1 Again the Israelites began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes, and Yahweh delivered them into thepower of the Philistines for forty years.	1 Les Israélites recommencèrent à faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé, et lui les livra entre les mains des Philistins pendant 40 ans.
2 There was a man of Zorah of the tribe of Dan, cal ed Manoah. His wife was barren; she had borne nochildren.	2 Il y avait un homme de Soréa, de la tribu de Dan, qui s’appelait Manoa. Sa femme était stérile et n’avait pas enfanté.
3 The Angel of Yahweh appeared to this woman and said to her, 'You are barren and have had no child,but you are going to conceive and give birth to a son.	3 L’Ange de Yahvé apparut à la femme et lui dit: “Jusqu’à présent tu étais stérile, et tu n’as pas enfanté, mais tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils.
4 From now on, take great care. Drink no wine or fermented liquor, and eat nothing unclean.	4 Maintenant donc, fais attention à ne plus boire ni vin ni boisson enivrante, et ne mange rien d’impur
5 For you are going to conceive and give birth to a son. No razor is to touch his head, for the boy is to beGod's nazirite from his mother's womb; and he wil start rescuing Israel from the power of the Philistines.'	5 à cause de ce fils que tu vas concevoir et enfanter. Car dès le sein de sa mère le garçon sera consacré à Dieu: le rasoir ne passera pas sur sa tête, et c’est lui qui commencera à libérer Israël de la main des Philistins.”
6 The woman then went and told her husband, 'A man of God has just come to me, who looked like theAngel of God, so majestic was he. I did not ask him where he came from, and he did not tel me his name.	6 De retour chez elle, la femme parla à son mari et lui dit: “Un homme de Dieu est venu vers moi. Il était majestueux: on aurait dit un ange de Dieu. Mais je ne lui ai pas demandé d’où il venait et il ne m’a pas fait connaître son nom.
7 But he said to me, "You are going to conceive and wil give birth to a son. From now on, drink no wineor fermented liquor, and eat nothing unclean. For the boy is to be God's nazirite from his mother's womb to hisdying day." '	7 Il m’a dit ceci: ‘Tu vas concevoir et enfanter un fils. Aussi, dès maintenant, ne bois plus ni vin ni boisson enivrante, et ne mange rien d’impur, car le garçon sera consacré à Dieu dès le sein de sa mère et jusqu’au jour de sa mort.’ ”
8 Manoah then pleaded with Yahweh and said, 'I beg you, Lord, let the man of God that you sent cometo us again and instruct us what to do about the child when he is born.'	8 Alors Manoa supplia Yahvé: “De grâce Mon Seigneur! Que l’homme de Dieu que tu as envoyé revienne vers nous pour nous dire comment faire avec le garçon qui va naître.”
9 Yahweh heard Manoah's prayer, and the Angel of Yahweh visited the woman again while she wassitting in a field and when her husband Manoah was not with her.	9 Dieu entendit la voix de Manoa et l’ange de Dieu vint encore une fois vers la femme, alors qu’elle était assise dans les champs. Mais son mari Manoa n’était pas avec elle.
10 The woman quickly ran and told her husband, 'Look,' she said, 'the man who came to me the otherday has appeared to me again.'	10 La femme courut aussitôt avertir son mari: “Je viens de revoir l’homme qui est venu me trouver l’autre jour.”
11 Manoah got up, followed his wife, came to the man and said to him, 'Are you the man who spoke tothis woman?' He replied, 'I am.'	11 Manoa se leva et suivit sa femme. Il arriva où était l’homme et lui demanda: “Tu es bien l’homme qui a parlé à cette femme?” Il répondit: “Oui, c’est moi.”
12 Manoah then said, 'When your words come true, what wil be the boy's way of life?'	12 Manoa lui dit: “Si ce que tu as dit se réalise, quelle règle suivrons-nous pour ce garçon, que devra-t-il faire?”
13 The Angel of Yahweh replied to Manoah, 'From everything that I forbade this woman, let her abstain.	13 L’Ange de Yahvé répondit à Manoa: “La femme s’abstiendra de tout ce que j’ai dit.
14 Let her swal ow nothing that comes from the vine, let her drink no wine or fermented liquor, let her eatnothing unclean and let her obey al the orders that I have given her.'	14 Elle ne mangera d’aucun produit de la vigne, elle ne boira ni vin ni boisson enivrante, elle ne mangera rien d’impur: elle observera tout ce que je lui ai commandé.”
15 Manoah then said to the Angel of Yahweh, 'Al ow us to detain you while we prepare a kid for you' --for Manoah did not know that this was the Angel of Yahweh.	15 Manoa dit à l’ange de Yahvé: “Permets que nous te retenions et que nous préparions un chevreau.”
16 The Angel of Yahweh said to Manoah, 'Even if you did detain me, I should not eat your food; but ifyou wish to prepare a burnt offering, offer it to Yahweh.'	16 Mais l’ange de Yahvé répondit à Manoa: “Même si tu me retenais, je ne mangerais pas de ton pain. Cependant, si tu veux offrir un holocauste à Yahvé, offre-le.” Manoa en effet, ne savait pas que c’était l’Ange de Yahvé.
17 Manoah then said to the Angel of Yahweh, 'What is your name, so that we may honour you whenyour words come true?'	17 Alors Manoa dit à l’Ange de Yahvé: “Quel est ton nom? Nous voudrions pouvoir te remercier lorsque tes paroles se réaliseront.”
18 The Angel of Yahweh replied, 'Why ask my name? It is a name of wonder.'	18 L’Ange de Yahvé lui dit: “Pourquoi me demandes-tu mon nom? Il est mystérieux.”
19 Manoah then took the kid and the oblation and offered it on the rock as a burnt offering to Yahwehthe Wonderworker. Manoah and his wife looked on.	19 Manoa prit le chevreau et une offrande et les disposa sur le rocher en l’honneur de Yahvé et de cet être mystérieux que Manoa et sa femme pouvaient voir.
20 Now, as the flame rose heavenwards from the altar, the Angel of Yahweh ascended in this flamebefore the eyes of Manoah and his wife, and they fel face downwards on the ground.	20 Or, comme la flamme s’élevait au-dessus de l’autel vers les cieux, il arriva que l’Ange de Yahvé monta dans la flamme de l’autel. À cette vue, Manoa et sa femme tombèrent la face contre terre.
21 After this, the Angel of Yahweh did not appear any more to Manoah and his wife, but Manoahunderstood that this had been the Angel of Yahweh.	21 Quant à l’Ange de Yahvé, il disparut aux yeux de Manoa et de sa femme. Alors Manoa comprit que c’était l’Ange de Yahvé.
22 And Manoah said to his wife, 'We are certain to die, because we have seen God.'	22 Manoa dit à sa femme: “Nous allons mourir, car nous avons vu un Dieu.”
23 His wife replied, 'If Yahweh had meant to kil us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering andoblation from us, he would not have let us see all this and, at the same time, have told us such things.'	23 Mais sa femme lui répondit: “Si Yahvé voulait nous faire mourir, il n’aurait accepté ni notre holocauste ni notre offrande. Il ne nous aurait pas montré tout cela et aujourd’hui même, nous aurait-il fait entendre pareille promesse?”
24 The woman gave birth to a son and cal ed him Samson. The child grew, and Yahweh blessed him;	24 C’est ainsi que la femme mit au monde un fils à qui elle donna le nom de Samson. Le garçon grandit et Yahvé le bénit;
25 and the spirit of Yahweh began to stir him in the Camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.	25 l’esprit de Yahvé commença à s’emparer de lui au Camp-de-Dan, entre Soréa et Echtaol.
