NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 From Paul, servant of God, an apostle of Jesus Christ to bring those whom God has chosen to faith andto the knowledge of the truth that leads to true religion,	1 Pablo, siervo de Dios, apóstol de Jesucristo para llevar a los escogidos de Dios a la fe y al pleno conocimiento de la verdad que es conforme a la piedad,
2 and to give them the hope of the eternal life that was promised so long ago by God. He does not lie	2 con la esperanza de vida eterna, prometida desde toda la eternidad por Dios que no miente,
3 and so, in due time, he made known his message by a proclamation which was entrusted to me by thecommand of God our Saviour.	3 y que en el tiempo oportuno ha manifestado su Palabra por la predicación a mí encomendada según el mandato de Dios nuestro Salvador,
4 To Titus, true child of mine in the faith that we share. Grace and peace from God the Father and fromChrist Jesus our Saviour.	4 a Tito, verdadero hijo según la fe común. Gracia y paz de parte de Dios Padre y de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Salvador.
5 The reason I left you behind in Crete was for you to organise everything that stil had to be done andappoint elders in every town, in the way that I told you,	5 El motivo de haberte dejado en Creta, fue para que acabaras de organizar lo que faltaba y establecieras presbíteros en cada ciudad, como yo te ordené.
6 that is, each of them must be a man of irreproachable character, husband of one wife, and his childrenmust be believers and not liable to be charged with disorderly conduct or insubordination.	6 El candidato debe ser irreprochable, casado una sola vez, cuyos hijos sean creyentes, no tachados de libertinaje ni de rebeldía.
7 The presiding elder has to be irreproachable since he is God's representative: never arrogant or hot-tempered, nor a heavy drinker or violent, nor avaricious;	7 Porque el epíscopo, como administrador de Dios, debe ser irreprochable; no arrogante, no colérico, no bebedor, no violento, no dado a negocios sucios;
8 but hospitable and a lover of goodness; sensible, upright, devout and self-control ed;	8 sino hospitalario, amigo del bien, sensato, justo, piadoso, dueño de sí.
9 and he must have a firm grasp of the unchanging message of the tradition, so that he can be counted onboth for giving encouragement in sound doctrine and for refuting those who argue against it.	9 Que esté adherido a la palabra fiel, conforme a la enseñanza, para que sea capaz de exhortar con la sana doctrina y refutar a los que contradicen.
10 And in fact there are many people who are insubordinate, who talk nonsense and try to make othersbelieve it, particularly among those of the circumcision.	10 Porque hay muchos rebeldes, vanos habladores y embaucadores, sobre todo entre los de la circuncisión,
11 They must be silenced: people of this kind upset whole families, by teaching things that they ought notto, and doing it for the sake of sordid gain.	11 a quienes es menester tapar la boca; hombres que trastornan familias enteras, enseñando por torpe ganancia lo que no deben.
12 It was one of themselves, one of their own prophets, who said, 'Cretans were never anything but liars,dangerous animals, al greed and laziness';	12 Uno de ellos, profeta suyo, dijo: «Los cretenses son siempre mentirosos, malas bestias, vientres perezosos».
13 and that is a true statement. So be severe in correcting them, and make them sound in the faith	13 Este testimonio es verdadero. Por tanto repréndeles severamente, a fin de que conserven sana la fe,
14 so that they stop taking notice of Jewish myths and the orders of people who turn away from the truth.	14 y no den oídos a fábulas judaicas, ni a mandamientos de hombres que se apartan de la verdad.
15 To those who are pure themselves, everything is pure; but to those who have been corrupted and lackfaith, nothing can be pure -- the corruption is both in their minds and in their consciences.	15 Para los limpios todo es limpio; mas para los contaminados e incrédulos nada hay limpio, pues su mente y conciencia están contaminadas.
16 They claim to know God but by their works they deny him; they are outrageously rebellious and quiteuntrustworthy for any good work.	16 Profesan conocer a Dios, mas con sus obras le niegan; son abominables y rebeldes e incapaces de toda obra buena.
