NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Only a few of you, my brothers, should be teachers, bearing in mind that we shal receive a stricterjudgement.	1 Non siate in molti a farvi maestri, fratelli miei; sappiate che così riceveremo una sentenza più severa.
2 For we all trip up in many ways. Someone who does not trip up in speech has reached perfection andis able to keep the whole body on a tight rein.	2 Tutti quanti infatti manchiamo in tante cose e se qualcuno non manca nel parlare è un uomo perfetto, in grado di dominare tutto se stesso.
3 Once we put a bit in the horse's mouth, to make it do what we want, we have the whole animal underour control.	3 Se riusciamo a mettere il freno in bocca ai cavalli e ci obbediscono, noi li guidiamo interamente.
4 Or think of ships: no matter how big they are, even if a gale is driving them, they are directed by a tinyrudder wherever the whim of the helmsman decides.	4 Ecco che anche le navi, pur essendo così grandi e spinte da venti impetuosi, sono guidate da un timone minuscolo, a pieno arbitrio del nocchiero.
5 So the tongue is only a tiny part of the body, but its boasts are great. Think how smal a flame can setfire to a huge forest;	5 Così anche la lingua è un membro minuscolo, ma può vantare imprese straordinarie. Ecco quanto piccolo è il fuoco e quanto grande è la foresta che esso incendia!
6 The tongue is a flame too. Among al the parts of the body, the tongue is a whole wicked world: itinfects the whole body; catching fire itself from hel , it sets fire to the whole wheel of creation.	6 E il fuoco è la lingua! Questo mondo di malizia, la lingua, è posta tra le nostre membra: essa che contamina tutta la nostra persona, brucia la ruota della nostra vita ed è poi bruciata essa stessa nell'inferno.
7 Wild animals and birds, reptiles and fish of every kind can al be tamed, and have been tamed, byhumans;	7 Gli animali terrestri, i volatili, i serpenti, gli animali marini, sono stati e vengono domati dall'uomo.
8 but nobody can tame the tongue -- it is a pest that wil not keep stil , ful of deadly poison.	8 Ma nessun uomo può domare la lingua: essa è un male che non dà tregua, è piena di veleno mortale.
9 We use it to bless the Lord and Father, but we also use it to curse people who are made in God'simage:	9 Con essa noi lodiamo Dio, Signore e Padre, e, sempre con essa, malediciamo gli uomini, che sono stati fatti a somiglianza di Dio.
10 the blessing and curse come out of the same mouth. My brothers, this must be wrong-	10 Dalla medesima bocca viene fuori benedizione e maledizione. No, fratelli miei, le cose non devono andare così.
11 does any water supply give a flow of fresh water and salt water out of the same pipe?	11 Può forse la stessa sorgente far zampillare dalla stessa apertura il dolce e l'amaro?
12 Can a fig tree yield olives, my brothers, or a vine yield figs? No more can sea water yield fresh water.	12 Può forse, fratelli miei, un fico produrre delle olive o una vite fichi? Né una sorgente salata può dare acqua dolce.
13 Anyone who is wise or understanding among you should from a good life give evidence of deeds donein the gentleness of wisdom.	13 Chi è sapiente e maestro tra di voi? Mostri le sue opere, fatte nella mansuetudine propria della sapienza e frutto di una condotta genuina.
14 But if at heart you have the bitterness of jealousy, or selfish ambition, do not be boastful or hide thetruth with lies;	14 Se invece avete un'invidia amara e un'ambizione egoistica nei vostri cuori, non vi gloriate: mentirete contro la verità!
15 this is not the wisdom that comes from above, but earthly, human and devilish.	15 Una sapienza di questo genere non è quella che viene dall'alto, ma è terrestre, animalesca, demoniaca:
16 Wherever there are jealousy and ambition, there are also disharmony and wickedness of every kind;	16 dove infatti c'è invidia e ambizione egoistica, là c'è disordine e ogni azione cattiva.
17 whereas the wisdom that comes down from above is essential y something pure; it is also peaceable,kindly and considerate; it is ful of mercy and shows itself by doing good; nor is there any trace of partiality orhypocrisy in it.	17 Mentre la sapienza che viene dall'alto anzitutto è incontaminata, poi è pacifica, benevola, docile, ricolma di misericordia e di buoni frutti, priva di esitazioni, priva di ipocrisia:
18 The peace sown by peacemakers brings a harvest of justice.	18 il frutto della giustificazione viene seminato nella pace da coloro che operano nella pace.
