At many moments in the past and by many means, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets;but1 In many places and in many ways, in past times, God spoke to the fathers through the Prophets;
in our time, the final days, he has spoken to us in the person of his Son, whom he appointed heir of althings and through whom he made the ages.2 lastly, in these days, he has spoken to us through the Son, whom he appointed as the heir of all things, and through whom he made the world.
He is the reflection of God's glory and bears the impress of God's own being, sustaining all things byhis powerful command; and now that he has purged sins away, he has taken his seat at the right hand of thedivine Majesty on high.3 And since the Son is the brightness of his glory, and the figure of his substance, and is carrying all things by the Word of his virtue, thereby accomplishing a purging of sins, he sits at the right hand of Majesty on high.
So he is now as far above the angels as the title which he has inherited is higher than their own name.4 And having been made so much better than the Angels, he has inherited a name so much greater than theirs.
To which of the angels, then, has God ever said: You are my Son, today I have fathered you, or: I shalbe a father to him and he a son to me?5 For to which of the Angels has he ever said: “You are my Son; today have I begotten you?” Or again: “I will be a Father to him, and he shall be a Son to me?”
Again, when he brings the First-born into the world, he says: Let all the angels of God pay him homage.6 And again, when he brings the only-begotten Son into the world, he says: “And let all the Angels of God adore him.”
To the angels, he says: appointing the winds his messengers and flames of fire his servants,7 And about the Angels, certainly, he says: “He makes his Angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.”
but to the Son he says: Your throne, God, is for ever and ever; and: the sceptre of his kingdom is asceptre of justice;8 But about the Son: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of equity.
you love uprightness and detest evil. This is why God, your God, has anointed you with the oil ofgladness, as none of your rivals.9 You have loved justice, and you have hated iniquity. Because of this, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of exultation, above your companions.”
And again: Long ago, Lord, you laid earth's foundations, the heavens are the work of your hands.10 And: “In the beginning, O Lord, you founded the earth. And the heavens are the work of your hands.
They pass away but you remain, they al wear out like a garment.11 These shall pass away, but you will remain. And all will grow old like a garment.
Like a cloak you wil rol them up, like a garment, and they wil be changed. But you never alter andyour years are unending.12 And you will change them like a cloak, and they shall be changed. Yet you are ever the same, and your years will not diminish.”
To which of the angels has God ever said: Take your seat at my right hand til I have made yourenemies your footstool?13 But to which of the Angels has he ever said: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool?”
Are they not al ministering spirits, sent to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?14 Are they not all spirits of ministration, sent to minister for the sake of those who shall receive the inheritance of salvation?
