Revelation 9

1 Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fal en from heaven onto the earth, andthe angel was given the key to the shaft leading down to the Abyss.	1 - E il quinto angelo diè fiato alla tromba, e vidi una stella caduta dal cielo sulla terra, e le fu data la chiave del pozzo dell'abisso.
2 When he unlocked the shaft of the Abyss, smoke rose out of the Abyss like the smoke from a hugefurnace so that the sun and the sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss,	2 E aprì il pozzo dell'abisso, e salì fumo dal pozzo come fumo di gran fornace, e s'oscurò il sole e l'aria per il fumo del pozzo.
3 and out of the smoke dropped locusts onto the earth: they were given the powers that scorpions haveon the earth:	3 E dal fumo del pozzo uscirono locuste sulla terra, e fu dato loro un potere, come l'hanno gli scorpioni della terra.
4 they were forbidden to harm any fields or crops or trees and told to attack only those people who werewithout God's seal on their foreheads.	4 E fu detto loro di non danneggiare l'erba della terra, nè verzura alcuna, nè verun albero, ma solo gli uomini che non hanno il sigillo di Dio sulle lor fronti.
5 They were not to kil them, but to give them anguish for five months, and the anguish was to be theanguish of a scorpion's sting.	5 E fu detto loro non d'ucciderli, ma di tormentarli cinque mesi; e il loro tormento [è] come il tormento [prodotto] dallo scorpione, quando colpisce l'uomo.
6 When this happens, people wil long for death and not find it anywhere; they wil want to die and deathwil evade them.	6 E in quei giorni gli uomini cercheranno la morte e non la troveranno, e brameranno di morire e fuggirà da loro la morte.
7 These locusts looked like horses armoured for battle; they had what looked like gold crowns on theirheads, and their faces looked human,	7 E le sembianze delle locuste [eran] simili a cavalli preparati a battaglia, e sulle loro teste [c'eran] come corone simili a oro, e le lor facce come facce d'uomini;
8 and their hair was like women's hair, and teeth like lion's teeth.	8 e avevan capelli come capelli di donne, e i loro denti eran come denti di leoni.
9 They had body-armour like iron breastplates, and the noise of their wings sounded like the racket ofchariots with many horses charging.	9 E avevan corazze come corazze di ferro, e la voce delle loro ali [era] come voce di carri da' molti cavalli correnti a battaglia.
10 Their tails were like scorpions' tails, with stings, and with their tails they were able to torture people forfive months.	10 E avevan code simili a scorpioni, e c'eran pungiglioni nelle lor code, e il potere loro [era] di far male agli uomini per cinque mesi.
11 As their leader they had their emperor, the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon,and in Greek Apol yon.	11 Avevan su loro come re l'angelo dell'abisso, il cui nome in ebraico è «Abbadòn», e in greco «Apollyon», e in latino ha il nome di «Sterminatore».
12 That was the first of the disasters; there are stil two more to come.	12 Il primo «Guai!» è passato; ed ecco vengono ancora due «Guai!» dopo ciò.
13 The sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a single voice issuing from the four horns of the goldenaltar in God's presence.	13 E il sesto angelo diè fiato alla tromba, e udii una voce dai quattro angoli dell'altare d'oro ch'è al cospetto di Dio,
14 It spoke to the sixth angel with the trumpet, and said, 'Release the four angels that are chained up atthe great river Euphrates.'	14 la quale diceva al sesto angelo che aveva la tromba: «Sciogli i quattro angeli che stan legati presso il gran fiume Eufrate».
15 These four angels had been ready for this hour of this day of this month of this year, and ready todestroy a third of the human race.	15 E furon sciolti i quattro angeli, ch'eran stati preparati per l'ora e il giorno e il mese e l'anno, perchè uccidessero la terza parte degli uomini.
16 I learnt how many there were in their army: twice ten thousand times ten thousand mounted men.	16 E il numero dell'esercito a cavallo [che stava a' loro ordini] era di duecento milioni: ne udii il numero.
17 In my vision I saw the horses, and the riders with their breastplates of flame colour, hyacinth-blue andsulphur-yel ow; the horses had lions' heads, and fire, smoke and sulphur were coming from their mouths.	17 E i cavalli e que' che ci stavan sopra li vidi nella visione così: avevan corazze di fuoco, di giacinto e di zolfo, e le teste de' cavalli [eran] come teste di leoni, e dalle lor bocche usciva fuoco e fumo e zolfo.
18 It was by these three plagues, the fire, the smoke and the sulphur coming from their mouths, that theone third of the human race was killed.	18 Da queste tre piaghe furono uccisi la terza parte degli uomini: dal fuoco e dal fumo e dallo zolfo che usciva dalle lor bocche.
19 Al the horses' power was in their mouths and their tails: their tails were like snakes, and had headswhich inflicted wounds.	19 Perchè il potere di [que'] cavalli è nella lor bocca e nelle loro code: le code loro infatti son simili a serpenti e han teste, e con esse offendono.
20 But the rest of the human race, who escaped death by these plagues, refused either to abandon theirown handiwork or to stop worshipping devils, the idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood that canneither see nor hear nor move.	20 E il resto degli uomini, che non furono uccisi da queste piaghe, non si ravvidero dalle opere delle lor mani, sì da non [più] adorare i demoni e gli idoli d'oro e d'argento e di bronzo e di pietra e di legno, che non posson nè vedere nè udire nè camminare;
21 Nor did they give up their murdering, or witchcraft, or fornication or stealing.	21 e non si ravvidero [neppure] dai loro omicidii nè dalle loro malie nè dalla loro fornicazione nè dalle loro ruberie.
