1 Samuel 9

1 Among the men of Benjamin was a man cal ed Kish son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son ofAphiah; a Benjaminite and a person of rank.	1 Vi era un uomo di Beniamino, chiamato Cis, figlio di Abiel, figlio di Seror, figlio di Berorat, figlio di Afia, figlio di un uomo di Iemini, forte e valoroso.
2 He had a son cal ed Saul, a handsome man in the prime of life. Of al the Israelites there was no onemore handsome than he; he stood head and shoulders tal er than anyone else.	2 Egli aveva un figlio chiamato Saul, forte e buono, di cui non v'era il migliore tra i figli d'Israele. Egli era più alto di tutti gli altri dalle spalle in su.
3 Now since the donkeys belonging to Kish, Saul's father, had strayed, Kish said to his son Saul, 'My son,take one of the servants with you and be off; go and look for the donkeys.'	3 Or essendo state smarrite le asine di Cis, padre di Saul, Cis disse a Saul suo figlio: « Preso teco uno dei servi, parti e va in cerca delle asine ». Essi, essendo passati pel monte di E Paini
4 They went through the highlands of Ephraim, they went through the territory of Shalishah, and did notfind them; they went through the territory of Shaalim but they were not there; they went through the territory ofBenjamin and did not find them.	4 e per la terra di Salisa senza trovarle, passarono anche per il paese di Salim, ma non vi erano, e per il paese di Iemini, ma nonle trovarono.
5 When they reached the territory of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, 'Come on, let usgo back or my father wil stop worrying over the donkeys and start being anxious about us.'	5 Arrivati che furono alla terra di Suf, Saul disse al servo che era con lui: « Vieni, torniamo; chè forse mio padre non pensi più alle asine, perchè in pena pei noi ».
6 The servant, however, replied, 'Look, there is a man of God in this town, a man who is held in honour;everything he says comes true. Let us go there, then; perhaps he wil be able to show us the way that we shouldtake.'	6 E il servo disse: « Ecco, in questa città vi è un uomo di Pio, un uomo famoso: tutto quello che egli dice avviene sicuramente: andiamo dunque da lui: potrebbe darsi che ci indichi la via di ottenere lo scopo per cui ci siam messi ».
7 Saul said to his servant, 'But if we do go, what can we take to the man? The food in our sacks isfinished, and we have no present to offer the man of God. What else have we got?'	7 Saul rispose al suo servo:« Andiamo pure; ma che porteremo all'uomo di Dio? Non vi è più pane nei nostri sacchi, non abbiamo nulla da offrire all'uomo di Dio, proprio niente ».
8 The servant spoke up again and said to Saul, 'Look, I happen to have a quarter of a silver shekel; Ishall give that to the man of God, for him to tel us which way to go.'	8 Ma il servo, replicando a Saul, disse: « Ecco, mi son trovato addosso un quarto di statere di argento, diamolo all'uomo di Dio, affinchè ci dica qualche cosa sulla via da prendersi ».
9 In Israel, in olden days, when anyone used to go to consult God, he would say, 'Come on, let us go tothe seer,' for a man who is now cal ed a 'prophet' used to be cal ed a 'seer' in olden days.	9 (Anticamente tutti quelli che in Israele andavano a consultare Dio dicevano: Venite, andiamo dal Veggente, perchè allora quelloche oggi vien chiamato Profeta si chiamava Veggente).
10 Saul then said to his servant, 'Wel said! Come on, let us go.' And they went off to the town where theman of God was.	10 Saul disse al suo servo: « Tu dici molto bene: vieni, andiamo ». E andarmi nella cititi ove era l'uomo di Dio.
11 As they were going up the slope to the town they came across some girls going out to draw water, andsaid to them, 'Is the seer there?'	11 Or mentre salivano il pendìo della città, trovarono delle fanciulle che uscivano ad attingere acqua, alle quali dissero: « Sta qui il Veggente? »
12 The girls replied, 'He is. He arrived a moment or two ahead of you. You had better hurry: he has justcome to town because the people are having a sacrifice today on the high place.	12 E quelle risposero: « Sì, è qui, è davanti a te; ma sbrigati, perchè è venuto oggi nella città, essendovi oggi un sacrifizio del popolo nell'alto luogo.
13 You can catch him as soon as you go into the town, before he goes up to the high place for the meal.The people wil not eat until he comes, since he must bless the sacrifice; after that, the guests will start eating. Ifyou go up now, you will find him straight away.'	13 Appena entrati in città lo troverete subito, prima che salga all'alto luogo per mangiare; per certo il popolo non mangerà finché non sia giunto lui, perchè egli benedice l'ostia, e poi quelli che son chiamati mangiano. Salite dunque subito, chè oggi lo troverete ».
14 So they went up to the town and, as they were going through the gate, Samuel came out towardsthem on his way to the high place.	14 Ed essi salirono alla città. Mentre essi camminavano in mezzo alla città, ecco comparir Samuele che usciva loro incontro per salire all'alto luogo.
15 Now, Yahweh had given Samuel a revelation the day before Saul came, saying,	15 Or il Signore, un giorno avanti che Saul venisse, aveva parlato all'orecchio di Samuele, dicendo:
16 'About this time tomorrow, I shal send you a man from the territory of Benjamin; you are to anoint himas prince of my people Israel, and he wil save my people from the power of the Philistines; for I have seen themisery of my people and their cries of anguish have come to me.'	16 « Domani, in questa medesima ora, ti manderò un nomo della terra di Beniamino, e tu lo ungerai come capo del mio popolo d'Israele: egli libererà il mio popolo dalla mano dei Filistei; perchè io ho riguardato al mio popolo, essendo giunto fino a me il loro grido ».
17 When Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh told him, 'That is the man of whom I said to you, "He is to govern mypeople." '	17 E quando Samuele ebbe veduto Saul, il Signore gli disse: « Ecco l'uomo di cui ti ho parlato, lui regnerà sopra il mio popolo ».
18 Saul accosted Samuel in the gateway and said, 'Tel me, please, where the seer's house is.'	18 Or Saul, avvicinandosi a Samuele in mezzo alia porta, disse: « Insegnami, ti prego, dov'è la casa, del Veggente ».
19 Samuel replied to Saul, 'I am the seer. Go up ahead of me to the high place. You must eat with metoday. Tomorrow, when I let you go, I shal tell you whatever is on your mind.	19 Samuele rispose a Saul, dicendo: « Son io il Veggente: sali davanti a me all'alto luogo, per mangiare con me, e domattina ti lascerò andare spiegandoti tutto quello che hai nel tuo cuore.
20 As regards your donkeys, however, which strayed three days ago, do not worry about them; they havebeen found. And for whom is the whole wealth of Israel destined, if not for you and for al the members of yourfather's family?'	20 In quanto poi alle asine che smarristi tre giorni fa, non stare in pensiero, chè sono state ritrovate. E di chi sarà tutto il meglio d'Israele? Non sarà forse tuo e di tutta la casa di tuo padre?»
21 To this, Saul replied, 'Am I not a Benjaminite, from the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And is not myfamily the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why are you saying a thing like this to me?'	21 Ma Saul, rispondendo, disse: « Non son io figlio di Iemini, della più piccola tribù d'Israele, e la mia famiglia non è forse l'ultima di tutte quelle di Beniamino? A e che dunque tenermi questo discorso?
22 Samuel then took Saul and his servant and brought them into the hal and gave them a place at thehead of the guests, of whom there were about thirty.	22 Ma Samuele, preso Saul e il suo servo, l'introdusse nella sala e diede loro il primo posto tra gl'invitati, che eran circa trenta persone.
23 Samuel then said to the cook, 'Serve the portion which I gave you and told you to put on one side.'	23 Samuele disse poi al cuoco: « Porta quella porzione che ti diedi ordinandoti di serbarla presso di te ».
24 The cook then picked up the leg and the tail and put it in front of Saul, saying, 'This is for you. This iswhat was left. Make a good meal . . .' That day, Saul ate with Samuel.	24 Il cuoco, presa allora la spalla, la pose davanti a Saul. E Samuele disse: «Ecco la porzione riservata: mettitela davanti e mangia, perchè fu serbata apposta per te, quando invitai il popolo ». E Saul quel giorno mangiò con Samuele.
25 They came down from the high place into the town. A bed was made for Saul on the roof and he laydown there.	25 Poi, discesi che furono dall'alto luogo nella città, Samuele parlò con Saul sulla terrazza, ove gli preparò un letto, in cui Saul dormì.
26 At dawn, Samuel cal ed to Saul on the roof, 'Get up, and I shall send you on your way.' Saul got up,and Samuel and he went outside together.	26 Il giorno dopo, alzatosi di buon mattino, Samuele chiamò Saul sulla terrazza, dicendogli: « Alzati, e ti lascerò andare ». E Saul s'alzò, e uscirono insieme, lui e Samuele.
27 They had walked as far as the end of the town when Samuel said to Saul, 'Tell the servant to go onahead of us, but you stand stil for a moment, so that I can make known to you the word of God.'	27 Mentre scendevano verso l'estrema parte della città, Samuele disse a Saul: « Di' al tuo servo di passar oltre e di andare innanzi a noi, e tu fermati un poco, affinchè io ti annunzi la parola del Signore ».
