Ephesians 2

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 And you were dead, through the crimes and the sins	1 Ustedes estaban muertos a causa de las faltas y pecados
2 which used to make up your way of life when you were living by the principles of this world, obeying theruler who dominates the air, the spirit who is at work in those who rebel.	2 que cometían, cuando vivían conforme al criterio de este mundo, según el Príncipe que domina en el espacio, el mismo Espíritu que sigue actuando en aquellos que se rebelan.
3 We too were al among them once, living only by our natural inclinations, obeying the demands ofhuman self-indulgence and our own whim; our nature made us no less liable to God's retribution than the rest ofthe world.	3 Todos nosotros también nos comportábamos así en otro tiempo, viviendo conforme a nuestros deseos carnales y satisfaciendo nuestra concupiscencia y nuestras malas inclinaciones, de manera que por nuestra condición estábamos condenados a la ira, igual que los demás.
4 But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love with which he loved us,	4 Pero Dios, que es rico en misericordia, por el gran amor con que nos amó,
5 even when we were dead in our sins, brought us to life with Christ -- it is through grace that you havebeen saved-	5 precisamente cuando estábamos muertos a causa de nuestros pecados, nos hizo revivir con Cristo –¡ustedes han sido salvados gratuitamente!–
6 and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus.	6 y con Cristo Jesús nos resucitó y nos hizo reinar con él en el cielo.
7 This was to show for al ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, howextraordinarily rich he is in grace.	7 Así, Dios ha querido demostrar a los tiempos futuros la inmensa riqueza de su gracia por el amor que nos tiene en Cristo Jesús.
8 Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by agift from God;	8 Porque ustedes han sido salvados por su gracia, mediante la fe. Esto no proviene de ustedes, sino que es un don de Dios;
9 not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.	9 y no es el resultado de las obras, para que nadie se gloríe.
10 We are God's work of art, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God has alreadydesignated to make up our way of life.	10 Nosotros somos creación suya: fuimos creados en Cristo Jesús, a fin de realizar aquellas buenas obras, que Dios preparó de antemano para que las practicáramos.
11 Do not forget, then, that there was a time when you who were gentiles by physical descent, termed theuncircumcised by those who speak of themselves as the circumcised by reason of a physical operation,	11 Por eso, recuerden lo que ustedes eran antes: paganos de nacimiento, llamados «incircuncisos» por aquellos que se dicen «circuncisos», en virtud de un corte practicado en la carne.
12 do not forget, I say, that you were at that time separate from Christ and excluded from membership ofIsrael, aliens with no part in the covenants of the Promise, limited to this world, without hope and without God.	12 Entonces ustedes no tenían a Cristo y estaban excluidos de la comunidad de Israel, ajenos a las alianzas de la promesa, sin esperanza y sin Dios en el mundo.
13 But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far off have been brought close, by the blood of Christ.	13 Pero ahora, en Cristo Jesús, ustedes, los que antes estaban lejos, han sido acercados por la sangre de Cristo.
14 For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one entity and broken down the barrierwhich used to keep them apart, by destroying in his own person the hostility,	14 Porque Cristo es nuestra paz; él ha unido a los dos pueblos en uno solo, derribando el muro de enemistad que los separaba,
15 that is, the Law of commandments with its decrees. His purpose in this was, by restoring peace, tocreate a single New Man out of the two of them,	15 y aboliendo en su propia carne la Ley con sus mandamientos y prescripciones. Así creó con los dos pueblos un solo Hombre nuevo en su propia persona, restableciendo la paz,
16 and through the cross, to reconcile them both to God in one Body; in his own person he kil ed thehostility.	16 y los reconcilió con Dios en un solo Cuerpo, por medio de la cruz, destruyendo la enemistad en su persona.
17 He came to bring the good news of peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.	17 Y él vino a proclamar la Buena Noticia de la paz, paz para ustedes, que estaban lejos, paz también para aquellos que estaban cerca.
18 Through him, then, we both in the one Spirit have free access to the Father.	18 Porque por medio de Cristo, todos sin distinción tenemos acceso al Padre, en un mismo Espíritu.
19 So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are fel ow-citizens with the holy people of God andpart of God's household.	19 Por lo tanto, ustedes ya no son extranjeros ni huéspedes, sino conciudadanos de los santos y miembros de la familia de Dios.
20 You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is thecornerstone.	20 Ustedes están edificados sobre los apóstoles y los profetas, que son los cimientos, mientras que la piedra angular es el mismo Jesucristo.
21 Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord;	21 En él, todo el edificio, bien trabado, va creciendo para constituir un templo santo en el Señor.
22 and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling-place of God in the Spirit.	22 En él, también ustedes son incorporados al edificio, para llegar a ser una morada de Dios en el Espíritu.
