NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Now, Jericho had shut and barricaded its gates (against the Israelites): no one came out and no onewent in.	1 - Gerico era chiusa e fortificata per timore dei figli d'Israele e nessuno ardiva uscirne o entrare.
2 Yahweh then said to Joshua, 'Look, I am putting Jericho, its picked troops and its king, at your mercy.	2 Il Signore disse a Giosuè: «Ecco, io ti ho dato nelle mani Gerico, il suo re e tutti i suoi combattenti.
3 Al you warriors must march round the city (go right round the city once, doing the same on sixsuccessive days.	3 Tutti quanti siete combattenti fate il giro intorno alla città una volta al giorno. Fate così per sei giorni,
4 Seven priests must carry seven ram's-horn trumpets in front of the ark. On the seventh day, you wil goseven times round the city and the priests wil blow their trumpets).	4 ed al settimo giorno i sacerdoti prenderanno sette trombe, di quelle che si usano pel giubileo, e precederanno l'arca dell'alleanza; voi farete per sette volte il giro della città, mentre i sacerdoti soneranno le trombe.
5 When the ram's horn sounds (when you hear the sound of the trumpet), the entire people must utter amighty war cry and the city wall wil col apse then and there; the people wil then go into the assault, each manstraight ahead.'	5 Quando il suono della tromba s'innalzerà più forte e più squillante e rimbomberà alle vostre orecchie, tutto il popolo proromperà in grida altissime; le mura della città crolleranno dalle fondamenta e ciascuno entrerà dalla parte che gli sarà dirimpetto».
6 Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and said to them, 'Take up the ark of the covenant, and letseven priests carry seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of the ark of Yahweh.'	6 Allora Giosuè, figlio di Nun, chiamati i sacerdoti, disse loro: «Prendete l'arca dell'alleanza e sette altri sacerdoti portino le sette trombe dei giubilei e precedano l'arca del Signore».
7 To the people he then said, 'Forward! March round the city, and let the vanguard march ahead of theark of Yahweh!'	7 Al popolo poi disse: «Andate e fate il giro della città, precedendo armati l'arca del Signore».
8 (Everything was done as Joshua had given orders to the people.) Seven priests, carrying seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of Yahweh, moved forward blowing their trumpets; the ark of the covenant of Yahwehcame behind them,	8 Quando Giosuè ebbe finito di parlare al popolo, i sette sacerdoti diedero fiato alle trombe movendo dinanzi all'arca del Signore;
9 the vanguard marched ahead of the priests, who blew their trumpets, the rearguard fol owed behind theark; the men marched, the trumpets sounded.	9 e mentre tutto l'esercito armato precedeva, il resto della turba veniva dietro all'arca, e tutto rimbombava del suono delle trombe.
10 Joshua had given the people the fol owing orders, 'Do not raise a war cry, do not let your voice be heard (not a word must pass your lips), until the day when I say, "Raise the war cry." That is when you mustraise the war cry.'	10 Giosuè aveva poi comandato al popolo: «Non gridate, non fate udire la vostra voce e non pronunciate parola alcuna fino al giorno ch'io vi dirò: - Gridate e alzate la voce -».
11 He made the ark go round the city (going round it once), then they went back to camp, where theyspent the night.	11 L'arca del Signore fece dunque il giro della città una volta al giorno e ritornando poscia all'accampamento ivi rimase.
12 Joshua got up early, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh.	12 Giosuè adunque si levò notte tempo; e i sacerdoti presero l'arca del Signore
13 Carrying the seven ram's-horn trumpets, the seven priests walked ahead of the ark of Yahweh,blowing their trumpets as they went, while the vanguard marched ahead of them and the rearguard behind theark of Yahweh, and the march went on to the sound of the trumpet.	13 e sette di loro le sette trombe, delle quali si fa uso nel giubileo, e precedettero l'arca del Signore camminando e sonando, mentre il popolo armato andava avanti e il rimanente della turba seguiva l'arca e dava fiato alle trombe.
14 They marched once round the city (on the second day) and went back to camp; and so on for six days.	14 Il secondo giorno fecero il giro della città una volta e ritornarono all'accampamento. Così fecero per sei giorni.
15 On the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched (in the same manner) round the city seventimes. (This was the only day when they marched round the city seven times.)	15 Il settimo giorno, levatisi di buon mattino, fecero sette volte il giro della città, come era stato comandato,
16 At the seventh time, the priests blew their trumpets and Joshua said to the people, 'Raise the war cry,for Yahweh has given you the city!	16 e quando al settimo giro i sacerdoti ebbero sonato le trombe, Giosuè disse a tutto Israele: «Mettetevi a gridare, perchè il Signore vi ha dato nelle mani la città.
17 'The city and everyone in it must be devoted to Yahweh under the curse of destruction; the life ofRahab the prostitute alone must be spared, with al those with her in her house, since she hid the messengerswe sent.	17 Questa città poi con tutto quel che contiene sia votata al Signore; solo avrà salva la vita Raab, la meretrice, con tutti coloro che stanno in casa sua, perchè essa nascose gli esploratori che avevamo mandato.
18 But beware of the curse of destruction, yourselves, for fear that, moved by greed, you take somethinglying under the curse; that would put the camp of Israel under the same curse and bring disaster on it.	18 Voi però guardatevi bene dal toccare qualsiasi cosa che vi è stata proibita, affinchè non vi facciate rei di prevaricazione e tutto l'accampamento d'Israele ne sia colpevole e venga messo in scompiglio.
19 All the silver and all the gold, everything made of bronze or iron, wil be consecrated to Yahweh andput in his treasury.'	19 Tutto l'oro poi, l'argento e gli oggetti di bronzo e di ferro saranno consacrati al Signore e riposti nei suoi tesori».
20 The people raised the war cry, the trumpets sounded. When the people heard the sound of thetrumpet, they raised a mighty war cry and the wal col apsed then and there. At once the people stormed the city,each man going straight forward; and they captured the city.	20 Tutto il popolo dunque alzò la voce e quando le trombe ebbero squillato e il suono giunse alle orecchie di tutta la moltitudine, le mura ad un tratto crollarono e ciascuno penetrò dalla parte che gli stava dirimpetto e la città fu presa
21 They enforced the curse of destruction on everyone in the city: men and women, young and old,including the oxen, the sheep and the donkeys, slaughtering them all.	21 e furono uccisi tutti coloro che vi si trovavano, uomini, donne, fanciulli e vecchi. Gli stessi buoi e le pecore e gli asini furono passati a fil di spada.
22 Joshua said to the two men who had reconnoitred the country, 'Go into the prostitute's house, andbring the woman out with al who belong to her, as you swore to her that you would.'	22 Ai due uomini poi, che avevano esplorato il paese, Giosuè comandò: «Entrate in casa della donna meretrice e conducetela fuori con tutto ciò che le appartiene, come con giuramento le prometteste di fare».
23 The young men who had been spies went and brought Rahab out, with her father and mother andbrothers and al who belonged to her. They brought out all her clansmen too, and put them in a place of safetyoutside the camp of Israel.	23 Quei due esploratori entrarono nella casa, ne fecero uscire Raab, i suoi genitori, i fratelli, tutto quello che le apparteneva e la sua parentela e li fecero stare fuori dell'accampamento d'Israele.
24 They burned the city and everything inside it, except the silver, the gold and the things of bronze andiron; these they put into the treasury of Yahweh's house.	24 La città invece e tutte le cose che conteneva furono abbruciate, mentre l'oro, l'argento e gli oggetti di bronzo e di ferro vennero consacrati al Signore e posti nel suo erario.
25 But Rahab the prostitute, her father's family and al who belonged to her, these Joshua spared. She isstill living in Israel even today, for having hidden the messengers whom Joshua sent to reconnoitre Jericho.	25 Ma Raab la meretrice e la famiglia di suo padre e tutto ciò che aveva fu da Giosuè preservato ed essi abitarono in mezzo ad Israele fino ad oggi, perchè essa aveva nascosti i messi mandati [da Giosuè] ad esplorare la città di Gerico. In tale occasione Giosuè pronunciò questa imprecazione:-
26 At that time Joshua made them take this oath before Yahweh: Accursed before Yahweh be the manwho rises up and rebuilds this city (Jericho)! On his first-born wil he lay its foundations, on his youngest son setup its gates!	26 «Maledetto al cospetto del Signore chi farà risorgere e riedificare la città di Gerico. Egli ne getterà le fondamenta a prezzo della vita del suo primogenito e ne collocherà le porte colla morte dell'ultimo dei suoi figli».
27 So Yahweh was with Joshua, whose fame spread throughout the country.	27 Il Signore fu così con Giosuè e la fama di lui si sparse per tutto il paese.
