1 Yahweh said to Samuel, 'How much longer do you mean to go on mourning over Saul, now that Imyself have rejected him as ruler of Israel? Fil your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse ofBethlehem, for I have found myself a king from among his sons.'	1 E il Signore disse a Samuele: Fino a quando piangerai tu Saul mentre io lo ho rigettato, perchè non regni sopra Israele? Riempi di olio il tuo corno, e vieni, perch'io ti spedisca a casa d’Isai di Bethlehem: perocché tra’ figliuoli di lui mi son provveduto un re.
2 Samuel replied, 'How can I go? When Saul hears of it he wil kill me.' Yahweh then said, 'Take a heiferwith you and say, "I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh."	2 E Samuele disse: Come andrò io? perocché saprallo Saul, e mi ucciderà. E il Signore disse: Condurrai colla tua mano un vitello di branco, e dirai: Son venuto per sacrificare al Signore.
3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I shal reveal to you what you must do; and you wil anoint for me theone I indicate to you.'	3 E inviterai Isai alla vittima, e io t'insegnerò quello che tu abbia da fare, e ungerai quello che io ti accennerò.
4 Samuel did what Yahweh ordered and went to Bethlehem. The elders of the town came trembling tomeet him and asked, 'Seer, is your coming favourable for us,'	4 Fece adunque Samuele, come gli avea detto il Signore. E andò a Bethlehem, e ne restarono meravigliati i seniori della città, e gli andarono incontro, e dissero: Porti tu pace?
5 'Yes,' he replied. 'I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh. Purify yourselves and come with me to thesacrifice.' He purified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.	5 Ed egli disse: Porto pace: sono venuto per offerire sacrifizio al Signore: purificatevi, e venite meco affinchè io faccia l'immolazione. Egli adunque purificò Isai, e i suoi figliuoli, e chiamogli al sacrifizio.
6 When they arrived, he looked at Eliab and thought, 'This must be Yahweh's anointed now before him,'	6 E mentre essi entravano (Samuele) gettò gli occhi sopra Eliab, e disse: Sarebb'egli davanti al Signore l'unto di lui?
7 but Yahweh said to Samuel, 'Take no notice of his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him;God does not see as human beings see; they look at appearances but Yahweh looks at the heart.'	7 Ma il Signore disse a Samuele: Non badare al suo volto, nè alla statura grande di lui, perocché io l'ho rigettato, e io non giudico secondo quel che apparisce allo sguardo dell'uomo: perchè l'uomo vede le cose che dan negli occhi, ma il Signore mira il cuore.
8 Jesse then cal ed Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, 'Yahweh has not chosen this oneeither.'	8 E Isai chiamò Abinadab, e presentollo a Samuele, il quale disse: neppur questo è l'eletto del Signore.
9 Jesse then presented Shammah, but Samuel said, 'Yahweh has not chosen this one either.'	9 E Isai gli condusse Samma; e di lui quegli disse: Questo pure non è l'eletto del Signore.
10 Jesse thus presented seven of his sons to Samuel, but Samuel said to Jesse, 'Yahweh has notchosen these.'	10 Isai adunque fece venire i suoi sette figliuoli dinanzi a Samuele, e Samuele disse ad Isai: nissun di questi è l'eletto dal Signore.
11 He then asked Jesse, 'Are these al the sons you have?' Jesse replied, 'There is stil one left, theyoungest; he is looking after the sheep.' Samuel then said to Jesse, 'Send for him, for we shal not sit down toeat until he arrives.'	11 E Samuele disse ad Isai: Non hai tu altri figliuoli? E quegli rispose: resta ancora un fanciullo, che pasce le pecore. Samuele disse ad Isai: Fallo condur qua, conciossiachè non ci metteremo a tavola, prima che egli venga.
12 Jesse had him sent for; he had ruddy cheeks, with fine eyes and an attractive appearance. Yahwehsaid, 'Get up and anoint him: he is the one!'	12 Quegli allora mandò a prenderlo, e lo presentò. Or egli era di pelo rosso, di bell'aspetto, e di viso avvenente. E il Signore disse: Su via, ungilo; egli è desso.
13 At this, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him, surrounded by his brothers; and the spirit ofYahweh seized on David from that day onwards. Samuel, for his part, set off and went to Ramah.	13 Samuele adunque prese il corno dell'olio, e alla presenza de’ suoi fratelli lo unse: e da quel giorno in poi lo spirito del Signore posò sopra Davidde: e Samuele partì e andó a Ramatha.
14 Now the spirit of Yahweh had withdrawn from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh afflicted him withterrors.	14 Ma si ritirò da Saul lo Spirito del Signore, e lo vessava (permettendolo il Signore) uno spirito malo.
15 Saul's servants said to him, 'An evil spirit from God is undoubtedly the cause of your terrors.	15 E i cortigiani di Saul dissero a lui: Ecco che tu sei travagliato (permettendolo Dio) da uno spirito malo.
16 Let our lord give the order, and your servants who wait on you wil look for a skilled harpist; when theevil spirit from God comes over you, he wil play and it wil do you good.'	16 Se tu, signor nostro, il comandi, li servi tuoi che stanno intorno a te, cercheranno di un uomo abile in sonar l’arpa, affinchè quando ti prende (permettendolo il Signore) lo spirito malo, ei lo suoni, e tu ne risenta alleggiamento.
17 Saul said to his attendants, 'Find me, please, a man who plays wel , and bring him to me.'	17 E Saul disse a’ suoi servi: Trovatemi adunque qualcheduno che suoni bene, e conducetelo a me.
18 One of the servants then spoke up and said, 'I have seen one of the sons of Jesse the Bethlehemite:he is a skil ed player, a brave man and a fighter, well spoken, good-looking and Yahweh is with him.'	18 E uno de' servi disse: Poco fa ho veduto il figliuolo d'Isai di Bethlehem che sa sonare, è dotato di gran fortezza, e buono per la guerra, prudente nel parlare, e di bell'aspetto: e il Signore è con lui.
19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse with the order, 'Send me your son David (who is with the sheep).'	19 Saul adunque mandò a dire a Isai: mandami Davidde tuo figliuolo, che va alla pastura.
20 Jesse took five loaves, a skin of wine and a kid, and sent them to Saul by his son David.	20 E Isai prese un asino carico di pane, e un otre di vino, e un capretto, e mandò il tutto a Saulle per le mani di David suo figliuolo.
21 David went to Saul and entered his service; Saul became very fond of him and David became hisarmour-bearer.	21 E David andò a trovar Saul, e si presentò dinanzi a lui, ed ei gli pose grandissimo affetto, e lo fece suo scudiere.
22 Saul then sent a message to Jesse, 'Let David stay in my service, since he has won my favour.'	22 E mandò Saul a dire ad Isai: Si stia David presso di me: perchè ha trovato grazia negli occhi miei.
23 And whenever the spirit from God came over Saul, David would take a harp and play; Saul wouldthen be soothed; it would do him good, and the evil spirit would leave him.	23 Ogni volta pertanto che lo spirito malo (permettendolo il Signore) investiva Saul, Davidde prendeva l’arpa, e la sonava, e Saul si riaveva, e stava meno male, perchè se ne andava da lui il malo spirito.
