Joshua 6

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Now, Jericho had shut and barricaded its gates (against the Israelites): no one came out and no onewent in.	1 Jericó, cidade murada, tinha se fechado diante dos israelitas, e ninguém saía dela nem podia entrar.
2 Yahweh then said to Joshua, 'Look, I am putting Jericho, its picked troops and its king, at your mercy.	2 O Senhor disse a Josué: Vê, entreguei-te Jericó, seu rei e seus valentes guerreiros.
3 Al you warriors must march round the city (go right round the city once, doing the same on sixsuccessive days.	3 Dai volta à cidade, vós todos, homens de guerra; contornai toda a cidade uma vez. Assim farás durante seis dias.
4 Seven priests must carry seven ram's-horn trumpets in front of the ark. On the seventh day, you wil goseven times round the city and the priests wil blow their trumpets).	4 Sete sacerdotes, tocando sete trombetas, irão adiante da arca. No sétimo dia dareis sete vezes volta à cidade, tocando os sacerdotes a trombeta.
5 When the ram's horn sounds (when you hear the sound of the trumpet), the entire people must utter amighty war cry and the city wall wil col apse then and there; the people wil then go into the assault, each manstraight ahead.'	5 Quando o som da trombeta for mais forte e ouvirdes a sua voz, todo o povo soltará um grande clamor e a muralha da cidade desabará. Então o povo tomará {de assalto} a cidade, cada um no lugar que lhe ficar defronte.
6 Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and said to them, 'Take up the ark of the covenant, and letseven priests carry seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of the ark of Yahweh.'	6 Josué, filho de Nun, convocou os sacerdotes e disse-lhes: Levai a arca da aliança, e sete sacerdotes estejam diante dela tocando as trombetas.
7 To the people he then said, 'Forward! March round the city, and let the vanguard march ahead of theark of Yahweh!'	7 E disse em seguida ao povo: Avante! Dai volta à cidade, marchando os guerreiros diante da arca do Senhor.
8 (Everything was done as Joshua had given orders to the people.) Seven priests, carrying seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of Yahweh, moved forward blowing their trumpets; the ark of the covenant of Yahwehcame behind them,	8 Logo que Josué acabou de falar, os sete sacerdotes, levando as sete trombetas, retumbantes, puseram-se em marcha diante do Senhor, tocando os seus instrumentos; e a arca da aliança do Senhor os seguiu.
9 the vanguard marched ahead of the priests, who blew their trumpets, the rearguard fol owed behind theark; the men marched, the trumpets sounded.	9 Marcharam os guerreiros diante dos sacerdotes que tocavam a trombeta, e à retaguarda seguia a arca; e durante toda a marcha ouvia-se o retinir das trombetas.
10 Joshua had given the people the fol owing orders, 'Do not raise a war cry, do not let your voice be heard (not a word must pass your lips), until the day when I say, "Raise the war cry." That is when you mustraise the war cry.'	10 Ora, Josué havia dado essa ordem ao povo: não griteis, nem façais ouvir a vossa voz, nem saia de vossa boca palavra alguma, até o dia em que eu vos disser: Gritai! Então clamareis com força.
11 He made the ark go round the city (going round it once), then they went back to camp, where theyspent the night.	11 A arca do Senhor deu uma volta à cidade, e retornaram ao acampamento para ali passar a noite.
12 Joshua got up early, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh.	12 Josué levantou-se muito cedo e os sacerdotes levaram a arca do Senhor.
13 Carrying the seven ram's-horn trumpets, the seven priests walked ahead of the ark of Yahweh,blowing their trumpets as they went, while the vanguard marched ahead of them and the rearguard behind theark of Yahweh, and the march went on to the sound of the trumpet.	13 Os sete sacerdotes, levando as sete trombetas retumbantes, marchavam diante da arca do Senhor, tocando a trombeta durante a marcha. Os guerreiros precediam-nos, e à retaguarda seguia a arca do Senhor. E ouvia-se o retinir da trombeta durante a marcha.
14 They marched once round the city (on the second day) and went back to camp; and so on for six days.	14 Deram volta à cidade uma vez, no segundo dia, e voltaram ao acampamento. O mesmo fizeram durante seis dias.
15 On the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched (in the same manner) round the city seventimes. (This was the only day when they marched round the city seven times.)	15 Mas, ao sétimo dia, levantando-se de madrugada, deram volta à cidade sete vezes, como nos dias precedentes: esse foi o único dia em que fizeram sete vezes a volta.
16 At the seventh time, the priests blew their trumpets and Joshua said to the people, 'Raise the war cry,for Yahweh has given you the city!	16 Quando os sacerdotes tocaram as trombetas na sétima volta, Josué disse ao povo: Gritai, porque o Senhor vos entregou a cidade.
17 'The city and everyone in it must be devoted to Yahweh under the curse of destruction; the life ofRahab the prostitute alone must be spared, with al those with her in her house, since she hid the messengerswe sent.	17 A cidade será votada ao Senhor por interdito, como tudo o que nela se encontra; exceção feita somente a Raab, a prostituta, que terá a sua vida salva com todos os que se encontrarem em sua casa, porque ocultou os espiões que tínhamos enviado.
18 But beware of the curse of destruction, yourselves, for fear that, moved by greed, you take somethinglying under the curse; that would put the camp of Israel under the same curse and bring disaster on it.	18 Mas guardai-vos {de tocar} no que é votado ao interdito. Se tomardes algo do que foi anatematizado, atraireis o interdito sobre o acampamento de Israel, o que seria uma catástrofe.
19 All the silver and all the gold, everything made of bronze or iron, wil be consecrated to Yahweh andput in his treasury.'	19 Toda a prata, todo o ouro e todos os objetos de bronze e de ferro serão consagrados ao Senhor e farão parte do seu tesouro.
20 The people raised the war cry, the trumpets sounded. When the people heard the sound of thetrumpet, they raised a mighty war cry and the wal col apsed then and there. At once the people stormed the city,each man going straight forward; and they captured the city.	20 O povo clamou e os sacerdotes tocaram as trombetas. E logo que o povo ouviu o som das trombetas, levantou um grande clamor. A muralha desabou. A multidão subiu à cidade, sem nada diante de si.
21 They enforced the curse of destruction on everyone in the city: men and women, young and old,including the oxen, the sheep and the donkeys, slaughtering them all.	21 Tomaram a cidade e votaram-na ao interdito, passando a fio de espada tudo o que nela se encontrava, homens, mulheres, crianças, velhos e até mesmo os bois, as ovelhas e os jumentos.
22 Joshua said to the two men who had reconnoitred the country, 'Go into the prostitute's house, andbring the woman out with al who belong to her, as you swore to her that you would.'	22 Josué disse então aos dois homens que tinham explorado a terra: Entrai na casa da prostituta e fazei-a sair de lá com tudo o que lhe pertence.
23 The young men who had been spies went and brought Rahab out, with her father and mother andbrothers and al who belonged to her. They brought out all her clansmen too, and put them in a place of safetyoutside the camp of Israel.	23 Os espiões entraram na casa e fizeram sair Raab, seu pai, sua mãe, seus irmãos e tudo o que lhe pertencia, toda a sua parentela, e puseram-nos em segurança fora do acampamento de Israel.
24 They burned the city and everything inside it, except the silver, the gold and the things of bronze andiron; these they put into the treasury of Yahweh's house.	24 Queimaram a cidade com tudo o que ela continha, exceto prata, ouro e todos os objetos de bronze e de ferro que foram recolhidos aos tesouros da casa do Senhor.
25 But Rahab the prostitute, her father's family and al who belonged to her, these Joshua spared. She isstill living in Israel even today, for having hidden the messengers whom Joshua sent to reconnoitre Jericho.	25 Josué conservou a vida de Raab, a prostituta, bem como a da família de seu pai e a de todos os seus, de sorte que ela habitou no meio de Israel até este dia, porque ela havia ocultado os mensageiros enviados a explorar Jericó.
26 At that time Joshua made them take this oath before Yahweh: Accursed before Yahweh be the manwho rises up and rebuilds this city (Jericho)! On his first-born wil he lay its foundations, on his youngest son setup its gates!	26 Então proferiu Josué este juramento: Maldito seja diante do Senhor quem tentar reconstruir esta cidade de Jericó! Será ao preço do seu primogênito que lhe lançará os primeiros fundamentos, e será à custa do último de seus filhos, que lhe porá as portas!
27 So Yahweh was with Joshua, whose fame spread throughout the country.	27 O Senhor estava com Josué, e o seu renome divulgou-se por toda a terra.
