Joshua 6

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Now, Jericho had shut and barricaded its gates (against the Israelites): no one came out and no onewent in.	1 Jericó estaba herméticamente cerrada por temor a los israelitas: nadie salía ni entraba.
2 Yahweh then said to Joshua, 'Look, I am putting Jericho, its picked troops and its king, at your mercy.	2 Entonces el Señor dijo a Josué: «Yo he puesto en tus manos a Jericó y a su rey.
3 Al you warriors must march round the city (go right round the city once, doing the same on sixsuccessive days.	3 Por eso ustedes, todos los hombres de la guerra, darán una sola vuelta alrededor de la ciudad, formando un círculo en torno a ella. Así lo harán durante seis días.
4 Seven priests must carry seven ram's-horn trumpets in front of the ark. On the seventh day, you wil goseven times round the city and the priests wil blow their trumpets).	4 Además, siete sacerdotes irán delante del Arca llevando siete trompetas de cuerno. El séptimo día, en cambio, ustedes darán siete vueltas alrededor de la ciudad, y los sacerdotes harán sonar las trompetas.
5 When the ram's horn sounds (when you hear the sound of the trumpet), the entire people must utter amighty war cry and the city wall wil col apse then and there; the people wil then go into the assault, each manstraight ahead.'	5 A la señal dada con el cuerno, cuando ustedes oigan el sonido de las trompetas, todo el pueblo prorrumpirá en fuertes gritos de guerra. Entonces los muros de la ciudad caerán sobre sí mismos, y el pueblo se lanzará al asalto, cada uno hacia lo que tenga adelante».
6 Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and said to them, 'Take up the ark of the covenant, and letseven priests carry seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of the ark of Yahweh.'	6 Josué, hijo de Nun, convocó a los sacerdotes y les dijo: «Levanten el Arca de la Alianza, y que siete sacerdotes lleven siete trompetas de cuerno delante del Arca del Señor».
7 To the people he then said, 'Forward! March round the city, and let the vanguard march ahead of theark of Yahweh!'	7 Después dijo al pueblo: «Vayan adelante y den la vuelta alrededor de la ciudad; que los guerreros avancen delante del Arca del Señor».
8 (Everything was done as Joshua had given orders to the people.) Seven priests, carrying seven ram's-horn trumpets ahead of Yahweh, moved forward blowing their trumpets; the ark of the covenant of Yahwehcame behind them,	8 En seguida se hizo lo que Josué había dicho al pueblo: los siete sacerdotes que llevaban las siete trompetas de cuerno delante del Señor, avanzaron tocando las trompetas, mientras el Arca de la Alianza del Señor iba detrás de ellos.
9 the vanguard marched ahead of the priests, who blew their trumpets, the rearguard fol owed behind theark; the men marched, the trumpets sounded.	9 Los guerreros, por su parte, marchaban delante de los sacerdotes que tocaban las trompetas, mientras que la retaguardia iba detrás del Arca. Y en ningún momento se dejó de tocar las trompetas.
10 Joshua had given the people the fol owing orders, 'Do not raise a war cry, do not let your voice be heard (not a word must pass your lips), until the day when I say, "Raise the war cry." That is when you mustraise the war cry.'	10 Pero Josué dio esta orden al pueblo: «No lancen ningún grito de guerra ni dejen oír sus voces; que no salga de la boca de ustedes ninguna palabra, hasta que yo les diga: «¡Griten!». Sólo entonces gritarán».
11 He made the ark go round the city (going round it once), then they went back to camp, where theyspent the night.	11 Así hizo que el Arca del Señor diera una vuelta alrededor de la ciudad, formando un círculo en torno a ella. Luego volvieron otra vez al campamento, y allí pasaron la noche.
12 Joshua got up early, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh.	12 A la mañana siguiente, Josué se levantó de madrugada y los sacerdotes tomaron el Arca del Señor.
13 Carrying the seven ram's-horn trumpets, the seven priests walked ahead of the ark of Yahweh,blowing their trumpets as they went, while the vanguard marched ahead of them and the rearguard behind theark of Yahweh, and the march went on to the sound of the trumpet.	13 Los siete sacerdotes que llevaban las siete trompetas de cuerno delante del Arca del Señor, avanzaban sin dejar de tocar las trompetas; los guerreros marchaban delante de ellos, y la retaguardia iba detrás del Arca del Señor. En ningún momento se dejó de tocar las trompetas.
14 They marched once round the city (on the second day) and went back to camp; and so on for six days.	14 Así dieron la vuelta alrededor de la ciudad el segundo día, y después regresaron al campamento. Esto mismo se hizo durante seis días.
15 On the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched (in the same manner) round the city seventimes. (This was the only day when they marched round the city seven times.)	15 El séptimo día se levantaron al despuntar el alba y dieron siete vueltas alrededor de la ciudad, de la manera acostumbrada: sólo ese día dieron siete vueltas alrededor de la ciudad.
16 At the seventh time, the priests blew their trumpets and Joshua said to the people, 'Raise the war cry,for Yahweh has given you the city!	16 Al dar la séptima vuelta, los sacerdotes tocaron con más fuerza las trompetas, y Josué dijo al pueblo: «Lancen el grito de guerra, porque el Señor les entrega la ciudad.
17 'The city and everyone in it must be devoted to Yahweh under the curse of destruction; the life ofRahab the prostitute alone must be spared, with al those with her in her house, since she hid the messengerswe sent.	17 Ustedes consagrarán al Señor la ciudad con todo lo que hay en ella, exterminándola por completo. Quedarán con vida solamente Rajab, la prostituta, y todos los que estén con ella en su casa, porque ella ocultó a los emisarios que nosotros habíamos enviado.
18 But beware of the curse of destruction, yourselves, for fear that, moved by greed, you take somethinglying under the curse; that would put the camp of Israel under the same curse and bring disaster on it.	18 En cuanto a ustedes, tengan mucho cuidado con lo que está consagrado al exterminio, no sea que, llevados por la codicia, se adueñen de alguna cosa prohibida. Porque entonces pondrían en entredicho al campamento de Israel y le atraerían una desgracia.
19 All the silver and all the gold, everything made of bronze or iron, wil be consecrated to Yahweh andput in his treasury.'	19 Todo el oro, la plata y los objetos de bronce y de hierro serán consagrados al Señor y pasarán a formar parte de su tesoro».
20 The people raised the war cry, the trumpets sounded. When the people heard the sound of thetrumpet, they raised a mighty war cry and the wal col apsed then and there. At once the people stormed the city,each man going straight forward; and they captured the city.	20 Entonces el pueblo lanzó un fuerte grito y se tocaron las trompetas, el pueblo prorrumpió en un griterío ensordecedor, y el muro se desplomó sobre sí mismo. En seguida el pueblo acometió contra la ciudad, cada uno contra lo que tenía adelante, y la tomaron.
21 They enforced the curse of destruction on everyone in the city: men and women, young and old,including the oxen, the sheep and the donkeys, slaughtering them all.	21 Luego consagraron al exterminio todo lo que había en ella, pasando al filo de la espada a hombres y mujeres, niños y ancianos, vacas, ovejas y asnos.
22 Joshua said to the two men who had reconnoitred the country, 'Go into the prostitute's house, andbring the woman out with al who belong to her, as you swore to her that you would.'	22 Josué dijo a los dos hombres que habían explorado el país: «Entren en la casa de la prostituta y hagan salir a esa mujer con todo lo que le pertenece, como se lo han jurado».
23 The young men who had been spies went and brought Rahab out, with her father and mother andbrothers and al who belonged to her. They brought out all her clansmen too, and put them in a place of safetyoutside the camp of Israel.	23 Aquellos jóvenes espías fueron e hicieron salir a Rajab, a su padre, a su madre, a sus hermanos y todo lo que le pertenecía. También hicieron salir a sus otros parientes, y los instalaron fuera del campamento de Israel.
24 They burned the city and everything inside it, except the silver, the gold and the things of bronze andiron; these they put into the treasury of Yahweh's house.	24 Después incendiaron la ciudad y todo lo que había en ella, salvando únicamente la plata, el oro y los objetos de bronce y de hierro, que fueron depositados en el tesoro de la Casa del Señor.
25 But Rahab the prostitute, her father's family and al who belonged to her, these Joshua spared. She isstill living in Israel even today, for having hidden the messengers whom Joshua sent to reconnoitre Jericho.	25 Josué dejó con vida a Rajab, la prostituta, a su familia y a todo lo que le pertenecía, y ella habitó en medio de Israel hasta el día de hoy, por haber ocultado a los emisarios que Josué había enviado para explorar Jericó.
26 At that time Joshua made them take this oath before Yahweh: Accursed before Yahweh be the manwho rises up and rebuilds this city (Jericho)! On his first-born wil he lay its foundations, on his youngest son setup its gates!	26 En aquel tiempo Josué hizo pronunciar el siguiente juramento delante del Señor: «¡Maldito el hombre que intente reconstruir esta ciudad de Jericó! ¡Pondrá los cimientos sobre su primogénito, y colocará las puertas sobre su hijo menor!»
27 So Yahweh was with Joshua, whose fame spread throughout the country.	27 El Señor acompaño a Josué, y su fama se extendió por toda la tierra.
