoured all the grass in their land, and it consumed all the fruit of their land.35 Sejam tirados da terra os pecadores e doravante desapareçam os ímpios. Bendize, ó minha alma, ao Senhor! Aleluia.
And he struck all the first-born in their land, the first-fruits of all their labor.
And he led them out with silver and gold, and there was not an infirm one among their tribes.
Egypt was joyful at their departure, for the fear of them lay heavy upon them.
He spread a cloud for their protection, and a fire, to give them light through the night.
They petitioned, and the quail came; and he satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He ruptured the rock and the waters flowed: rivers gushed in the dry land.
For he had called to mind his holy word, which he kept near to his servant Abraham.
And he led forth his people in exultation, and his elect in rejoicing.
And he gave them the regions of the Gentiles, and they possessed the labors of the peoples,
so that they might observe his justifications, and inquire about his law.
