1 The men of Ephraim mobilised; they crossed the Jordan near Zaphon and said to Jephthah, 'Why didyou go and make war on the Ammonites without asking us to go with you? We shal burn down your house overyour head!'	1 Les hommes d’Éphraïm se rassemblèrent et traversèrent à la hauteur de Saphon. Ils dirent à Jephté: “Pourquoi es-tu parti combattre les Ammonites et ne nous as-tu pas invités pour aller avec toi? Nous allons brûler sur toi ta maison.”
2 Jephthah replied, 'My people and I were in serious conflict with the Ammonites. I summoned you, butyou did not come to rescue me from them.	2 Mais Jephté leur répondit: “Moi et mon peuple, nous étions en conflit avec les Ammonites. Je vous ai appelés mais vous ne m’avez pas délivré de leurs mains.
3 When I saw that no one was coming to rescue me, I took my life in my hands and marched against theAmmonites, and Yahweh handed them over to me. So why advance on me today to make war on me?'	3 Quand j’ai vu que vous ne veniez pas me délivrer, j’ai risqué ma vie. J’ai engagé le combat contre les Ammonites et Yahvé les a livrés entre mes mains. Est-ce une raison pour venir maintenant m’attaquer?”
4 Jephthah then mustered al the men of Gilead and made war on Ephraim, and the men of Gileaddefeated Ephraim -- since the latter used to say, 'You are only fugitives from Ephraim, you Gileadites in the heartof Ephraim and Manasseh.'	4 Jephté rassembla tous les hommes de Galaad et engagea le combat contre Éphraïm.
