1 Samuel 12

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Samuel said to all Israel, 'I have faithful y done al that you asked of me, and have appointed you aking.	1 Samuel dit à tout Israël: "J'ai satisfait à tout ce que vous m'avez demandé et j'ai fait régner un roisur vous.
2 In future, the king will lead you. As for me, I am old and grey, and in any case you have my sons. Ihave been your leader ever since I was young until today.	2 Désormais, c'est le roi qui marchera devant vous. Pour moi, je suis devenu vieux, j'ai blanchi etmes fils sont parmi vous. J'ai marché devant vous depuis ma jeunesse jusqu'à ce jour.
3 Here I am. Bear witness against me before Yahweh and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken?Whose donkey have I taken? Have I wronged or oppressed anyone? Have I taken a consideration from anyonefor looking the other way? If so, I wil make amends.'	3 Me voici! Témoignez contre moi devant Yahvé et devant son oint: de qui ai-je pris le boeuf et dequi ai-je pris l'âne? Qui ai-je frustré et qui ai-je opprimé? De qui ai-je reçu une compensation pour que je fermeles yeux? Je vous restituerai."
4 They said, 'You have neither wronged nor oppressed us nor accepted anything from anyone.'	4 Ils répondirent: "Tu ne nous as ni frustrés ni opprimés, tu n'as rien reçu de personne."
5 He said to them, 'Yahweh is your witness and his anointed is witness today that you have foundnothing in my hands?' They replied, 'He is witness.'	5 Il leur dit: "Yahvé est témoin contre vous, et son oint est témoin aujourd'hui, que vous n'avez rientrouvé entre mes mains." Et ils répondirent: "Il est témoin."
6 Samuel then said to the people, 'Yahweh is witness, he who raised up Moses and Aaron and whobrought your ancestors out of Egypt.	6 Alors Samuel dit au peuple: "Il est témoin, Yahvé qui a suscité Moïse et Aaron et qui a faitmonter vos pères du pays d'Egypte.
7 So now, stay where you are, while I plead with you before Yahweh and remind you of al the savingacts which he has done for you and for your ancestors.	7 Comparaissez maintenant; que je plaide avec vous devant Yahvé et que je vous rappelle tous lesbienfaits que Yahvé a accomplis à votre égard et à l'égard de vos pères:
8 After Jacob had arrived in Egypt, the Egyptians oppressed them, and your ancestors cried to Yahweh.Yahweh then sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your ancestors out of Egypt and gave them a settled homehere.	8 Quand Jacob fut venu en Egypte, les Egyptiens les opprimèrent et vos pères crièrent vers Yahvé.Celui-ci envoya Moïse et Aaron qui firent sortir vos pères d'Egypte, et il les installa en ce lieu.
9 They then forgot Yahweh their God and he sold them into the power of Sisera, general of the army ofHazor, and also into the power of the Philistines and of the king of Moab, who made war on them.	9 Mais ils oublièrent Yahvé leur Dieu et celui-ci les livra aux mains de Sisera, chef de l'armée deHaçor, aux mains des Philistins et du roi de Moab qui leur firent la guerre.
10 They cried to Yahweh, "We have sinned," they said, "for we have deserted Yahweh and served theBaals and the Astartes. Rescue us now from the power of our enemies, and we wil serve you."	10 Ils crièrent vers Yahvé: Nous avons péché, dirent-ils, car nous avons abandonné Yahvé et serviles Baals et les Astartés. Maintenant, délivre-nous de la main de nos ennemis et nous te servirons!
11 Yahweh then sent Jerubbaal, Barak, Jephthah, and Samuel. He rescued you from the power of theenemies surrounding you, and you lived in security.	11 Alors Yahvé envoya Yerubbaal, Baraq, Jephté, Samuel, il vous a délivrés de vos ennemisd'alentour et vous êtes demeurés en sécurité.
12 'But when you saw Nahash, king of the Ammonites, marching on you, you said to me, "No, we musthave a king to rule us"-although Yahweh your God is your king.	12 "Cependant, lorsque vous avez vu Nahash, le roi des Ammonites, marcher contre vous, vousm'avez dit: Non! Il faut qu'un roi règne sur nous. Pourtant, Yahvé votre Dieu, c'est lui votre roi!
13 So, here is the king whom you have chosen; Yahweh has appointed you a king.	13 Voici maintenant le roi que vous avez choisi, Yahvé a établi sur vous un roi.
14 If you fear and serve Yahweh and obey his voice and do not rebel against his commands, and if bothyou and the king who rules you follow Yahweh your God, al wil be wel .	14 Si vous craignez Yahvé et le servez, si vous lui obéissez et ne vous révoltez pas contre sesordres, si vous-mêmes et le roi qui règne sur vous, vous suivez Yahvé votre Dieu, c'est bien!
15 But if you do not obey Yahweh's voice but rebel against his commands, Yahweh's hand wil beagainst you and against your king.	15 Mais si vous n'obéissez pas à Yahvé, si vous vous révoltez contre ses ordres, alors la main deYahvé pèsera sur vous et sur votre roi.
16 'Stay where you are and see the wonder which Yahweh wil do before your eyes.	16 "Encore une fois comparaissez et voyez le grand prodige que Yahvé accomplit sous vos yeux.
17 Is it not now the wheat harvest? I shal call on Yahweh and he will send thunder and rain, so that youmay clearly understand what a very wicked thing you have done, in Yahweh's eyes, by asking for a king.'	17 N'est-ce pas maintenant la moisson des blés? Eh bien, je vais invoquer Yahvé et il fera tonner etpleuvoir. Reconnaissez clairement combien grave est le mal que vous avez commis au regard de Yahvé endemandant pour vous un roi."
18 Samuel then cal ed on Yahweh, and Yahweh sent thunder and rain the same day, and al the peopleheld Yahweh and Samuel in great awe.	18 Samuel invoqua Yahvé et celui-ci fit tonner et pleuvoir le jour même, et tout le peuple eut unegrande crainte de Yahvé et de Samuel.
19 They al said to Samuel, 'Pray for your servants to Yahweh your God, to save us from death; for to alour sins we have added this wrong of asking for a king.'	19 Tous dirent à Samuel: "Prie Yahvé ton Dieu en faveur de tes serviteurs, afin que nous nemourions pas; nous avons mis le comble à tous nos péchés en demandant pour nous un roi."
20 Samuel said to the people, 'Do not be afraid. Although you have done al these wicked things, do notwithdraw your allegiance from Yahweh. Instead, serve Yahweh with al your heart.	20 Mais Samuel dit au peuple: "Ne craignez pas. Oui, vous avez commis tout ce mal. Seulement,ne vous écartez pas de Yahvé et servez-le de tout votre coeur.
21 Do not transfer your al egiance to useless idols which, being useless, are futile and cannot saveanybody;	21 Ne vous écartez pas à la suite des idoles de néant qui ne servent de rien, qui ne sont d'aucunsecours, car elles ne sont que néant.
22 Yahweh, for the sake of his great name, wil not desert his people, for it has pleased Yahweh tomake you his people.	22 En effet, Yahvé ne réprouvera pas son peuple, pour l'honneur de son grand nom, car Yahvé adaigné faire de vous son peuple.
23 For my part, far be it from me to sin against Yahweh by ceasing to pray for you or to instruct you inthe good and right way.	23 Pour ma part, que je me garde de pécher contre Yahvé en cessant de prier pour vous et de vousenseigner le bon et droit chemin.
24 Fear none but Yahweh, and serve him faithful y with al your heart, bearing in mind the wonder whichhe has just performed. But, if you persist in wickedness, you and your king will perish.'	24 Craignez seulement Yahvé et servez-le sincèrement de tout votre coeur, car voyez le grandprodige qu'il a accompli parmi vous.
	25 Mais si vous commettez le mal, vous périrez, vous et votre roi.
