1 Rid yourselves, then, of al spite, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and carping criticism.	1 - Adunque, rigettate da voi ogni malizia, ogni frode, ogni specie d'ipocrisia, d'invidia e di maldicenza.
2 Like new-born babies al your longing should be for milk -- the unadulterated spiritual milk -- which willhelp you to grow up to salvation,	2 Come bambini di fresco nati, siate bramosi del latte spirituale purissimo, affinchè con esso possiate crescere a salute;
3 at any rate if you have tasted that the Lord is good .	3 se pure avete gustato che è dolce il Signore.
4 He is the living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen by God and precious to him; set yourselvesclose to him	4 Accostatevi a Lui, alla pietra viva, rifiutata, è vero, dagli uomini, ma scelta e onorata da Dio;
5 so that you, too, may be living stones making a spiritual house as a holy priesthood to offer the spiritualsacrifices made acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.	5 e voi pure come pietre vive siete edificati sopra di Lui, [per essere] una casa spirituale, un sacerdozio santo, per offrire vittime spirituali, gradite a Dio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo.
6 As scripture says: Now I am laying a stone in Zion, a chosen, precious cornerstone and no one whorelies on this wil be brought to disgrace.	6 Perciò è detto nella Scrittura: Ecco, io pongo in Sion una pietra principale, angolare, scelta, preziosa: e chi in lei crederà non rimarrà confuso .
7 To you believers it brings honour. But for unbelievers, it is rather a stone which the builders rejectedthat became a cornerstone,	7 Per voi dunque, che credete, essa è di onore; mentre per quelli che non credono, la pietra rigettata dai costruttori è divenuta la pietra angolare,
8 a stumbling stone, a rock to trip people up. They stumble over it because they do not believe in theWord; it was the fate in store for them.	8 e pietra d'inciampo e pietra di scandalo per coloro che urtano nella parola e non credono, mentre a questo erano pure destinati.
9 But you are a chosen race, a kingdom of priests, a holy nation, a people to be a personal possession tosing the praises of God who cal ed you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.	9 Ma voi [siete] stirpe eletta, sacerdozio regale, gente santa, popolo d'acquisto, affinchè proclamiate le virtù di Colui, che dalle tenebre vi ha chiamati alla sua meravigliosa luce;
10 Once you were a non-people and now you are the People of God; once you were outside his pity; nowyou have received pity.	10 voi, che un tempo non eravate un popolo, ma ora siete il popolo di Dio; voi, che [prima] non foste partecipi della misericordia, ora invece partecipate della misericordia.
11 I urge you, my dear friends, as strangers and nomads, to keep yourselves free from the disorderednatural inclinations that attack the soul.	11 Carissimi, io vi scongiuro che, come forestieri e pellegrini, vi asteniate dai desiderii carnali, che fan guerra all'anima.
12 Always behave honourably among gentiles so that they can see for themselves what moral lives youlead, and when the day of reckoning comes, give thanks to God for the things which now make them denounceyou as criminals.	12 Tenete tra i Gentili una condotta onesta, affinchè se sparlan di voi come di malfattori, essi, considerando le vostre opere buone, diano gloria a Dio nel giorno in cui li visiterà.
13 For the sake of the Lord, accept the authority of every human institution: the emperor, as the supremeauthority,	13 Siate dunque soggetti, per amor del Signore, ad ogni istituzione umana: tanto al re, come [colui che è] sopra tutti,
14 and the governors as commissioned by him to punish criminals and praise those who do good.	14 quanto ai governatori, come spediti da lui per far vendetta dei malfattori e per onorare i buoni.
15 It is God's will that by your good deeds you should silence the ignorant talk of fools.	15 Tale infatti è la volontà di Dio, che facendo il bene chiudete la bocca all'ignoranza degli uomini stolti;
16 You are slaves of no one except God, so behave like free people, and never use your freedom as acover for wickedness.	16 come liberi senza farvi della libertà un manto per coprire la malizia, ma quali servi di Dio.
17 Have respect for everyone and love for your fel ow-believers; fear God and honour the emperor.	17 Rispettate tutti; amate i fratelli; temete Iddio; rendete onore al re.
18 Slaves, you should obey your masters respectful y, not only those who are kind and reasonable butalso those who are difficult to please.	18 Servi, siate soggetti con ogni timore ai vostri padroni, non solo ai buoni e modesti, ma anche a quelli che son difficili.
19 You see, there is merit if, in awareness of God, you put up with the pains of undeserved punishment;	19 Poichè è una grazia, se per riguardo a Dio uno sopporta molestie, soffrendo ingiustamente.
20 but what glory is there in putting up with a beating after you have done something wrong? The merit inthe sight of God is in putting up with it patiently when you are punished for doing your duty.	20 Infatti quale gloria c'è quando si soffre, perchè si è peccato e si è puniti? Ma se vi tocca patire quando fate del bene, e voi lo sopportate pazientemente, codesta è grazia presso Dio.
21 This, in fact, is what you were called to do, because Christ suffered for you and left an example for youto fol ow in his steps.	21 A questo infatti siete stati chiamati, perchè anche Cristo ha sofferto per noi, lasciando a voi l'esempio, affinchè seguiate le sue orme.
22 He had done nothing wrong, and had spoken no deceit.	22 Egli non fece mai peccato e mai sul labbro di lui fu trovato inganno.
23 He was insulted and did not retaliate with insults; when he was suffering he made no threats but puthis trust in the upright judge.	23 Maledetto, non malediceva; soffrendo, non minacciava; anzi si rimetteva nelle mani di chi ingiustamente lo giudicava.
24 He was bearing our sins in his own body on the cross, so that we might die to our sins and live foruprightness; through his bruises you have been healed.	24 Egli stesso ha portato i nostri peccati sul suo corpo, sul legno [della croce], affinchè, morti al peccato viviamo per la giustizia, risanati dalle sue piaghe.
25 You had gone astray like sheep but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of yoursouls.	25 Infatti eravate come pecore erranti, ma ora siete ritornati al pastore e vescovo delle anime vostre.
