1 Now about food which has been dedicated to false gods. We are wel aware that al of us haveknowledge; but while knowledge puffs up, love is what builds up.	1 Riguardo poi alle cose immolate agli idoli, noi sappiamo, che tutti abbiamo scienza. La scienza gonfia, ma la carità edifica.
2 Someone may think that he has ful knowledge of something and yet not know it as wel as he should;	2 Che se uno si tiene di saper qualche cosa, non ha per anco saputo, come bisogna sapere.
3 but someone who loves God is known by God.	3 Ma chi ama Dio, questi è da lui conosciuto.
4 On the subject of eating foods dedicated to false gods, we are wel aware that none of the false godsexists in reality and that there is no God other than the One.	4 Quanto adunque al mangiare delle cose immolate agli idoli, sappiamo, che l'idolo è un niente nel mondo, e non v'ha Dio, se non un solo.
5 Though there are so-cal ed gods, in the heavens or on earth -- and there are plenty of gods and plentyof lords-	5 Imperocché quantunque sianvi di quelli, che sono chiamati dii, o incielo, o in terra (dappoiché sono molti dii, e molti signori):
6 yet for us there is only one God, the Father from whom al things come and for whom we exist, and oneLord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things come and through whom we exist.	6 Quanto a noi però un solo Dio, il Padre, da cui tutte le cose, e noi per esso: e un solo Signore Gesù Cristo, per cui tutte le cose, e noi per mezzo di lui.
7 However, not everybody has this knowledge. There are some in whose consciences false gods stillplay such a part that they take the food as though it had been dedicated to a god; then their conscience, beingvulnerable, is defiled,	7 Ma non è in tutti la scienza. Ma alcuni con in cuore tuttora l'idea dell'idolo, mangiano una cosa come immolata agli idoli: e la coscienza di essi essendo debole, resta contaminata.
8 But of course food cannot make us acceptable to God; we lose nothing by not eating it, we gain nothingby eating it.	8 Ma un cibo non ci rende commendabili presso Dio. Imperocché né se mangeremo, avrem qualche cosa di più: ne se non mangeremo, avrem qualche cosa di meno.
9 Only be careful that this freedom of yours does not in any way turn into an obstacle to trip those whoare vulnerable.	9 Ma badate, che per disgrazia questa vostra licenza non divenga inciampo pe' deboli.
10 Suppose someone sees you, who have the knowledge, sitting eating in the temple of some false god,do you not think that his conscience, vulnerable as it is, may be encouraged to eat foods dedicated to falsegods?	10 Imperocché se uno vegga colui, che ha scienza, stare a mensa nel luogo degli idoli: non sarà ella la coscienza di lui, che è debole, mossa a mangiare delle cose immolate agli idoli?
11 And then it would be through your knowledge that this brother for whom Christ died, vulnerable as heis, has been lost.	11 E per la tua scienza perirà il debole fratello, per cui Cristo è morto?
12 So, sinning against your brothers and wounding their vulnerable consciences, you would be sinningagainst Christ.	12 E in tal guisa peccando voi contro i fratelli, e offendendo la loro debole coscienza, contro Cristo peccate.
13 That is why, if food can be the cause of a brother's downfal , I wil never eat meat any more, ratherthan cause my brother's downfal .	13 Per la qual cosa se un cibò serve di scandalo al mio fratello: non mangerò carne in eterno per non dare scandalo al mio fratello.
