1 Samuel took a phial of oil and poured it on Saul's head; he then kissed him and said, 'Has not Yahwehanointed you as leader of his people Israel? You are the man who is to govern Yahweh's people and save themfrom the power of the enemies surrounding them. The sign for you that Yahweh has anointed you as prince ofhis heritage is this:	1 E Samuele prese un vasetto di olio, e lo versò sul capo di lui, e baciollo, e disse: Ecco che il Signore ti ha unto come principe sopra la sua eredità, e tu libererai il suo popolo dalle mani dei suoi nemici che gli stanno all’intorno. E questa sarà la prova che avrai dell'averti unto il Signore, perchè sii principe.
2 after leaving me today, you will meet two men near the tomb of Rachel, on the frontier of Benjamin . . .and they wil say to you, "The donkeys which you went looking for have been found, and your father has lostinterest in the matter of the donkeys and is worrying about you and wondering, What am I to do about my son?"	2 Oggi quando tu sarai partito da me, troverai due uomini presso al sepolcro di Rachele a' confini di Beniamin sul mezzodì, i quali ti diranno: Sono state trovate le asine delle quali tu andavi in cerca, e il padre tuo, che non pensava più alle asine, è inquieto per voi, e dice: che farò io pel mio figliuolo?
3 Going on from there, you wil come to the Oak of Tabor, where you will meet three men going up toGod at Bethel; one wil be carrying three kids, one three loaves of bread and the third a skin of wine.	3 E quando sarai partito di là, e sarai andato più innanzi, e sarai giunto alla quercia di Thabor, ivi ti rincontreranno tre uomini, che saliranno ad adorare Dio in Bethel, uno che porterà tre capretti, e un altro con tre focacce, e un altro con una bombola di vino.
4 They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread which you must accept from them.	4 E dopo averti salutato ti daranno due pani, e dalla mano loro li prenderai.
5 After this, you wil come to Gibeah of God (where the Philistine garrison is) and, when you are justoutside the town, you wil meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, headed by lyre,tambourine, pipe and harp; they wil be in a state of ecstasy.	5 Di là andrai al colle di Dio, dove è il presidio de' Filistei: e quando sarai entrato nella città, ti verrà incontro una turba di profeti che scenderanno dal luogo eccelso, e profeteranno avendo innanzi a se lire, timpani, trombe, e cetre.
6 The spirit of Yahweh will then seize on you, and you wil go into ecstasy with them, and be changed into another man.	6 E lo Spirito del Signore t'investirà, e profeterai con essi, e sarai mutato io altr'uomo.
7 When these signs have occurred, act as occasion serves, for God is with you.	7 Quando adunque ti saranno avvenuti tutti questi segni, fa tutto quello che ti occorrerà di dover fare, perocché il Signore è teco.
8 You wil then go down, ahead of me, to Gilgal, and I shall join you there to make burnt offerings and tooffer communion sacrifices. You must wait seven days for me to come to you, and I shal then reveal to you whatyou must do.'	8 E tu scenderai prima di me a Galgala (perocché io verrò a trovarti) per offerirvi sacrifizio al Signore, e immolerai ostie pacifiche: aspetterai sette giorni, sin a tanto ch'io venga a te, e si spieghi quel che tu debba fare.
9 As soon as he had turned his back to leave Samuel, God changed his heart. And al these signsoccurred that very day . . .	9 Tosto adunque che egli ebbe volte le spalle per partirsi da Samuele, il Signore cambiò a lui il cuore in un altro; e tutti quei segni si verificarono in quel giorno.
10 From there, they came to Gibeah: and there was a group of prophets coming to meet him! The spiritof God seized on him and he fell into ecstasy with them.	10 E giunsero al colle indicatogli, ed ecco una turba di profeti incontro a lui: e lo Spirito del Signore lo investì, e profetò in mezzo a loro.
11 Seeing him prophesying with the prophets, al the people who had known him previously said to oneanother, 'What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul one of the prophets too?'	11 E tutti quelli che l'aveano conosciuto poco prima, veggendo com'egli era co’ profeti, e profetava, disser tra loro: Che è mai avvenuto al figliuolo di Cis? È egli anche Saul uno dei profeti?
12 And one of the local people retorted, 'But who is their father?' Hence the origin of the proverb: Is Saulone of the prophets too?	12 E l'uno rispose all’altro, e disse: E chi è il padre di quelli? quindi passò in proverbio: E’ egli anche Saul un de' profeti?
13 When he came out of his ecstasy, he went into Gibeah.	13 E finì di profetare, e andò al luogo eccelso.
14 Saul's uncle asked him and his servant, 'Where have you been?' 'Looking for the donkeys,' hereplied, 'and when we could not find them anywhere, we went to Samuel.'	14 E lo zio di Saul disse a lui, e al suo servo: Dove siete stati? Ed essi risposero: A cercare le asine: e non avendole trovate, siamo andati da Samuele.
15 Saul's uncle said, 'Tel me please what Samuel said to you.'	15 E suo zio gli disse: Raccontami quello che ti ha detto Samuele.
16 Saul said to his uncle, 'He merely told us that the donkeys were already found,' but did not mentionanything that Samuel had said about the kingship.	16 E Saul disse a suo zio: Egli ci fè sapere che le asine erano trovate. Ma non iscoperse a lui il discorso che avea tenuto con lui Samuele riguardo al regno.
17 Samuel summoned the people to Yahweh at Mizpah	17 E Samuele adunò il popolo dinanzi al Signore in Maspha.
18 and said to the Israelites, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I brought Israel out of Egypt anddelivered you from the power of the Egyptians and of al the kingdoms that were oppressing you."	18 E disse a' figliuoli d'Israele: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Io trassi Israele dall'Egitto, e vi liberai dalle mani degli Egiziani, e dalle mani di tutti i regi che vi opprimevano.
19 But today you have rejected your God, him who saves you from al your difficulties and troubles; andyou have said, "No, you must set a king over us." Very well, take your positions before Yahweh, tribe by tribeand clan by clan.'	19 Ma voi oggi avete rigettato il vostro Dio, il quale solo vi salvò da tutti i mali, e dalle vostre tribolazioni, e avete detto: Non più così: ma crea un re che ei governi. Or adunque ponetevi dinanzi al Signore tribù per tribù, e famiglia per famiglia.
20 Samuel then made al the tribes of Israel come forward, and the lot indicated the tribe of Benjamin.	20 E Samuele tirò a sorte tutte le tribù d'Israele, e la sorte toccò alla tribù di Beniamin.
21 He then made the tribe of Benjamin come forward clan by clan, and the lot indicated the clan ofMatri; he then made the clan of Matri come forward one by one, and the lot indicated Saul son of Kish, but whenthey looked for him, he was not to be found.	21 E tirò a sorte le famiglie della tribù di Beniamini, e toccò la sorte alla famiglia di Metri, e finalmente a Saul figliuolo di Cis. E cercaron di lui, ma non lo trovarono.
22 Again they consulted Yahweh, 'Has the man come here?' Yahweh replied, 'There he is, hidingamong the baggage.'	22 E dipoi interrogarono il Signore, s'ei fosse per venir colà. E il Signore rispose: Guardate che egli è nascosto in casa.
23 So they ran and fetched him out and, as he stood among the people, he was head and shoulderstal er than any of them.	23 Corsero adunque e lo trasser di là: e si stette in mezzo al popolo, ed era più alto di tutta la gente dalle spalle in su.
24 Samuel then said to all the people, 'You have seen the man whom Yahweh has chosen, and thatamong the whole people he has no equal.' And all the people acclaimed him, shouting, 'Long live the king!'	24 E Samuele disse a tutto il popolo: Certamente voi vedete chi è l'eletto dal Signore, e com'ei non ha eguale in tutto il popolo. E gridò tutto il popolo: Viva il re.
25 Samuel then explained the king's constitutional position to the people and inscribed this in a bookwhich he placed before Yahweh. Samuel then sent al the people away, everyone back to his home.	25 E Samuele espose al popolo la legge del regno, e la scrisse in libro, e lo depositò davanti al Signore: e Samuele licenziò il popolo, perchè andasser ciascuno a sua casa.
26 Saul too went home to Gibeah and with him went those strong men whose hearts God had touched.	26 E parimente Saul se n'andò a casa sua in Gabaa: e andò con lui una parte dell'esercito, quelli a’ quali Dio avea toccato il cuore.
27 But there were some scoundrels who said, 'How can this fellow save us?' These treated him withcontempt and offered him no present.	27 Ma i figliuoli di Belial dissero: Potrà forse salvarci costui? E lo disprezzarono, e non gli portaron doni, ed egli facea vista di non udire.
