2 Corinthians 2

1 I made up my mind, then, that my next visit to you would not be a painful one,	1 En mi interior tomé la decisión de no ir otra vez con tristeza donde vosotros.
2 for if I cause you distress I am causing distress to my only possible source of joy.	2 Porque si yo os entristezco ¿quién podría alegrarme sino el que se ha entristecido por mi causa?
3 Indeed, I wrote as I did precisely to spare myself distress when I visited you, from the very people whoshould have given me joy, in the conviction that for al of you my joy was yours too.	3 Y si os escribí aquello, fue para no entristecerme a mi ida, a causa de los mismos que deberían procurarme alegría, convencido respecto de todos vosotros de que mi alegría es la alegría de todos vosotros.
4 I wrote to you in agony of mind, not meaning to cause you distress but to show you how very much loveI have for you.	4 Efectivamente, os escribí en una gran aflicción y angustia de corazón, con muchas lágrimas, no para entristeceros, sino para que conocierais el amor desbordante que sobre todo a vosotros os tengo.
5 If anyone did cause distress, he caused it not to me, but -- not to exaggerate -- in some degree to al ofyou.	5 Pues si alguien ha causado tristeza, no es a mí quien se la ha causado; sino en cierto sentido - para no exagerar - a todos vosotros.
6 The punishment already imposed by the majority was quite enough for such a person;	6 Bastante es para ese tal el castigo infligido por la comunidad,
7 and now by contrast you should forgive and encourage him all the more, or he may be overwhelmed bythe extent of his distress.	7 por lo que es mejor, por el contrario, que le perdonéis y le animéis no sea que se vea ése hundido en una excesiva tristeza.
8 That is why I urge you to give your love towards him definite expression.	8 Os suplico, pues, que reavivéis la caridad para con él.
9 This was in fact my reason for writing, to test your quality and whether you are completely obedient.	9 Pues también os escribí con la intención de probaros y ver si vuestra obediencia era perfecta.
10 But if you forgive anybody, then I too forgive that person; and whatever I have forgiven, if there isanything I have forgiven, I have done it for your sake in Christ's presence,	10 Y a quien vosotros perdonéis, también yo le perdono. Pues lo que yo perdoné - si algo he perdonado - fue por vosotros en presencia de Cristo,
11 to avoid being outwitted by Satan, whose scheming we know only too well.	11 para que no seamos engañados por Satanás, pues no ignoramos sus propósitos.
12 When I came to Troas for the sake of the gospel of Christ and a door was opened for me there in theLord,	12 Llegué, pues, a Tróada para predicar el Evangelio de Cristo, y aun cuando se me había abierto una gran puerta en el Señor,
13 I had no relief from anxiety, not finding my brother Titus there, and I said goodbye to them and wenton to Macedonia.	13 mi espíritu no tuvo punto de reposo, pues no encontré a mi hermano Tito, y despidiéndome de ellos, salí para Macedonia.
14 But, thanks be to God who always gives us in Christ a part in his triumphal procession, and through usis spreading everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of himself.	14 ¡Gracias sean dadas a Dios, que nos lleva siempre en su triunfo, en Cristo, y por nuestro medio difunde en todas partes el olor de su conocimiento!
15 To God we are the fragrance of Christ, both among those who are being saved and among those whoare on the way to destruction;	15 Pues nosotros somos para Dios el buen olor de Cristo entre los que se salvan y entre los que se pierden:
16 for these last, the smel of death leading to death, but for the first, the smel of life leading to life. Whois equal to such a task?	16 para los unos, olor que de la muerte lleva a la muerte; para los otros, olor que de la vida lleva a la vida. Y ¿quién es capaz para esto?
17 At least we do not adulterate the word of God, as so many do, but it is in al purity, as envoys of Godand in God's presence, that we speak in Christ.	17 Ciertamente no somos nosotros como la mayoría que negocian con la Palabra de Dios. ¡No!, antes bien, con sinceridad y como de parte de Dios y delante de Dios hablamos en Cristo.
