¹ Only a few of you, my brothers, should be teachers, bearing in mind that we shal receive a stricterjudgement.	¹ Ne akarjatok sokan tanítók lenni, testvéreim, hiszen tudjátok, hogy így súlyosabb ítéletet veszünk magunkra.
² For we all trip up in many ways. Someone who does not trip up in speech has reached perfection andis able to keep the whole body on a tight rein.	² Mert sok mindenben vétünk mindnyájan. Ha valaki a szavában nem hibázik, az tökéletes ember, s az ilyen féken tudja tartani egész testét is.
³ Once we put a bit in the horse's mouth, to make it do what we want, we have the whole animal underour control.	³ Ha ugyanis a lovaknak zablát teszünk a szájába, hogy engedelmeskedjenek nekünk, az egész testüket kormányozzuk.
⁴ Or think of ships: no matter how big they are, even if a gale is driving them, they are directed by a tinyrudder wherever the whim of the helmsman decides.	⁴ Lám, a hajókat is, bár nagyok, és erős szelek hajtják őket, a kis kormánnyrúddal oda irányítják, ahová a kormányos akarata vezeti.

Testrészeink közül a nyelv az, amely beszennyezi egész testünket, s a pokoltól lángra lobbanva egész életünk folyamát lángra gyullasztja.
⁷ Wild animals and birds, reptiles and fish of every kind can al be tamed, and have been tamed, byhumans;	⁷ Mert minden vadállat és madár, kígyó és egyéb állat természetét meg lehet szelídíteni, és meg is szelídíti az ember,
⁸ but nobody can tame the tongue -- it is a pest that wil not keep stil , ful of deadly poison.	⁸ a nyelvet azonban az emberek közül senki sem szelídítheti meg. Nyughatatlan rossz az, telve halálos méreggel.
⁹ We use it to bless the Lord and Father, but we also use it to curse people who are made in God'simage:	⁹ Azzal áldjuk az Istent és az Atyát, és azzal átkozzuk az embereket, akiket Isten a saját képére teremtett .

¹¹ does any water supply give a flow of fresh water and salt water out of the same pipe?	¹¹ Vajon a forrás bocsát-e ki ugyanabból a nyílásból édes és keserű vizet?
¹² Can a fig tree yield olives, my brothers, or a vine yield figs? No more can sea water yield fresh water.	¹² Vajon teremhet-e, testvéreim, a fügefa olajbogyót, vagy a szőlő fügét? Így a sós forrás sem adhat édes vizet.
¹³ Anyone who is wise or understanding among you should from a good life give evidence of deeds donein the gentleness of wisdom.	¹³ Ki a bölcs és képzett közületek? Az ilyen mutassa fel az igaz élet tetteit bölcs szelídségben.
¹⁴ But if at heart you have the bitterness of jealousy, or selfish ambition, do not be boastful or hide thetruth with lies;	¹⁴ De ha keserű irigység van bennetek, és viszálykodás a szívetekben, ne dicsekedjetek és ne hazudjatok, meghazudtolva az igazságot.
¹⁵ this is not the wisdom that comes from above, but earthly, human and devilish.	¹⁵ Mert az ilyen nem felülről jövő bölcsesség, hanem földi, érzéki, ördögi.
¹⁶ Wherever there are jealousy and ambition, there are also disharmony and wickedness of every kind;	¹⁶ Ahol ugyanis irigység és versengés van, ott állhatatlanság is, és minden rossz cselekedet.
¹⁷ whereas the wisdom that comes down from above is essential y something pure; it is also peaceable,kindly and considerate; it is ful of mercy and shows itself by doing good; nor is there any trace of partiality orhypocrisy in it.	¹⁷ Az a bölcsesség pedig, amely felülről származik, először is szemérmes, azután békeszerető, szerény, engedékeny, telve van irgalommal és jó gyümölcsökkel, nem ítélkezik, s nincs benne tettetés.
¹⁸ The peace sown by peacemakers brings a harvest of justice.	¹⁸ Az igazság gyümölcsét pedig békességben vetik el a békeszeretők.
