1 Corinthians 8

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Now about food which has been dedicated to false gods. We are wel aware that al of us haveknowledge; but while knowledge puffs up, love is what builds up.	1 Con respecto a la carne sacrificada a los ídolos, todos tenemos el conocimiento debido, ya lo sabemos, pero el conocimiento llena de orgullo, mientras que el amor edifica.
2 Someone may think that he has ful knowledge of something and yet not know it as wel as he should;	2 Si alguien se imagina que conoce algo, no ha llegado todavía a conocer como es debido;
3 but someone who loves God is known by God.	3 en cambio, el que ama a Dios es reconocido por Dios.
4 On the subject of eating foods dedicated to false gods, we are wel aware that none of the false godsexists in reality and that there is no God other than the One.	4 En cuanto a comer la carne sacrificada a los ídolos, sabemos bien que los ídolos no son nada y que no hay más que un solo Dios.
5 Though there are so-cal ed gods, in the heavens or on earth -- and there are plenty of gods and plentyof lords-	5 Es verdad que algunos son considerados dioses, sea en el cielo o en la tierra: de hecho, hay una cantidad de dioses y una cantidad de señores.
6 yet for us there is only one God, the Father from whom al things come and for whom we exist, and oneLord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things come and through whom we exist.	6 Pero para nosotros, no hay más que un solo Dios, el Padre, de quien todo procede y a quien nosotros estamos destinados, y un solo Señor, Jesucristo, por quien todo existe y por quien nosotros existimos.
7 However, not everybody has this knowledge. There are some in whose consciences false gods stillplay such a part that they take the food as though it had been dedicated to a god; then their conscience, beingvulnerable, is defiled,	7 Sin embargo, no todos tienen este conocimiento. Algunos, habituados hasta hace poco a la idolatría, comen la carne sacrificada a los ídolos como si fuera sagrada, y su conciencia, que es débil, queda manchada.
8 But of course food cannot make us acceptable to God; we lose nothing by not eating it, we gain nothingby eating it.	8 Ciertamente, no es un alimento lo que no acerca a Dios: ni por dejar de comer somos menos, ni por comer somos más.
9 Only be careful that this freedom of yours does not in any way turn into an obstacle to trip those whoare vulnerable.	9 Pero tengan cuidado que el uso de esta libertad no sea ocasión de caída para el débil.
10 Suppose someone sees you, who have the knowledge, sitting eating in the temple of some false god,do you not think that his conscience, vulnerable as it is, may be encouraged to eat foods dedicated to falsegods?	10 Si alguien te ve a ti, que sabes cómo se debe obrar, sentado a la mesa en un templo pagano, ¿no se sentirá autorizado, a causa de la debilidad de su conciencia, a comer lo que ha sido sacrificado a los ídolos?
11 And then it would be through your knowledge that this brother for whom Christ died, vulnerable as heis, has been lost.	11 Y así, tú, que tienes el debido conocimiento, haces perecer al débil, ¡ese hermano por el que murió Cristo!
12 So, sinning against your brothers and wounding their vulnerable consciences, you would be sinningagainst Christ.	12 Pecando de esa manera contra sus hermanos e hiriendo su conciencia, que es débil, ustedes pecan contra Cristo.
13 That is why, if food can be the cause of a brother's downfal , I wil never eat meat any more, ratherthan cause my brother's downfal .	13 Por lo tanto, si un alimento es ocasión de caída para mi hermano, nunca probaré carne, a fin de evitar su caída.
