1 Samuel 10

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Samuel took a phial of oil and poured it on Saul's head; he then kissed him and said, 'Has not Yahwehanointed you as leader of his people Israel? You are the man who is to govern Yahweh's people and save themfrom the power of the enemies surrounding them. The sign for you that Yahweh has anointed you as prince ofhis heritage is this:
2 after leaving me today, you will meet two men near the tomb of Rachel, on the frontier of Benjamin . . .and they wil say to you, "The donkeys which you went looking for have been found, and your father has lostinterest in the matter of the donkeys and is worrying about you and wondering, What am I to do about my son?"	2 Quand tu m'auras quitté aujourd'hui, tu rencontreras deux hommes près du tombeau de Rachel,sur la frontière de Benjamin... et ils te diront: Les ânesses que tu étais parti chercher sont retrouvées. Voici queton père a oublié l'affaire des ânesses et s'inquiète de vous, se disant: Que faut-il faire pour mon fils?
3 Going on from there, you wil come to the Oak of Tabor, where you will meet three men going up toGod at Bethel; one wil be carrying three kids, one three loaves of bread and the third a skin of wine.	3 Passant outre, tu arriveras au Chêne de Tabor et tu y rencontreras trois hommes montant versDieu à Béthel, l'un portant trois chevreaux, l'autre portant trois miches de pain, le dernier portant une outre devin.
4 They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread which you must accept from them.	4 Ils te salueront et te donneront deux pains, que tu accepteras de leur main.
5 After this, you wil come to Gibeah of God (where the Philistine garrison is) and, when you are justoutside the town, you wil meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, headed by lyre,tambourine, pipe and harp; they wil be in a state of ecstasy.	5 Ensuite, tu arriveras à Gibéa de Dieu (où se trouve le préfet des Philistins) et, à l'entrée de laville, tu te heurteras à une troupe de prophètes descendant du haut lieu, précédés de la harpe, du tambourin, de laflûte et de la cithare, et ils seront en délire.
6 The spirit of Yahweh will then seize on you, and you wil go into ecstasy with them, and be changed into another man.	6 Alors l'esprit de Yahvé fondra sur toi, tu entreras en délire avec eux et tu seras changé en un autrehomme.
7 When these signs have occurred, act as occasion serves, for God is with you.	7 Lorsque ces signes se seront réalisés pour toi, agis comme l'occasion se présentera, car Dieu estavec toi.
8 You wil then go down, ahead of me, to Gilgal, and I shall join you there to make burnt offerings and tooffer communion sacrifices. You must wait seven days for me to come to you, and I shal then reveal to you whatyou must do.'	8 Tu descendras avant moi à Gilgal et je t'y rejoindrai pour offrir des holocaustes et immoler dessacrifices de communion. Tu attendras sept jours que je vienne vers toi et je t'apprendrai ce que tu dois faire."
9 As soon as he had turned his back to leave Samuel, God changed his heart. And al these signsoccurred that very day . . .	9 Dès qu'il eut tourné le dos pour quitter Samuel, Dieu lui changea le coeur et tous ces signess'accomplirent le jour même.
10 From there, they came to Gibeah: and there was a group of prophets coming to meet him! The spiritof God seized on him and he fell into ecstasy with them.	10 De là ils arrivèrent à Gibéa et voici qu'une troupe de prophètes venait à sa rencontre; l'esprit deDieu fondit sur lui et il entra en délire au milieu d'eux.
11 Seeing him prophesying with the prophets, al the people who had known him previously said to oneanother, 'What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul one of the prophets too?'	11 Lorsque ceux qui le connaissaient de longue date virent qu'il prophétisait avec les prophètes, lesgens se dirent l'un à l'autre: "Qu'est-il arrivé au fils de Qish? Saül est-il aussi parmi les prophètes?"
12 And one of the local people retorted, 'But who is their father?' Hence the origin of the proverb: Is Saulone of the prophets too?	12 Un homme du groupe reprit: "Et qui est leur père?" C'est pourquoi il est passé en proverbe dedire: "Saül est-il aussi parmi les prophètes?"
13 When he came out of his ecstasy, he went into Gibeah.	13 Lorsqu'il fut sorti de transe, il rentra à Gibéa.
14 Saul's uncle asked him and his servant, 'Where have you been?' 'Looking for the donkeys,' hereplied, 'and when we could not find them anywhere, we went to Samuel.'	14 L'oncle de Saül lui demanda ainsi qu'à son serviteur: "Où êtes-vous allés" -- "A la recherche desânesses, répondit-il. Nous n'avons rien vu et nous sommes allés chez Samuel."
15 Saul's uncle said, 'Tel me please what Samuel said to you.'	15 L'oncle de Saül lui dit: "Raconte-moi donc ce que Samuel vous a dit."
16 Saul said to his uncle, 'He merely told us that the donkeys were already found,' but did not mentionanything that Samuel had said about the kingship.	16 Saül répondit à son oncle: "Il nous a seulement annoncé que les ânesses étaient retrouvées",mais il ne lui raconta pas l'affaire de la royauté, que Samuel avait dite.
17 Samuel summoned the people to Yahweh at Mizpah	17 Samuel convoqua le peuple auprès de Yahvé à Miçpa
18 and said to the Israelites, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I brought Israel out of Egypt anddelivered you from the power of the Egyptians and of al the kingdoms that were oppressing you."	18 et il dit aux Israélites: "Ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël: Moi, j'ai fait monter Israël d'Egypteet vous ai délivrés de l'emprise de l'Egypte et de tous les royaumes qui vous opprimaient.
19 But today you have rejected your God, him who saves you from al your difficulties and troubles; andyou have said, "No, you must set a king over us." Very well, take your positions before Yahweh, tribe by tribeand clan by clan.'	19 Mais vous, aujourd'hui, vous avez rejeté votre Dieu, celui qui vous sauvait de tous vos maux etde toutes vos angoisses, et vous avez dit: Non, mais établis sur nous un roi!" Maintenant, comparaissez devantYahvé par tribus et par clans."
20 Samuel then made al the tribes of Israel come forward, and the lot indicated the tribe of Benjamin.	20 Samuel fit approcher toutes les tribus d'Israël et la tribu de Benjamin fut désignée par le sort.
21 He then made the tribe of Benjamin come forward clan by clan, and the lot indicated the clan ofMatri; he then made the clan of Matri come forward one by one, and the lot indicated Saul son of Kish, but whenthey looked for him, he was not to be found.	21 Il fit approcher la tribu de Benjamin par clans, et le clan de Matri fut désigné. Il fit approcher leclan de Matri homme par homme, et Saül, fils de Qish, fut désigné; on le chercha, mais on ne le trouva pas.
22 Again they consulted Yahweh, 'Has the man come here?' Yahweh replied, 'There he is, hidingamong the baggage.'	22 On consulta encore Yahvé: "L'homme est-il venu ici?" Et Yahvé répondit: "Le voilà cachéparmi les bagages."
23 So they ran and fetched him out and, as he stood among the people, he was head and shoulderstal er than any of them.	23 On courut l'y prendre et il se présenta au milieu du peuple: de l'épaule et au-dessus, il dépassaittout le monde.
24 Samuel then said to all the people, 'You have seen the man whom Yahweh has chosen, and thatamong the whole people he has no equal.' And all the people acclaimed him, shouting, 'Long live the king!'	24 Samuel dit à tout le peuple: "Avez-vous vu celui qu'a choisi Yahvé? Il n'a pas son pareil danstout le peuple." Et tous poussèrent des acclamations et crièrent: "Vive le roi!"
25 Samuel then explained the king's constitutional position to the people and inscribed this in a bookwhich he placed before Yahweh. Samuel then sent al the people away, everyone back to his home.	25 Samuel exposa au peuple le droit du roi et il l'écrivit dans un livre qu'il déposa devant Yahvé.Puis Samuel renvoya le peuple chacun chez soi.
26 Saul too went home to Gibeah and with him went those strong men whose hearts God had touched.	26 Saül aussi rentra chez lui à Gibéa, et partirent avec lui les vaillants dont Dieu avait touché lecoeur.
27 But there were some scoundrels who said, 'How can this fellow save us?' These treated him withcontempt and offered him no present.	27 Mais des vauriens dirent: "Comment celui-là nous sauverait-il?" Ils le méprisèrent et ne luioffrirent pas de présent. Environ un mois après,
