Ephesians 2

1 And you were dead, through the crimes and the sins	1 - E voi pure ha fatto rivivere, che eravate morti per i vostri falli e i vostri peccati,
2 which used to make up your way of life when you were living by the principles of this world, obeying theruler who dominates the air, the spirit who is at work in those who rebel.	2 nei quali una volta vi siete abbandonati secondo l'andazzo di questo mondo, secondo il principe delle podestà dell'aria, quello spirito che ora agisce tra i figli della incredulità.
3 We too were al among them once, living only by our natural inclinations, obeying the demands ofhuman self-indulgence and our own whim; our nature made us no less liable to God's retribution than the rest ofthe world.	3 Tra questi ci siamo aggirati anche noi tutti, nelle cupidigie della nostra carne, seguendo i capricci della carne e del pensiero, ed eravamo per natura figli d'ira come gli altri.
4 But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love with which he loved us,	4 E Iddio, ricco di misericordia, per il grande amore che ci portava
5 even when we were dead in our sins, brought us to life with Christ -- it is through grace that you havebeen saved-	5 pur essendo noi morti per le nostre colpe, ci richiamò a vita in Cristo (per sua grazia siete stati salvati),
6 and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus.	6 in Cristo Gesù ci ha risuscitati e ci ha fatti sedere nei cieli,
7 This was to show for al ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, howextraordinarily rich he is in grace.	7 affinchè nelle età avvenire fosse fatta palese l'immensa ricchezza della sua grazia, nella benignità verso noi in Cristo Gesù.
8 Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by agift from God;	8 Sì, per grazia siete stati salvati mediante la fede; e ciò non è da voi ma è dono di Dio;
9 not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.	9 non dalle opere vostre, che nessuno abbia a gloriarsene.
10 We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has alreadydesignated to make up our way of life.	10 Noi siamo fattura di lui, creati in Cristo Gesù per opere buone, a cui ci preparò Iddio perchè le praticassimo.
11 Do not forget, then, that there was a time when you who were gentiles by physical descent, termed theuncircumcised by those who speak of themselves as the circumcised by reason of a physical operation,	11 Perciò ricordatevi che un tempo voi, pagani nella carne, voi detti gli incirconcisi da quelli che, circoncisi per operazione chirurgica nella carne, si chiamavan così,
12 do not forget, I say, that you were at that time separate from Christ and excluded from membership ofIsrael, aliens with no part in the covenants of the Promise, limited to this world, without hope and without God.	12 eravate in quel tempo all'infuori di Cristo, esclusi dalla cittadinanza d'Israele ed estranei ai patti della promessa, senza speranza e senza Dio nel mondo.
13 But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far off have been brought close, by the blood of Christ.	13 Ora invece in Cristo Gesù, voi che eravate lontani, siete diventati vicini nel sangue di Cristo.
14 For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one entity and broken down the barrierwhich used to keep them apart, by destroying in his own person the hostility,	14 Giacchè egli è la nostra pace; egli delle due cose ne ha fatta una sola, togliendo di mezzo il muro che li separava, cioè l'inimicizia, e nella sua carne
15 that is, the Law of commandments with its decrees. His purpose in this was, by restoring peace, tocreate a single New Man out of the two of them,	15 annullò co' suoi precetti la Legge delle prescrizioni [giudaiche], al fine di ridurre in se stesso, artefice di pace, i due in unico uomo nuovo,
16 and through the cross, to reconcile them both to God in one Body; in his own person he kil ed thehostility.	16 e riconciliarli entrambi in un corpo unico a Dio per mezzo della croce, uccidendo in sè ogni inimicizia.
17 He came to bring the good news of peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.	17 E venne a recare il buon annunzio di pace a voi che eravate lungi, e pace a questi che eran vicini;
18 Through him, then, we both in the one Spirit have free access to the Father.	18 e per lui noi abbiamo accesso entrambi in unico Spirito al Padre.
19 So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are fel ow-citizens with the holy people of God andpart of God's household.	19 Perciò dunque non siete più ospiti e forestieri, ma siete concittadini dei santi e della famiglia di Dio;
20 You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is thecornerstone.	20 edifizio eretto sul fondamento degli apostoli e dei profeti, essendone pietra angolare lo stesso Cristo Gesù;
21 Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord;	21 su cui tutto l'edificio ben costruito s'inalza a tempio santo nel Signore;
22 and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling-place of God in the Spirit.	22 e voi pure siete parte di quest'edificio, che ha da essere abitacolo di Dio nello Spirito.
