1 My children, I am writing this to prevent you from sinning; but if anyone does sin, we have an advocatewith the Father, Jesus Christ, the upright.	1 Figliuolini miei, scrivo a voi queste cose, affinchè non pecchiate. Che se alcuno avrà peccato, un avvocato abbiamo presso del Padre, Gesù Cristo giusto:
2 He is the sacrifice to expiate our sins, and not only ours, but also those of the whole world.	2 Ed egli è propiziazione pe' nostri peccati: né solamente pe' nostri, ma anche per quelli di tutto il mondo.
3 In this way we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.	3 E da questo sappiamo, che lo abbiam conosciuto, se osserviamo i suoi comandamenti.
4 Whoever says, 'I know him' without keeping his commandments, is a liar, and truth has no place in him.	4 Chi dice che lo conosce, e non oserva i suoi comandamenti, è bugiardo, e non è in costui verità.
5 But anyone who does keep his word, in such a one God's love truly reaches its perfection. This is theproof that we are in God.	5 Ma chi osserva la parola di lui, in questo veramente è perfetta la carità di Dio: e da questo sappiamo, che siamo in lui.
6 Whoever claims to remain in him must act as he acted.	6 Chi dice di stare in lui, dee batter la strada, che quegli battè.
7 My dear friends, this is not a new commandment I am writing for you, but an old commandment that youhave had from the beginning; the old commandment is the message you have heard.	7 Carissimi, io non vi scrivo un comandamento nuovo, ma un comandamento vecchio, quale voi riceveste da principio: il comandamento vecchio è la parola, che udiste.
8 Yet in another way, I am writing a new commandment for you -- and this is true for you, just as much asfor him -- for darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.	8 Pel contrario un comandamento nuovo scrivo a voi, il quale è vero in lui, ed in voi: dappoiché sono passate le tenebre, e il vero lume già splende.
9 Whoever claims to be in light but hates his brother is still in darkness.	9 Chi dice se essere nella luce, e odia il proprio fratello, è tuttora nelle tenebre.
10 Anyone who loves his brother remains in light and there is in him nothing to make him fall away.	10 Chi ama il proprio fratello, sta nella luce, e non vi ha in lui scandalo.
11 But whoever hates his brother is in darkness and is walking about in darkness not knowing where he isgoing, because darkness has blinded him.	11 Ma chi odia il proprio fratello, è nelle tenebre, e nelle tenebre cammina, e non sa, dove vada: perché le tenebre hanno accecati gli occhi di lui.
12 I am writing to you, children, because your sins have been forgiven through his name.	12 Scrivo a voi, figliuolini, che vi sono rimessi i peccati pel nome di lui.
13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you have come to know the One who has existed since thebeginning. I am writing to you, young people, because you have overcome the Evil One.	13 Scrivo a voi, padri, che avete conosciuto colui, che è da principio. 14 I have written to you, children, because you have come to know the Father. I have written to you,parents, because you have come to know the One who has existed since the beginning. I have written to you,young people, because you are strong, and God's word remains in you, and you have overcome the Evil One.	14 Scrivo a voi, fanciulli che avete conosciuto il Padre. Scrivo a voi, o giovinetti, che siete forti, e la parola di Dio sta in voi, ed avete vinto il maligno.
15 Do not love the world or what is in the world. If anyone does love the world, the love of the Father findsno place in him,	15 Non vogliate amare il mondo, né le cose del mondo. Se uno ama il mondo, la carità del Padre non è in lui.
16 because everything there is in the world -- disordered bodily desires, disordered desires of the eyes,pride in possession -- is not from the Father but is from the world.	16 Dappoiché tutto quello, che è nel mondo è concupiscenza della carne, concupiscenza degli occhi, e superbia della vita: la quale non viene dal padre, ma dal mondo.
17 And the world, with al its disordered desires, is passing away. But whoever does the will of Godremains for ever.	17 E il mondo passa, e la di lui con cupiscenza. Ma chi fa il volere di Dio, dura in eterno.
18 Children, this is the final hour; you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and now many Antichristshave already come; from this we know that it is the final hour.	18 Figliuolini, ell'è l'ultima ora: e siccome udiste, che l'Anticristo viene, anche adesso molti sono diventati Anticristi: donde intendiamo, che è l'ultim' ora.
19 They have gone from among us, but they never real y belonged to us; if they had belonged to us, theywould have stayed with us. But this was to prove that not one of them belonged to us.	19 Sono usciti di tra noi, ma non erano de' nostri: perché se fossero stati de' nostri, si sarebbon certamente rimasi con noi: ma si dee far manifesto, che non tutti sono de' nostri.
20 But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and have al received knowledge.	20 Ma voi avete l'unzione dal santo, e sapete ogni cosa.
21 I have written to you not because you are ignorant of the truth, but because you are wel aware of it,and because no lie can come from the truth.	21 Non vi ho scritto come ad ignoranti la verità, ma come a tali, che la sanno: e che nissuna bugia vien dalla verità.
22 Who is the liar, if not one who claims that Jesus is not the Christ? This is the Antichrist, who deniesboth the Father and the Son.	22 Chi è bugiardo se non colui, che nega, che Gesù sia il Cristo? Costui è un Anticristo, che nega il Padre, e il Figliuolo.
23 Whoever denies the Son cannot have the Father either; whoever acknowledges the Son has theFather too.	23 Chi nega il Figliuolo, non ha nemmeno il Padre: chi confessa il Figliuolo, ha anche il Padre.
24 Let what you heard in the beginning remain in you; as long as what you heard in the beginningremains in you, you will remain in the Son and in the Father.	24 Quello, che voi udiste da principio, stia fermo in voi: se in voi starà fermo quello, che udiste da principio, anche voi starete fermi nel Padre, e nel Figliuolo.
25 And the promise he made you himself is eternal life.	25 E questa è quella promessa, che egli ha fatto a noi, la vita eterna.
26 So much have I written to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.	26 Queste cose vi ho scritto riguardo a quelli, che vi seducono.
27 But as for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone toteach you; since the anointing he gave you teaches you everything, and since it is true, not false, remain in himjust as he has taught you.	27 Ma resti in voi l'unzione, che avete da lui ricevuta. Né avete bisogno, che alcuno vi ammaestri: ma siccome l'unzione di lui insegna a voi tutte le cose, ed è verace, e non bugiarda. E siccome ha a voi insegnato: statevi in lui.
28 Therefore remain in him now, children, so that when he appears we may be fearless, and not shrinkfrom him in shame at his coming.	28 Adesso adunque, figliuolini, state in lui: affinchè quand' egli apparirà, abbiamo fiducia, e non siamo nella sua venuta svergognati da lui.
29 If you know that he is upright you must recognise that everyone whose life is upright is a child of his.	29 Se sapete, che egli è giusto, sappiate eziandio, che chiunque pratica la giustizia, é nato di lui.
