1 Corinthians 10

1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.	1 Não quero, pois, Irmãos, que ignoreis que nossos pais estiveram todos debaixo da nuvem, que todos passaram o mar,
2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;	2 todos foram baptizados em Moisés, na nuvem e no mar,
3 al ate the same spiritual food	3 todos comeram do mesmo alimento espiritual,
4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.	4 e todos beberam da mesma bebida espiritual (pois bebiam da pedra espiritual que os seguia, pedra que era Cristo).
5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.	5 Mas de muitos deles Deus não se agradou, pelo que foram prostrados no deserto.
6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;	6 Estas coisas foram figura do que nos diz respeito (se formos infiéis a Deus), para que não cobicemos coisas más, como eles cobiçaram.
7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.	7 Não vos torneis idólatras, como alguns deles, conforme está escrito: O povo sentou-se a comer e a beber e depois levantou-se para se divertir (Ex. 32, 6).
8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.	8 Não nos entreguemos à devassidão, como alguns deles se entregaram, e morreram num dia vinte e três mil.
9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.	9 Não tentemos o Senhor, como alguns deles o tentaram, e foram mortos pelas serpentes.
10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.	10 Não murmureis, como alguns deles murmuraram, e foram mortos pelo (Anjo), exterminador.
11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.	11 Ora todas estas coisas lhes aconteciam, em figura, e foram escritas para advertência de (todos) nós, para quem o fim dos séculos chegou.
12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.	12 Aquele, pois, que crê estar de pé (possuindo a graça de Deus), veja, não caia (no pecado).
13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.	13 Ainda não vos surpreendeu nenhuma tentação, que ultrapassasse a medida humana. Deus, que é fiel, não permitirá que sejais tentados além do que podem as vossas forças. Em caso de tentação, dar-vos-á os meios de lhe resistir.
14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.	14 Por isso, meus caríssimos, fugi da idolatria.
15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.	15 Falo como a pessoas sensatas: julgai vós mesmos o que eu digo.
16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?	16 Porventura o cálice de bênção, que benzemos, não é a comunhão do sangue de Cristo? E o pão, que partimos, não é a participação do corpo do Senhor?
17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.	17 Visto que há um só pão, nós, embora muitos, formamos um só corpo, nós todos que participamos do mesmo pão.
18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?	18 Considerai Israel, segundo a carne: os que comem das vitimas, porventura não têm parte no altar?
19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?	19 Mas que digo? Digo que o que foi sacrificado aos ídolos é alguma coisa? Ou que o ídolo é alguma coisa? (De modo nenhum),
20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.	20 antes digo que as coisas que os gentios sacrificam, as sacrificam aos demônios e não a Deus. Ora não quero que tenhais sociedade com os demônios. Não podeis beber o cálice do Senhor e o cálice dos demônios;
21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .	21 não podeis ser participantes da mesa do Senhor e da mesa dos demônios.
22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?	22 Queremos porventura provocar o Senhor à emulação? Acaso somos mais fortes do que ele? "Tudo é permitido" — mas nem tudo aproveita.
23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.	23 "Tudo é permitido" — mas nem tudo edifica.
24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.	24 Ninguém busque o bem próprio, mas o bem dos outros.
25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,	25 De tudo o que se vende na praça, comei sem perguntar nada por motivo de consciência,
26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.	26 porque do Senhor é a terra e tudo quanto há nela.
27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.	27 Se algum dos infiéis vos convida e quereis ir, comei de tudo o que vos é posto diante, não perguntando nada por motivo de consciência.
28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-	28 Todavia, se alguém disser: isto foi imolado aos ídolos — não o comais em atenção aquele que o advertiu e por causa da consciência;
29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?	29 da consciência, digo, não vossa, mas do outro. Por que motivo, com efeito, seria a minha liberdade julgada pela consciência alheia ?
30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?	30 Se eu como, dando graças, por que motivo dizem mal de mim, por uma coisa por que dou graças ?
31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.	31 Logo, ou comais, ou bebais, ou façais qualquer outra coisa, fazei tudo para glória de Deus.
32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,	32 Não sejais motivo de escândalo, nem para os Judeus, nem para os Gregos, nem para a Igreja de Deus,
33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.	33 como também eu em tudo procuro agradar a todos, não buscando o meu proveito, mas o do maior número, para que sejam salvos.
