1 From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle,	1 Paolo, servo di Gesù Cristo, chiamato apostolo, consacrato al vangelo di Dio --
2 set apart for the service of the gospel that God promised long ago through his prophets in the holyscriptures.	2 vangelo che egli aveva preannunciato per mezzo dei suoi profeti negli scritti sacri
3 This is the gospel concerning his Son who, in terms of human nature	3 riguardo al Figlio suo, nato dalla stirpe di Davide secondo la natura umana,
4 was born a descendant of David and who, in terms of the Spirit and of holiness, was designated Son ofGod in power by resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ, our Lord,	4 costituito Figlio di Dio con potenza secondo lo Spirito di santificazione mediante la risurrezione dai morti: Gesù Cristo Signore nostro;
5 through whom we have received grace and our apostolic mission of winning the obedience of faithamong all the nations for the honour of his name.	5 per mezzo di lui abbiamo ricevuto la grazia e la missione apostolica per portare all'obbedienza della fede tutti i gentili a gloria del suo nome,
6 You are among these, and by his cal you belong to Jesus Christ.	6 tra i quali siete anche voi, chiamati da Gesù Cristo --
7 To you al , God's beloved in Rome, cal ed to be his holy people. Grace and peace from God our Fatherand the Lord Jesus Christ.	7 a tutti coloro che si trovano in Roma, amati da Dio, chiamati santi: grazia a voi e pace da parte di Dio, Padre nostro, e da parte del Signore Gesù Cristo.
8 First I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for al of you because your faith is talked of al overthe world.	8 Prima di tutto ringrazio il mio Dio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo riguardo a tutti voi, perché la vostra fede è magnificata in tutto il mondo.
9 God, whom I serve with my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness that I continuallymention you in my prayers,	9 Mi è infatti testimone Dio, al quale presto culto nel mio spirito mediante l'annuncio del vangelo del Figlio suo, con quale costanza ininterrotta io vi ricordo
10 asking always that by some means I may at long last be enabled to visit you, if it is God's will.	10 ovunque nelle mie preghiere, chiedendo che finalmente mi si offra secondo il volere di Dio una bella occasione di venire da voi.
11 For I am longing to see you so that I can convey to you some spiritual gift that will be a lastingstrength,	11 Desidero infatti ardentemente vedervi, allo scopo di comunicarvi qualche dono spirituale per il vostro consolidamento
12 or rather that we may be strengthened together through our mutual faith, yours and mine.	12 o, meglio, per provare in mezzo a voi la gioia e l'impulso derivanti dalla fede comune, vostra e mia.
13 I want you to be quite certain too, brothers, that I have often planned to visit you -- though up to thepresent I have always been prevented -- in the hope that I might work as fruitfully among you as I have amongthe gentiles elsewhere.	13 Non voglio nascondervi, fratelli, che spesso mi proposi di venire da voi -- e fino ad ora ne sono stato impedito -- per raccogliere anche tra voi qualche frutto, come tra gli altri gentili.
14 I have an obligation to Greeks as wel as barbarians, to the educated as wel as the ignorant,	14 Sono in debito verso Greci e barbari, sapienti e ignoranti:
15 and hence the eagerness on my part to preach the gospel to you in Rome too.	15 cosicché, per parte mia, sono desideroso di annunciare il vangelo anche a voi che vi trovate in Roma.
16 For I see no reason to be ashamed of the gospel; it is God's power for the salvation of everyone whohas faith -- Jews first, but Greeks as well-	16 Infatti non mi vergogno del vangelo poiché esso è un'energia operante di Dio per apportare la salvezza a chiunque crede, giudeo anzitutto e greco.
17 for in it is revealed the saving justice of God: a justice based on faith and addressed to faith. As itsays in scripture: Anyone who is upright through faith will live.	17 Infatti la giustizia di Dio si rivela in esso da fede a fede, secondo quanto è stato scritto: Il giusto vivrà in forza della fede.
18 The retribution of God from heaven is being revealed against the ungodliness and injustice of humanbeings who in their injustice hold back the truth.	18 Difatti l'ira di Dio si manifesta dal cielo sopra ogni empietà e malvagità di quegli uomini che soffocano la verità nell'ingiustizia.
19 For what can be known about God is perfectly plain to them, since God has made it plain to them:	19 Poiché ciò che è noto di Dio è manifesto in loro;
20 ever since the creation of the world, the invisible existence of God and his everlasting power havebeen clearly seen by the mind's understanding of created things. And so these people have no excuse:	20 infatti, dopo la creazione del mondo Dio manifestò ad essi le sue proprietà invisibili, come la sua eterna potenza e la sua divinità, che si rendono visibili all'intelligenza mediante le opere da lui fatte. E così essi sono inescusabili,
21 they knew God and yet they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but their argumentsbecame futile and their uncomprehending minds were darkened.	21 poiché, avendo conosciuto Dio, non lo glorificarono come Dio né gli resero grazie, ma i loro ragionamenti divennero vuoti e la loro coscienza stolta si ottenebrò.
22 While they claimed to be wise, in fact they were growing so stupid	22 Ritenendosi sapienti, divennero sciocchi,
23 that they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an imitation, for the image of a mortal humanbeing, or of birds, or animals, or crawling things.	23 e scambiarono la gloria di Dio incorruttibile con le sembianze di uomo corruttibile, di volatili, di quadrupedi, di serpenti.
24 That is why God abandoned them in their inmost cravings to filthy practices of dishonouring their ownbodies-	24 Perciò Dio li ha lasciati in balìa dei desideri sfrenati dei loro cuori, fino all'immondezza che è consistita nel disonorare il loro corpo tra di loro;
25 because they exchanged God's truth for a lie and have worshipped and served the creature insteadof the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.	25 essi che scambiarono la verità di Dio con la menzogna e adorarono e prestarono un culto alle creature invece che al Creatore, che è benedetto nei secoli: amen!
26 That is why God abandoned them to degrading passions:	26 Per questo Dio li ha dati in balìa di passioni ignominiose: le loro donne scambiarono il rapporto sessuale naturale con quello contro natura;
27 why their women have exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural practices; and the men, in asimilar fashion, too, giving up normal relations with women, are consumed with passion for each other, mendoing shameful things with men and receiving in themselves due reward for their perversion.	27 ugualmente gli uomini, lasciato il rapporto naturale con la donna, bruciarono di desiderio gli uni verso gli altri, compiendo turpitudini uomini con uomini, ricevendo in se stessi la ricompensa debita della loro aberrazione.
28 In other words, since they would not consent to acknowledge God, God abandoned them to theirunacceptable thoughts and indecent behaviour.	28 E siccome non stimarono saggio possedere la vera conoscenza di Dio, Dio li abbandonò in balìa di una mente insipiente, in modo da compiere ciò che non conviene,
29 And so now they are steeped in al sorts of injustice, rottenness, greed and malice; full of envy,murder, wrangling, treachery and spite,	29 ripieni di ogni genere di malvagità, cattiveria, cupidigia, malizia, invidia, omicidio, lite, frode, malignità, maldicenti in segreto,
30 libel ers, slanderers, enemies of God, rude, arrogant and boastful, enterprising in evil, rebellious toparents,	30 calunniatori, odiatori di Dio, insolenti, superbi, orgogliosi, ideatori di male, ribelli ai genitori,
31 without brains, honour, love or pity.	31 senza intelligenza, senza lealtà, senza amore, senza misericordia;
32 They are well aware of God's ordinance: that those who behave like this deserve to die -- yet they notonly do it, but even applaud others who do the same.	32 essi, conoscendo bene il decreto di Dio, per cui coloro che compiono tali azioni sono degni di morte, non solo le fanno, ma danno il loro consenso, approvando chi le compie.
