1 Samuel 12

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Samuel said to all Israel, 'I have faithful y done al that you asked of me, and have appointed you aking.	1 Samuele disse a tutto Israele: "Ecco, ho dato ascolto alla vostra voce in tutto quello che mi avete detto e ho costituito un re su di voi.
2 In future, the king will lead you. As for me, I am old and grey, and in any case you have my sons. Ihave been your leader ever since I was young until today.	2 Ed ora, ecco che il re incede davanti a voi; quanto a me, sono vecchio, con i capelli bianchi, e i miei figli, eccoli, sono con voi. Io ho condotto la mia vita davanti a voi dalla giovinezza fino a questo giorno.
3 Here I am. Bear witness against me before Yahweh and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken?Whose donkey have I taken? Have I wronged or oppressed anyone? Have I taken a consideration from anyonefor looking the other way? If so, I wil make amends.'	3 Eccomi, rispondetemi davanti al Signore e davanti al suo consacrato: a chi ho preso il bue? A chi ho preso l'asino? A chi ho fatto estorsione? Chi ho oppresso? Dalla mano di chi ho accettato un prezzo di riscatto velandomi gli occhi con esso? Ve lo restituirò!".
4 They said, 'You have neither wronged nor oppressed us nor accepted anything from anyone.'	4 Risposero: "Non ci hai fatto estorsioni, non ci hai oppressi e non hai accettato niente dalla mano di nessuno".
5 He said to them, 'Yahweh is your witness and his anointed is witness today that you have foundnothing in my hands?' They replied, 'He is witness.'	5 Soggiunse loro: "E' testimone il Signore contro di voi ed è testimone il suo consacrato in questo giorno: non avete trovato niente nella mia mano!". Risposero: "E' testimone!".
6 Samuel then said to the people, 'Yahweh is witness, he who raised up Moses and Aaron and whobrought your ancestors out of Egypt.	6 Samuele disse al popolo: "E' testimone il Signore che ha stabilito Mosè e Aronne e ha tratto fuori i vostri padri dalla terra d'Egitto.
7 So now, stay where you are, while I plead with you before Yahweh and remind you of al the savingacts which he has done for you and for your ancestors.	7 Ora presentatevi perché voglio denunciare a voi, davanti al Signore, e annunziarvi tutte le opere di bontà che il Signore ha fatto a voi e ai vostri avi.
8 After Jacob had arrived in Egypt, the Egyptians oppressed them, and your ancestors cried to Yahweh.Yahweh then sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your ancestors out of Egypt and gave them a settled homehere.	8 Quando Giacobbe entrò in Egitto e gli Egiziani l'oppressero, i vostri antenati si rivolsero con gemiti al Signore, ed egli mandò Mosè e Aronne che fecero uscire i vostri padri dall'Egitto e li fecero abitare in questo luogo.
9 They then forgot Yahweh their God and he sold them into the power of Sisera, general of the army ofHazor, and also into the power of the Philistines and of the king of Moab, who made war on them.	9 Ma essi dimenticarono il Signore loro Dio ed egli li dette in potere di Sisara, capo dell'esercito di Azor, e in potere dei Filistei e in potere del re di Moab, i quali mossero loro guerra.
10 They cried to Yahweh, "We have sinned," they said, "for we have deserted Yahweh and served theBaals and the Astartes. Rescue us now from the power of our enemies, and we wil serve you."	10 Essi si rivolsero con gemiti al Signore e dissero: "Abbiamo peccato, perché abbiamo abbandonato il Signore e abbiamo servito i Baal e le Astarti! Ma ora salvaci dalla mano dei nostri nemici e saremo tuoi servi!".
11 Yahweh then sent Jerubbaal, Barak, Jephthah, and Samuel. He rescued you from the power of theenemies surrounding you, and you lived in security.	11 Allora il Signore mandò Ierub-Baal e Barak, Iefte e Samuele e vi liberò dalla mano dei vostri nemici all'intorno e siete vissuti nella sicurezza.
12 'But when you saw Nahash, king of the Ammonites, marching on you, you said to me, "No, we musthave a king to rule us"-although Yahweh your God is your king.	12 Avete veduto che Nacas, re dei figli di Ammon, è venuto contro di voi, e mi avete detto: "No! Un re regni su di noi!", mentre il Signore, vostro Dio, è il vostro re!
13 So, here is the king whom you have chosen; Yahweh has appointed you a king.	13 Ma ora, ecco il re che avete scelto e avete chiesto. Ecco, il Signore ha costituito un re su di voi.
14 If you fear and serve Yahweh and obey his voice and do not rebel against his commands, and if bothyou and the king who rules you follow Yahweh your God, al wil be wel .	14 Se temerete il Signore e lo servirete e darete ascolto alla sua voce senza disobbedire al comando del Signore, e voi e il re che regna su di voi seguirete il Signore vostro Dio, bene!
15 But if you do not obey Yahweh's voice but rebel against his commands, Yahweh's hand wil beagainst you and against your king.	15 Ma se non darete ascolto alla voce del Signore e sarete ribelli al comando di lui, allora la mano del Signore sarà contro di voi e contro i vostri padri.
16 'Stay where you are and see the wonder which Yahweh wil do before your eyes.	16 Proprio adesso state a vedere il grande prodigio che il Signore sta per compiere davanti ai vostri occhi.
17 Is it not now the wheat harvest? I shal call on Yahweh and he will send thunder and rain, so that youmay clearly understand what a very wicked thing you have done, in Yahweh's eyes, by asking for a king.'	17 Non è oggi la mietitura del grano? Io invocherò il Signore ed egli manderà tuoni e pioggia! Comprendete e vedete: il male che avete fatto chiedendo per voi un re è grande agli occhi del Signore".
18 Samuel then cal ed on Yahweh, and Yahweh sent thunder and rain the same day, and al the peopleheld Yahweh and Samuel in great awe.	18 Allora Samuele invocò il Signore ed egli mandò tuoni e pioggia in quel giorno; così tutto il popolo ebbe gran timore del Signore e di Samuele.
19 They al said to Samuel, 'Pray for your servants to Yahweh your God, to save us from death; for to alour sins we have added this wrong of asking for a king.'	19 Tutto il popolo disse a Samuele: "Prega il Signore Dio tuo per i tuoi servi, perché non ci colga la morte; infatti abbiamo aggiunto a tutti i nostri peccati un altro male chiedendo per noi un re".
20 Samuel said to the people, 'Do not be afraid. Although you have done al these wicked things, do notwithdraw your allegiance from Yahweh. Instead, serve Yahweh with al your heart.	20 Rispose Samuele al popolo: "Non abbiate paura! Sì, voi avete fatto tutto questo male, però non vogliate allontanarvi dal Signore, ma servite a lui con tutto il vostro cuore.
21 Do not transfer your al egiance to useless idols which, being useless, are futile and cannot saveanybody;	21 Non dovete deviare, perché seguireste idoli vuoti che non vi portano fortuna e non vi possono salvare, proprio perché essi sono cose vuote.
22 Yahweh, for the sake of his great name, wil not desert his people, for it has pleased Yahweh tomake you his people.	22 Certo, il Signore non rigetterà il suo popolo a causa del suo grande nome, perché egli si è compiaciuto di costituirvi suo popolo.
23 For my part, far be it from me to sin against Yahweh by ceasing to pray for you or to instruct you inthe good and right way.	23 Quanto a me non sia mai che io pecchi contro il Signore cessando di pregare per voi, anzi vi istruirò nella buona e retta via!
24 Fear none but Yahweh, and serve him faithful y with al your heart, bearing in mind the wonder whichhe has just performed. But, if you persist in wickedness, you and your king will perish.'	24 Temete dunque il Signore e servitelo fedelmente con tutto il vostro cuore: osservate quale grande cosa abbia fatto per voi.
	25 Ma se vi ostinate a fare il male, sia voi che il vostro re perirete".
