1 Samuel 28

1 It then happened that the Philistines mustered their forces for war, to fight Israel, and Achish said toDavid, 'It is understood that you and your men go into battle with me.'	1 Avendo in quei giorni i Filistei adunate le loro schiere per andare a combattere contro Israele, Achis disse a David: « Sappi per certo che verrai al campo con me, tu e la tua gente ».
2 David said to Achish, 'In that case, you wil soon see what your servant can do.' Achish replied toDavid, 'Right, I shal appoint you as my permanent bodyguard.'	2 David rispose ad Achis: « E tu saprai quel che, sarà per fare il tuo servo ». Achis disse a David: « Io ti costituirò per sempre guardia della mia persona ».
3 Now Samuel was dead, and al Israel had mourned him and buried him at Ramah, his own town. Saulhad expel ed the necromancers and wizards from the country.	3 Samuele era morto: tutto Israele l'aveva pianto e l'aveva sepolto in Ramata in sua città, e Saul aveva cacciati dal paese i maghi e gl'indovini.
4 Meanwhile the Philistines had mustered and had come and pitched camp at Shunem. Saul musteredal Israel and they encamped at Gilboa.	4 Adunatisi adunque i Filistei, vennero ad accamparsi il Sunam. Saul, radunato tutto Israele venne a Gelboe;
5 When Saul saw the Philistine camp, he was afraid and his heart trembled violently.	5 ma veduto il campo dei Filistei, n'ebbe paura, e il suo cuore fu grandemente spaventato.
6 Saul consulted Yahweh, but Yahweh gave him no answer, either by dream, divination or prophet.	6 Consultò il Signore, ma non gli diede risposta, nè per sogni, nè per sacerdoti, nè per profeti.
7 Saul then said to his servants, 'Find a necromancer for me, so that I can go and consult her.' Hisservants replied, 'There is a necromancer at En-Dor.'	7 Allora Saul disse ai suoi servi: « Cercatemi una donna che abbia lo spirito indovino, chè io vada da lei e la interroghi ». Gli dissero i suoi servi: « V'è in Endor una donna che ha lo spirito indovino ».
8 And so Saul, disguising himself and changing his clothes, set out accompanied by two men; their visitto the woman took place at night. 'Disclose the future to me', he said, 'by means of a ghost. Conjure up the one Ishall name to you.'	8 Saul, lasciate le sue vesti e presene altre, andò di notte con altri due a trovare la donna e le disse: «Predicimi l'avvenire per lo spirito indovino, ed evocami colui che ti dirò ».
9 The woman replied, 'Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has outlawed necromancers andwizards from the country; why are you setting a trap for my life, then, to have me killed?'	9 La donna gli disse: « Ecco, tu sai tutto quel che ha fatto Saul, e come ha sterminati dal paese i maghi e gl'indovini, perchè tendi insidie alla mia vita, per farmi morire? »
10 But Saul swore to her by Yahweh, 'As Yahweh lives,' he said, 'no blame shal attach to you for thisbusiness.'	10 Saul le giurò pel Signore, dicendo: « Viva il Signore! Non ti avverrà nessun male per questo ».
11 The woman asked, 'Whom shal I conjure up for you?' He replied, 'Conjure up Samuel.'	11 La donna disse: « Chi ti devo evocare? » Saul rispose: « Evocami Samuele ».
12 The woman then saw Samuel and, giving a great cry, she said to Saul, 'Why have you deceived me?You are Saul!'	12 Avendo veduto Samuele, la donna diede un gran grido, e disse a Saul: « Perchè m'hai ingannata? Tu sei Saul ».
13 The king said, 'Do not be afraid! What do you see?' The woman replied to Saul, 'I see a ghost risingfrom the earth.'	13 Le disse il re: « Non temere. Che hai veduto? » La donna disse a Saul: « Ho veduto un essere sovrumano salir dalla terra ».
14 'What is he like?' he asked. She replied, 'It is an old man coming up; he is wrapped in a cloak.' Saulthen knew that it was Samuel and, bowing to the ground, prostrated himself.	14 E Saul a lei: « Qual'è la sua forma? » Essa rispose: « È salito un uomo vecchio, ed avvolto in un mantello ». Saul, avendo compreso che era Samuele, si prostrò colla faccia chinata in terra.
15 Samuel said to Saul, 'Why have you disturbed my rest by conjuring me up?' Saul replied, 'I am ingreat distress; the Philistines are waging war on me, and God has abandoned me and no longer answers meeither by prophet or by dream; and so I have summoned you to tel me what I ought to do.'	15 Samuele disse a Saul: « Perchè m'hai disturbato col farmi evocare? » Saul rispose: « Io sono in grandi angustie: i Filistei mi han mossa guerra, Dio si è ritirato da me e non ha voluto rispondermi, nè per mezzo di profeti, nè per via di sogni: allora io ho fatto evocare te, affinchè mi dica ciò che ho da fare ».
16 Samuel said, 'Why consult me, when Yahweh has abandoned you and has become your enemy?	16 Samuele rispose: « Perchè interrogarmi, dopo che il Signore s'è ritirato da te ed è passato al tuo rivale?
17 Yahweh has treated you as he foretold through me; he has snatched the sovereignty from your handand given it to your neighbour, David,	17 Il Signore ti tratterà come per mezzo mio già disse: ti strapperà di mano il tuo regno, e lo darà al tuo parente, a David;
18 because you disobeyed Yahweh's voice and did not execute his fierce anger against Amalek. That iswhy Yahweh is treating you like this today.	18 perchè tu non hai obbedito alla voce del Signore, e non mettesti in esecuzione l'ira del suo furore contro Amalec: ecco, quello che soffri te lo manda il Signore in questo giorno.
19 What is more, Yahweh will deliver Israel and you too, into the power of the Philistines. Tomorrow youand your sons will be with me; and Yahweh wil hand over the army of Israel into the power of the Philistines.'	19 Con te il Signore darà anche Israele nelle mani dei Filistei; domani tu e i tuoi figli sarete meco; il Signore darà anche il campo d'Israele nelle mani dei Filistei».
20 Immediately Saul fell ful length on the ground. He was terrified by what Samuel had said and wasalso weak from having eaten nothing al that day and night.	20 Saul cadde all'istante per terra disteso, perchè oltre all'essere spaventato per le parole di Samuele, era senza forze, non avendo preso alcun cibo in tutto quel giorno.
21 The woman went to Saul and, seeing his terror, said, 'Look, your servant has obeyed your order; Ihave taken my life in my hands and obeyed the command which you gave me.	21 Per questo la donna andò verso Saul, che era molto turbato, e gli disse: « Ecco, la tua serva ha obbedito alla tua parola, ho messa a repentaglio la mia vita, per ascoltare le tue parole che hai dette;
22 Now please, you in your turn listen to what your servant has to say. Let me offer you a piece ofbread. Eat something and get some strength for your journey.'	22 or dunque anche tu ascolta la voce della tua serva, affinchè io ti offra un pezzo di e pane, e tu, mangiando, ripigli le forze e possa fare il tuo viaggio ».
23 But he refused. 'I wil not eat,' he said. His servants however pressed him, and so did the woman.Al owing himself to be persuaded by them, he got up from the ground and sat on the bed.	23 Ma Saul rifiutò e disse: « Non mungerò ». I suoi servi e la donna lo costrinsero, e allora, dando loro retta, si alzò da terra e si pose a sedere sopra un divano.
24 The woman owned a fattened calf which she quickly slaughtered, and she took some flour andkneaded it and with it baked some unleavened cakes	24 La donna, avendo in casa un vitello grasso, andò in fretta ad ammazzarlo, è presa della farina ed impastatala, ne fece cuocere dei pani azzimi,
25 which she served to Saul and his servants; they ate, and then set off and left the same night.	25 se li pose davanti è a Saul e ai servi di lui. Ed essi, mangiato che ebbero, si alzarono, e camminarono per tutta quella notte.
