1 Then Tobias responded to his father, and he said: “I will do everything just as you have instructed me, father.	1 Tobías respondió a Tobit, su padre: «Padre, haré todo lo que me mandas.
2 But I do not know how to obtain this money. He does not know me, and I do not know him. What proof shall I give to him? And I do not know any part of the way, which leads to that place.”	2 Pero ¿cómo podré recuperar ese dinero? Gabael no me conoce, ni yo a él. ¿Qué prueba puedo darle para que me reconozca, se fíe de mí y me entregue el dinero? Además, no sé cómo se va a Media».
3 Then his father answered him, and he said: “Indeed, I have a written agreement about that in my possession, which, when you show it to him, he will immediately repay it.	3 Tobit le explicó: «Los dos firmamos un recibo que yo dividí en dos partes. Me quedé con una y dejé la otra con el dinero. Hace ya veinte años de aquello. Ahora, hijo, busca una persona de confianza que te acompañe. Le pagaremos un salario hasta que volváis. Ve y recupera ese dinero».
4 But go out now, and inquire after some faithful man, who would go with you to keep you safe in return for his wages, so that you may receive it while I am still alive.”	4 Tobías salió a buscar un guía que conociera el camino de Media y lo acompañara. Nada más salir, se encontró con el ángel Rafael. Pero no sabía que era un ángel de Dios.
5 Then Tobias, departing, found a splendid young man, standing girded and seemingly ready for travel.	5 Le preguntó: «¿De dónde vienes, amigo?». El ángel respondió: «Soy un hijo de Israel, como tú. Ando en busca de trabajo». Tobías preguntó: «¿Conoces el camino que lleva a Media?».
6 And not knowing that he was an Angel of God, he greeted him, and he said, “Where are you from, good young man?”	6 Respondió el ángel: «Sí. He estado allí muchas veces y conozco bien todos los caminos. En mis frecuentes viajes a Media me he hospedado en casa de Gabael, nuestro hermano, que vive en Ragués. Hay dos jornadas de camino desde Ecbatana hasta Ragués, pues Ragués está en la montaña, y Ecbatana en la llanura».
7 And so he answered, “From the sons of Israel.” And Tobias said to him, “Do you know the way that leads to the region of the Medes?”	7 Tobías le dijo: «Espérame, amigo, que voy a decírselo a mi padre. Necesito que me acompañes. Te pagaré por ello».
8 And he answered: “I know it. And I have frequently walked through all its paths, and I stayed with Gabael, our brother, who lives in Rages, a city of the Medes, which is situated at the mount of Ecbatana.”	8 El ángel respondió: «Bien. Espero aquí, pero no tardes».
9 Tobias said to him, “I implore you, wait here for me, until I tell these same things to my father.”	9 Entró Tobías en casa e informó a su padre: «Ya he encontrado al hombre. Es de los hijos de Israel, hermano nuestro». Tobit le contestó: «Llámale, hijo. Quiero saber a qué tribu y familia pertenece y si es un acompañante de confianza».
10 Then Tobias, entering, revealed all these things to his father. Upon which, his father, in admiration, asked that he would enter to him.	10 Tobías salió y le dijo: «Amigo, mi padre te llama». Entró el ángel y, respondiendo al saludo de Tobit, dijo: «Que la alegría sea contigo». A lo que Tobit replicó: «¿Qué alegría puedo tener? Estoy ciego. No veo la luz del cielo. Vivo en tinieblas como los muertos, que no pueden ver la luz. Soy un muerto en vida. Oigo la voz de las personas, pero no veo a nadie». El ángel repuso: «Ten ánimo, que Dios te curará pronto. Ten ánimo». Tobit prosiguió: «Mi hijo Tobías quiere ir a Media. ¿Puedes acompañarlo como guía? Te pagaré por ello, hermano». Respondió el ángel: «Puedo acompañarlo. Conozco todos los caminos. He estado repetidas veces en Media. He recorrido sus llanuras y montañas. Estoy familiarizado con todos los caminos».
11 And so, entering, he greeted him, and he said, “May gladness be always with you.”	11 Tobit quiso saber más: «Dime, hermano: ¿a qué tribu y familia perteneces?».
12 And Tobit said, “What kind of gladness will be for me, since I sit in darkness and do not see the light of heaven?”	12 Le respondió el ángel: «¿Para qué necesitas conocer mi tribu?». Tobit insistió: «Hermano, me gustaría conocer cómo te llamas y de quién eres hijo».
13 And the young man said to him, “Be steadfast in soul. Your cure from God is near.”	13 Entonces el ángel precisó: «Soy Azarías, hijo del célebre Ananías, uno de tus parientes».
14 And so Tobit said to him, “Are you able to lead my son to Gabael in Rages, a city of the Medes? And when you return, I will pay you your wages.”	14 Tobit le dijo: «Bienvenido seas, hermano. No tomes a mal mi deseo de saber sobre tu familia. Resulta que eres pariente mío y perteneces a una familia buena y noble. Conozco a Ananías y a Natán, los dos hijos del gran Semeí. Iban conmigo a Jerusalén y allí adorábamos a Dios; nunca se han desviado del buen camino. Tus parientes son gente de bien. Buen linaje, el tuyo. Bienvenido seas».
15 And the Angel said to him, “I will lead him, and I will bring him back to you.”	15 Y añadió: «Te daré como paga una dracma al día y tendrás lo que necesites, lo mismo que mi hijo. Acompáñalo en sus viajes
16 And Tobit responded to him, “I ask you to tell me: which family or which tribe are you from?”	16 y añadiré algo a esa cantidad».
17 And Raphael the Angel said, “Do you seek the family of the one you hire, or else the hired hand himself, to go with your son?	17 Respondió el ángel: «Iré con él. Y no temas: sanos partimos y sanos volveremos. El camino es seguro». Tobit le dijo: «Dios te bendiga, hermano». Llamó luego a su hijo y le ordenó: «Hijo, prepara las cosas para el viaje y ve con tu pariente. Que el Dios del cielo os proteja y devuelva sanos. Que su ángel os acompañe y proteja». Antes de partir, Tobías se despidió con un beso de su padre y de su madre. Tobit le dijo: «¡Adiós, y buen viaje!».
18 But, lest perhaps I cause you to worry: I am Azariah, the son of Hananiah the great.”	18 Pero la madre, llorando, reconvino a su marido: «¿Por qué has dejado marchar a mi hijo? Él es el báculo de nuestra vejez. Siempre ha estado con nosotros.
19 And Tobit responded, “You are from a great family. But I ask you, do not be angry that I wanted to know your family.”	19 ¿Para qué más dinero? Es basura en comparación con nuestro hijo.
20 But the Angel said to him, “I will lead your son safely, and I will bring him back safely to you.”	20 Tenemos bastante con lo que el Señor nos concede».
21 And so Tobit, answering, said, “May you walk well, and may God be with you on your journey, and may his Angel accompany you.”	21 Tobit le dijo: «No te preocupes. Nuestro hijo parte sano y sano volverá. Lo verás con tus propios ojos cuando regrese.
22 Then, when all things were ready which were to be carried on their journey, Tobias said farewell to his father, and to his mother, and the two of them walked together.	22 No te atribules ni sufras, querida. Un ángel bueno lo acompañará, le concederá un próspero viaje y nos lo devolverá sano y salvo».
23 And when they had set out, his mother began to weep, and to say: “You have taken the staff of our old age, and you have sent him away from us.	23 Ella dejó de llorar.
24 I wish that the money, for which you sent him, had never been.
25 For our poverty has been sufficient for us, so that we might count it as riches that we saw our son.”
26 And Tobit said to her: “Do not weep. Our son will arrive safely, and he will return safely to us, and your eyes shall see him.
27 For I believe that the good Angel of God accompanies him and that he orders all things well which occur around him, such that he will be returned to us with gladness.”
28 At these words, his mother ceased weeping, and she was silent.
