1 Samuel 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Among the men of Benjamin was a man cal ed Kish son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son ofAphiah; a Benjaminite and a person of rank.	1 Había un hombre de Benjamín, llamado Quis, hijo de Abiel, hijo de Seror, hijo de Bekorat, hijo de Afiaj. Era un benjaminita y hombre bien situado.
2 He had a son cal ed Saul, a handsome man in the prime of life. Of al the Israelites there was no onemore handsome than he; he stood head and shoulders tal er than anyone else.	2 Tenía un hijo llamado Saúl, joven aventajado y apuesto. Nadie entre los israelitas le superaba en gallardía; de los hombros arriba aventajaba a todos.
3 Now since the donkeys belonging to Kish, Saul's father, had strayed, Kish said to his son Saul, 'My son,take one of the servants with you and be off; go and look for the donkeys.'	3 Se habían extraviado unas asnas pertenecientes a su padre Quis. Dijo Quis a su hijo Saúl: «Toma contigo uno de los criados y vete a buscar las asnas».
4 They went through the highlands of Ephraim, they went through the territory of Shalishah, and did notfind them; they went through the territory of Shaalim but they were not there; they went through the territory ofBenjamin and did not find them.	4 Atravesaron la montaña de Efraím y cruzaron el territorio de Salisá sin encontrar nada; crusaron el país de Saalim, pero no estaban allí, atravesaron el país de Benjamín sin encontrar nada.
5 When they reached the territory of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, 'Come on, let usgo back or my father wil stop worrying over the donkeys and start being anxious about us.'	5 Cuando llegaron a la comarca de Suf, dijo Saúl a su criado que le acompañaba: «Vamos a volvernos, no sea que mi padre olvidando las asnas se inquiete por nosotros».
6 The servant, however, replied, 'Look, there is a man of God in this town, a man who is held in honour;everything he says comes true. Let us go there, then; perhaps he wil be able to show us the way that we shouldtake.'	6 Pero él respondió: «Cabalmente hay en esta ciudad un hombre de Dios. Es hombre acreditado: todo lo que dice se cumple con seguridad. Vamos, pues, allá y acaso nos oriente acerca del viaje que hemos emprendido».
7 Saul said to his servant, 'But if we do go, what can we take to the man? The food in our sacks isfinished, and we have no present to offer the man of God. What else have we got?'	7 Saúl dijo a su criado: «Vamos a ir, pero ¿qué ofreceremos a ese hombre? No queda pan en nuestros zurrones y no tenemos ningún regalo que llevar al hombre de Dios. ¿Qué le podemos dar?»
8 The servant spoke up again and said to Saul, 'Look, I happen to have a quarter of a silver shekel; Ishall give that to the man of God, for him to tel us which way to go.'	8 Replicó el criado y dijo a Saúl: «Es el caso que tengo en mi poder un cuarto de siclo de plata; se lo daré al hombre de Dios y nos orientará sobre nuestro viaje».
9 In Israel, in olden days, when anyone used to go to consult God, he would say, 'Come on, let us go tothe seer,' for a man who is now cal ed a 'prophet' used to be cal ed a 'seer' in olden days.	9 Antes, en Israel, cuando alguien iba a consultar a Dios, decía: «Vayamos al vidente,» porque en vez de «profeta» como hoy, antes se decía «vidente».
10 Saul then said to his servant, 'Wel said! Come on, let us go.' And they went off to the town where theman of God was.	10 Saúl dijo a su criado: «Tienes razón; vamos, pues». Y se fueron a la ciudad donde se encontraba el hombre de Dios.
11 As they were going up the slope to the town they came across some girls going out to draw water, andsaid to them, 'Is the seer there?'	11 Cuando subían por la cuesta de la ciudad, encontraron a unas muchachas que salían a sacar agua y les preguntaron: «¿Está aquí el vidente?»
12 The girls replied, 'He is. He arrived a moment or two ahead of you. You had better hurry: he has justcome to town because the people are having a sacrifice today on the high place.	12 Ellas les respondieron con estas palabras: «Sí, ahí delante está el vidente. Cabalmente acaba de llegar ahora a la ciudad, porque hay hoy un sacrificio por el pueblo en el alto.
13 You can catch him as soon as you go into the town, before he goes up to the high place for the meal.The people wil not eat until he comes, since he must bless the sacrifice; after that, the guests will start eating. Ifyou go up now, you will find him straight away.'	13 En cuanto entréis en la ciudad, le encontraréis antes de que suba al alto para la comida. El pueblo no comerá antes que él llegue, porque es él quien ha de bendecir el sacrificio; y a continuación comerán los invitados. Subid ahora y al momento le encontraréis».
14 So they went up to the town and, as they were going through the gate, Samuel came out towardsthem on his way to the high place.	14 Subieron, pues, a la ciudad. Entraban ellos por la puerta, cuando Samuel salía en dirección a ellos para subir al alto.
15 Now, Yahweh had given Samuel a revelation the day before Saul came, saying,	15 Ahora bien, la víspera de la venida de Saúl había hecho Yahveh está revelación a Samuel:
16 'About this time tomorrow, I shal send you a man from the territory of Benjamin; you are to anoint himas prince of my people Israel, and he wil save my people from the power of the Philistines; for I have seen themisery of my people and their cries of anguish have come to me.'	16 «Mañana, a esta misma hora, te enviaré un hombre de la tierra de Benjamín, le ungirás como jefe de mi pueblo Israel y él librará a mi pueblo de la mano de los filisteos, porque he visto la aflicción de mi pueblo y su clamor ha llegado hasta mí».
17 When Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh told him, 'That is the man of whom I said to you, "He is to govern mypeople." '	17 Y cuando Samuel vio a Saúl, Yahveh le indicó: «Este es el hombre del que te he hablado. El regirá a mi pueblo».
18 Saul accosted Samuel in the gateway and said, 'Tel me, please, where the seer's house is.'	18 Saúl se acercó a Samuel en medio de la puerta, y le dijo: «Indícame, por favor, dónde está la casa del vidente».
19 Samuel replied to Saul, 'I am the seer. Go up ahead of me to the high place. You must eat with metoday. Tomorrow, when I let you go, I shal tell you whatever is on your mind.	19 Samuel respondió a Saúl: Yo soy el vidente; sube delante de mí al alto y comeréis hoy conmigo. Mañana por la mañana te despediré y te descubriré todo lo que hay en tu corazón.
20 As regards your donkeys, however, which strayed three days ago, do not worry about them; they havebeen found. And for whom is the whole wealth of Israel destined, if not for you and for al the members of yourfather's family?'	20 No te preocupes por las asnas que perdiste hace tres días, porque ya han aparecido. Por lo demás, ¿para quién es lo mejor de Israel? ¿No es para ti y para la casa de tu padre?»
21 To this, Saul replied, 'Am I not a Benjaminite, from the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And is not myfamily the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why are you saying a thing like this to me?'	21 Saúl respondió: ¿No soy yo de Benjamín, la menor de las tribus de Israel? ¿No es mi familia la más pequeña de todas las de la tribu de Benjamín? ¿Cómo me dices estas cosas?»
22 Samuel then took Saul and his servant and brought them into the hal and gave them a place at thehead of the guests, of whom there were about thirty.	22 Tomó Samuel a Saúl y a su criado y los hizo entrar en la sala, y les dio un asiento a la cabecera de los invitados, que eran unos treinta.
23 Samuel then said to the cook, 'Serve the portion which I gave you and told you to put on one side.'	23 Después dijo Samuel al cocinero: «Sirve la porcíon que te entregué, la que te dije que pusieras aparte».
24 The cook then picked up the leg and the tail and put it in front of Saul, saying, 'This is for you. This iswhat was left. Make a good meal . . .' That day, Saul ate with Samuel.	24 Tomó el cocinero la pierna y el rabo poniéndolos delante de Saúl. Y dijo: «Aquí tienes, ante ti, lo que se guardó. Come..». Aquel día Saúl comió con Samuel.
25 They came down from the high place into the town. A bed was made for Saul on the roof and he laydown there.	25 Bajaron del alto a la ciudad. Se extendió una estera para Saúl en el terrado,
26 At dawn, Samuel cal ed to Saul on the roof, 'Get up, and I shall send you on your way.' Saul got up,and Samuel and he went outside together.	26 y se acostó. Cuando apuntó el alba, llamó Samuel a Saúl en el terrado y le dijo: «Levántate, que voy a despedirte». Se levantó Saúl y salieron ambos afuera, Samuel y Saúl.
27 They had walked as far as the end of the town when Samuel said to Saul, 'Tell the servant to go onahead of us, but you stand stil for a moment, so that I can make known to you the word of God.'	27 Habían bajabo hasta las afueras de la ciudad, cuando Samuel dijo a Saúl: «Manda a tu criado que se adelante, y tú quédate ahora para que te de a conocer la palabra de Dios».
